Tao kept his gaze forward, affecting a nonchalant air as they walked. He found the vampire's disappointment almost... endearing. So eager to please, he thought, the corner of his mouth twitching with amusement. It was rather like watching a puppy try to earn a treat.
He caught the way Kai inhaled, drawing in the scent of Tao’s hoodie like a lifeline. It was a small, almost involuntary gesture, but it told Tao everything he needed to know. The vampire was hooked.
Tao didn't bother replying to the question about walks in the woods. The mere thought of a leisurely stroll with a vampire, even one as seemingly harmless as Kai, was absurd.
"It's not what I do now that's the problem, darling," Tao drawled, his tone light, "it's what I used to do. Let's just say I've made a few enemies over the years, and they tend to hold a grudge."
"Can I hold your hand?"
Tao stopped walking, turning to face the vampire with a raised eyebrow. "I beg your pardon?"
Still playing the innocent, is he? Tao's lips twitched, fighting back a smile. He'd seen this act before—the wide-eyed vulnerability, the subtle tremor in the voice. It was almost convincing, if you didn’t know any better.
"Darling," Tao drawled, his voice dripping with mock sympathy, "you seem to forget. I know you tore that poor sod limb from limb not an hour ago. I rather doubt a little stroll in the dark is going to frighten you."
He paused, letting the words sink in before extending his hand, palm up, towards Kai. "But if you insist…" He told himself it was merely to keep the vampire from causing a scene, nothing more. Certainly not because he found Kai's antics oddly endearing.
Tumblr media
The alpha's eyes followed along with the other's movements, almost like a cat determining its newest prey. He didn't know why the other man seemed so disinterested or cold when they had just had such exhilirating experience together. Kai tucked his head down, only lifting the hoodie up a bit to sniff at it and enjoy more of the other man's scent. Well, even if they didn't end up having fun, it wasn't like he was going to give this back. It was his newest souvenir now.
Kai's expression melted into a soft, pleading face, stepping forward after Tao stepped back. "We can't go on walks in the woods together anymore? How come? You could bring your book and tea, and I'd just bring my happy, hungry self! It'd be cute; the woods are where we met, after all," he teased, enjoying the way they were playing with each other again.
"What sort of business do you do?" he asked curiously, tilting his head to the side. "If dead bodies laying around is bad for your business, then I could just leave it outside rival businesses instead? It's sure to help your business at least," Kai asked innocently. At least in this case, the vampire was being the most genuine in his request. It only made sense from a business perspective, so surely Tao wouldn't have any objections to that?
Padding after Tao once the man began walking away, the vampire chased up to walk by his side. "Can I hold your hand?" he asked with a grin, pacing his stride to match the other's. "I was the victim of such a scary and dangerous attack. I wouldn't feel safe walking home alone by myself," he hummed. He was eager to follow along after Tao; why stop having fun with the chase?

Tao fought the urge to roll his eyes at Kai's blatant flirtation. The vampire's words dripped with honey, but Tao knew better than to trust their sweetness. He'd encountered plenty of Alphas like Kai before - all charm on the surface, but selfish and demanding underneath.
Still, he couldn't deny it had been a long time since anyone had challenged him quite like this. Most Alphas took one look at him and assumed he'd be an easy conquest. Kai, at least, seemed to recognize there was more to Tao than met the eye.
Tao kept his expression neutral as he considered his next move. He could shut this down now, and make it clear he wasn't interested in whatever game Kai was playing. But a part of him, usually tightly controlled, was curious to see how far the vampire would push things.
"Fun?" Tao repeated, his tone dry. "I'm afraid my idea of fun is rather tame compared to yours. A good book, a cup of tea. Perhaps a nice walk in the woods." His lips quirked. "Though I suppose that last one might be off the table for you at the moment."
He took a step back, putting some distance between them. Kai's proximity was...distracting, in ways Tao wasn't entirely comfortable with. The vampire's scent lingered in his nostrils, a heady mix of blood and something uniquely Kai. It made his head spin.
"As for repayment," Tao continued, his voice cool and controlled, "that won't be necessary. Consider it a public service. Can't have bodies turning up all over town, can we? Bad for business."
He turned away, pretending to survey their surroundings. In truth, he needed a moment to collect himself. Kai's presence affected him, stirring up feelings and desires he'd long since buried. It was...unsettling.
"Speaking of which," Tao said, glancing back at Kai, "we should probably get moving. I'd rather not be here if anyone decides to investigate."
He started walking, not bothering to check if Kai was following. He knew the vampire would. Alphas like him couldn't resist a challenge, and Tao had just presented him with a rather intriguing one.
Tumblr media
Kai watched as Tao's fingers roamed over his skin. The vampire made no indication of discomfort, only leaning into the touch a bit more as though he were starved for the physical contact. The alpha let out a slow purr of content, enjoying the feeling. His eyes only opened slightly at the other man's words, an amused expression and a raised brow dancing on his facial expressions.
"Is that all you think this is? You must put a lot of weight on being an alpha or an omega then," Kai noted. It wasn't something he was unfamiliar with, but the vampire find those restrictions to be boring. In his eyes, his value derived from just how accepting another person could be when he showed his true colors. "If you were an alpha, or if I was an omega, I'd pursue you all the same," he mused, only tilting his head to place a small kiss on the palm of the other's hand.
"Of course, you being an attractive omega is certainly a plus. But I'm more intrigued about my bloodlust not being a bother for you. I've seen plenty of omegas and alphas turn away in disgust. But you didn't. And that's enough for me," Kai hummed, stepping even closer to the other man. If he would, he would pull him in and never let him go, not after such a fascinating display before. Part of him wondered if he should have just done that instead.
"Well, what sort of things do you think are fun? Perhaps we'll do something tonight that makes you enjoy your time with me. After all, you did just help me with my problems. Isn't it fair that I repay you someway?" he mused. Dark eyes remained fixated on Tao, eager to see how the other man would react to him.

Tao’s fingers hovered over Kai’s skin, but the touch wasn’t delicate, nor was it particularly gentle. He knew this was a game—could practically smell it on the air, like ozone before a storm.
Kai was an Alpha, after all. And what did Alphas love more than a good chase? The thrill of pursuit, the hunt of something—or someone—who wasn’t easily caught.
Tao couldn’t help the corner of his mouth twitching upward, though whether it was amusement or derision, even he wasn’t entirely sure.
“Is that how it works with you Alphas, then? First attractive Omega you see, and suddenly it’s all about the ‘fun’?” His tone was almost dismissive, bordering on mocking, though his eyes stayed locked on Kai’s, watching for any hint of reaction.
He didn’t pull away, didn’t back down. He’d seen Alphas like Kai before—confident, dominant, always in control. They all thought they could just walk in and take whatever they wanted. And maybe most of them could, but Tao was not like most Omegas.
"What kind of fun did you have in mind, then?" Tao asked, his tone casual, almost dismissive. But there was an edge to it, a sharpness that betrayed his genuine curiosity.
He wasn't about to let Kai get the upper hand that easily, nor was he about to be led around like some doe-eyed Omega who'd just been swept off his feet.
No, if Kai wanted to play, Tao would make damn sure it was on his terms.
Tumblr media
Enjoying the presence of another man who was so captivating and enticing, Kai just wanted to know so much more about him. He grinned as he felt man's finger brushing along his jawline. The vampire thought the question so funny, only tilting his head in a mixture of amusement and confusion. "Is smell that important?" Kai hummed, pretending to think of a nursery rhyme or tune to go along with his thoughts.
"Why would that bother me? For a man like yourself, what would be so wrong about carrying your scent? It just means I've had a lovely time with you, yet again. And I already look forward to it," Kai purred, letting his head be tilted about to expose different spots of skin and veins. "And if they mistake me as an omega, even better. It means they'll truly have no idea who I am."
He shuddered with delight as he felt Tao lean in, the breath of the other man tingling his skin. Kai only hummed in anticipation, his head leaning slightly into the quick lick beneath his ear. "I think, if people see me this close to you, they won't really care what I'm walking around like." A soft mewl slipped from his pink lips as he felt the light, teasing bite on his ear. It was a tasteful nip, but it only made the vampire want so much more.
"I pass your test then?" he teased back, only reaching to take Tao's hands in his own so he could bring them close to his own nose and lips. Kai gave it a tentative sniff, before kissing and lick along the other man's knuckles. "If I'm yours, then I don't have any intent of sharing you when you're mine. With all the fun I'd have with you, I wouldn't need to look anywhere else. As long as you can keep on providing me that fun."

Location: My Cup Runneth Over
Open To: Anyone | @newhavenstarters
Tao drummed his fingers on the table, his gaze flicking between his watch and the counter. The rich aroma of coffee permeated the air of My Cup Runneth Over, but it did little to soothe his impatience. He'd been waiting for his order for what felt like an eternity, though his watch insisted it had only been seven minutes.
Bloody hell, how long does it take to make a simple latte? He thought, suppressing a sigh. He was tempted to march to the counter and demand an explanation, but something held him back. A nagging voice in the back of his mind whispered that perhaps he should be more patient, more... accommodating.
He shook his head, trying to dislodge the thought. Since when did he care about being accommodating? He was Tao Xiaolong, for fuck's sake. He didn't wait for anyone or anything.
"Large soy latte for Tao!" the barista's voice finally rang out.
Tao stood up abruptly, nearly knocking over his chair in his haste. He strode towards the counter, focusing entirely on the steaming cup that awaited him. He reached out, fingers curling around the warm cardboard, when suddenly—
"Oof!"
Tumblr media
The world tilted sideways as Tao collided with something solid. No, not something—someone. The cup slipped from his grasp, its contents erupting in a spectacular spray of beige liquid.
His eyes widened in horror as he took in the scene. The stranger stood frozen, mouth agape, staring at his ruined shirt. The café had gone eerily quiet, all eyes on them.
"Oh my God," Tao breathed, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm so sorry. I didn't see you there. Are you alright? You're not burned, are you?"
The words tumbled out of his mouth in a rush, his usual composure completely shattered. He grabbed a handful of napkins from the nearby dispenser and began dabbing at the man's shirt, his movements frantic and uncoordinated.
"I'm such a clumsy oaf," Tao continued, his cheeks burning with embarrassment. "I should have been paying attention. This is entirely my fault. Please, let me buy you a new shirt. And a coffee, of course. Whatever you'd like."

Tao let his eyes drift over Kai, taking his time as though inspecting a piece of art that demanded his undivided attention. There was a certain satisfaction in watching the vampire’s posture shift from mock obedience to something far more primal, the way a cat might stretch lazily after a long nap before preparing to pounce.
He allowed the silence to stretch, his gaze lingering on Kai's face before he slowly raised a single finger, brushing it lightly against the vampire’s jawline.
“Tell me, Kai,” Tao murmured, voice low and measured, “does it not bother you to smell like an omega?” The finger slid under Kai’s chin, tipping his head slightly to the side, exposing the pale column of his neck. “You’ll have my scent all over you for quite a while, you know. People might get the wrong idea.”
His eyes caught a faint smear of blood just below Kai's ear, a small remnant missed in the vampire's earlier feast. Without breaking eye contact, Tao leaned in, his breath ghosting over Kai’s skin. “Can’t have you walking around with that, now can we?” His tongue darted out, warm and wet, as it traced over the smear, tasting the metallic tang of blood.
Tao allowed himself a moment to enjoy the taste before he nipped at Kai's ear, the bite teasing and deliberate, just enough pressure to send a clear message. He drew back, a smug, prideful smirk curling his lips as he met Kai’s gaze, his own filled with a lazy, predatory satisfaction.
“Now you look presentable,” Tao remarked, his voice dripping with feigned innocence. He brushed his hands together as though cleaning away the remnants of their little interaction. “But I do wonder—how do you feel about carrying around smelling like you're mine. Well, between us, you're the alpha. I suppose They'll think I'm part of your harem."
Tumblr media
Watching as the other man took away his blood-stained shirt, the vampire let out a low whistle of amusement as the shirt burst into flames. It quickly burned away into ash and was scattered over the grass. Kai had to admit that for his own past time activities, that would certainly be a handy skill to have. "That's a neat trick. Sure makes covering things up a lot easier. And it'll keep me nice and warm at night too," he teased, his dark eyes turning away from the flame to look up at the man once more.
The alpha vampire sat there patiently as he watched the stranger pull off his hoodie. Taking the offered clothing, Kai slowly stood up, like a cat stretching itself after a long nap. He had finished lapping up any last stray droplets of blood on his arms, as even he knew it would have ruined the point of this clean-up if he got more blood on his new outfit. Kai slipped on the hoodie, but not before he took his time to breath in the dragonblood's scent on his clothes. It was a satisfying smell to him, and Kai was more than happy to slip on the other man's clothes.
As sharp as Tao's tone was, Kai didn't mind being reprimanded by someone as handsome as this. For one thing, he never really took the reprimands to heart, but he was always happy to pretend to listen to someone who looked like that. "Sir yes sir!" he said with a grin as he gave the other man a mock salute. "If you know so much then, perhaps my knight in shining armor wouldn't mind.... teaching me a few things about how to perfect this craft?" Kai took a step forward, his eyes glittering with a newfound hunger to learn so much more about this man. "It seems I have lots of things to learn from you. And of course, I wouldn't mind spending some more time with you, my handsome mystery man." Body disposal, refining his performance, what were the chances he'd find someone like this in another life?

He regarded the vampire with cool amusement, one eyebrow arched. "I'm not exactly squeamish, darling. But it's terribly rude to leave such a mess lying about. You can play with your food all you like, but be a lad and clean up afterwards."
His gaze travelled slowly over Kai's body, taking in the lean muscles and blood-spattered skin without trying to hide his appraisal. The vampire was undoubtedly easy on the eyes, even covered in gore. Or, perhaps, especially so.
"As for getting cleaned up..." He plucked the stained shirt from Kai's hands, holding it at arm's length. "Allow me."
With a deep inhale, he opened his mouth and breathed out a gout of flame. The shirt ignited instantly, crumbling to ash in seconds. A breeze caught the remnants, scattering them to the wind.
Tumblr media
"There we are. Much tidier." He dusted off his hands. "Now, about that body of yours. I'd suggest finding a nice, out-of-the-way spot for the local wildlife to take care of things. Animals are marvellous at explaining away any unusual marks, don't you think? Burned bodies draw too much attention."
The vampire's theatrics had worn thin, though Kai's antics had a certain charm—like watching a child play pretend. He reached up and tugged at the collar of his hoodie, pulling it off with smooth precision. The fabric slipped over his head, revealing a simple black T-shirt underneath that clung to his frame. He crumpled the hoodie in his hands, holding it out to the bloodstained vampire before him.
"Let's get one thing clear," Tao began, his tone conversational yet edged with something sharper. "If you insist on this... dramatic flair, you might want to work on the finer points. You're trying to sell the role of a victim, but your eyes give you away. Too calculating, too aware. And that trembling? Far too controlled."
Keeping his gaze fixated on the man in front of him, Kai listened to the way he said his words, the fluctuation in his tone, and even his slow and careful approach towards him. The alpha vampire figured he wasn't going to get a second meal out of someone so cautious, but it wasn't like he was particularly hungry anymore. And as his intuition would have it, this man seemed to see past his little facade. A pity, Kai was hoping he could have just a little bit more fun with it.
The vampire broke his pitiful, pleading expression, his mouth forming a wide, toothy grin instead. "Well, you could've let me play along just a little bit longer. I went through all that effort just to get your attention." Tapping his cheeks as if in thought, Kai held the other man's gaze. He held his bloody hands up, only lapping up the blood like a cat cleaning off its paws. "Cleaning up is such a bore. I always like hearing people scream whenever they find the body. But, I guess I'll try it your way."
Clapping his hands together, Kai carefully tugged off his blood-stained shirt. "Any ideas on getting cleaned up then? Although I have to ask, why would a handsome stranger like yourself be so willing to help someone like me? Surely there are no other strings attached to your offer to help me?"

Tao snagged two towels from a nearby bench, tossing one to Seth. He pondered Seth's question as he wiped the sweat from his face, the coarse fabric rough against his skin. New Haven. The name itself conjured images of somewhere safe, of new beginnings. It was unlike anywhere Tao had seen before.
"It's... an adjustment," Tao admitted, his voice muffled by the towel. He lowered it, meeting Seth's gaze. "No missions, no handlers, no death. Just... life. Normal, everyday life." The words felt strange on his tongue as if he were speaking a foreign language.
His lips quirked in a humourless smile. "Though I must say, being able to hit something certainly helps with the transition." He rolled his shoulders, feeling the pleasant ache of exertion. "You can hit harder, you know. If you want to, that is."
"Quite sure," Tao replied, a hint of challenge creeping into his tone. "If it gets too rough, I've got scales for protection." He flexed his hand, watching iridescent dragon scales briefly shimmered across his knuckles before fading into smooth skin.

new  haven  sure  offered  the  chill  life  it  promised,  even  to  someone  like  him.  seth  knew  only  two  modi  for  life:  hunt  &  kill.  but  here,  he  got  to  explore  a  different  side  of  himself,  even  if  it  was  ..  a  lot  of  his  old  skills  re-worked,  recycled  &  shaped  anew.  to  use  them  for  good  from  now  on.  he  had  too  much  proverbial  blood  on  his  hands  already,  maybe  he  shouldn't  be  doing  this,  but  it  didn't  count,  did  it?
this  was  different.
this  was  fun.
feline  senses  definitely  gave  him  an  edge  in  the  ring;  light  on  his  feet,  quick  to  react  to  incoming  hits.  he  didn't  dodge  them  all,  but  some.  those  who  mattered  it  seemed,  sharp  eyes  finding  an  opening.
sometimes  one  mistake  is  all  it  needs  to  lose  a  fight.  that  didn't  mean  much.  this  time  he  won,  though  the  grin  on  his  lips  was  unmistakenly  a  big  one.  like  he'd  won  championships.  or  whatever  else  boxers  won.
but  he  was  also  an  athlete  of  sorts,  so  his  hand  went  out,  glad  when  the  favor  was  accepted.  he  pulled  him  up  with  ease,  hand  on  tao's  shoulder  &  giving  it  a  little  squeeze.  "thanks,  glad  to  know  my  training's  not  in  vain.  you  did  pretty  well  yourself,  man.  got  a  good  few  hits  in."  this  ...  was  easy.  this  was  what  he  was  good  at.  most  other  shit  people  did  in  town?  not  so  much.

Tao's nostrils flared as Caius' scent washed over him - rich and intoxicating, with unmistakable notes of arousal. His body reacted instantly, a rush of heat flooding his core.
Bloody hell, Tao thought, fighting to maintain his composure. His own arousal mingled with Caius', creating a spicy perfume that made his head spin. He hadn't reacted this strongly to an alpha's presence in decades. What was it about this man that affected him so powerfully?
Tao's eyes widened as he registered his body's betrayal. Arousal? For a stranger? A man he had literally only met? He'd spent decades cultivating iron control over his omega biology. Yet here he was, practically panting after a stranger like some hormone-addled teenager.
The realization gave him pause. When was the last time he'd felt genuine desire, rather than clinical detachment? Too long, apparently. His body clearly had other ideas about remaining aloof.
Caius' words finally filtered through the haze of pheromones.
Tumblr media
Tao couldn't help the internal laugh that bubbled up. Young? If only Caius knew. Given that vampires weren't the immortal creatures of myth and legend, Tao would bet good money he had at least a century on Caius. But he wasn't about to correct that assumption. Let the other think him an innocent lamb. It might prove useful later.
"That's very kind of you," Tao murmured, letting a hint of bashfulness color his tone. "I've always been fascinated by history. Each piece tells a story, doesn't it?"
His fingers tightened imperceptibly around the bracelet. The metal hummed against his skin.
He knew exactly what the bracelet was - a Dragonmind, capable of storing vast amounts of knowledge. In the wrong hands, it could be incredibly dangerous. But he couldn't explain that to Caius, especially if the shopkeeper decided to hike up the price. Or worse, refuse to sell it altogether.
"Oh, I'm not sure," Tao lied smoothly, forcing a self-deprecating chuckle. "Something about the pattern caught my eye. But you're the expert here." He met Caius' gaze, allowing a hint of challenge to spark in his eyes. "What would you suggest instead?"
Caius observed the raven haired male as he turned around. He wasnt trying anything sly, so that was a start - He could definitely give the omega a little bit of his trust for now. The other's smell was almost breathtaking as it grew from the other. Was the other doing it on purpose as a trick, or was he really that nervous of Caius that his pheromones had raised ever so slightly. No matter the case, he continued the conversation with a smile, trying to be friendly to the customer after all the council would allow him to keep this place if he didnt sell anything once in a while. "Don't fret, young one. You're safe for now." he smirked amusing himself.
Tumblr media
The vampire gave the other a firm handshake. "Tao that's an interesting one.. but nice and sweet. Just like your natural scent." He commented before clearing his throat. "The name's Caius and welcome to Crimson Curiosities, the pleasure is mine. Tao." He glanced the other over, noticing his body for what it was enjoying the view for a moment before clocking back in. "Oh something caught your eye, aye?" His eyes darted to the piece that Tao was acknowledging. "That piece is pretty unique, but unless you were planning on giving it to someone.. im not sure its the best one in this case that suits you." He shrugged. "Any exact reason why you're drawn to that one, handsome?" he bit his lower lip, wondering what the omega truly knew.

The low, velvety voice sent a jolt through his body. His hand froze halfway to the concealed knife. Every nerve ending sparked to life, hairs standing on end.
Bloody hell.
He spun around, cursing his lapse in awareness. The stranger stood mere inches away, close enough that his scent overpowered Tao completely. Rich and intoxicating, like aged whiskey and dark chocolate.
Tao's breath caught in his throat. The man before him was devastatingly handsome - tall and broad-shouldered, with chiselled features and eyes that gleamed in the dim light.
Alpha. Danger.
His body's reaction was instantaneous and mortifying. Heat flooded his cheeks. His pulse quickened, hammering against his ribcage. And deep in his core, an ache blossomed - primal and urgent.
No. Not now. Not here.
Tumblr media
Tao fought to regain his composure, to quell the surge of hormones threatening to overwhelm him. He'd spent decades mastering control over his omega biology. He wouldn't let it slip now.
"Terribly sorry," Tao managed, proud that his voice remained steady. "Didn't mean to intrude. I was just browsing."
"I'm Tao." He offered his hand, pulse jumping as he closed his fingers around Caius'. The vampire's skin was cool, yet it sent tendrils of heat racing up one arm.
"Quite a selection you've got here. Didn't expect to find something I fancy so soon." Tao's voice softened as he met Caius' eyes. "It's not often you stumble upon the perfect fit straight away."
He paused, then smiled and glanced at the bracelet. "Bit of a unique pattern, isn't it?"
As old as this man was, vintage was his middle name. The small little repository was his and Caius was proud to own it. Although some of the items were mere things you could find in a witch's junk drawer he still knew that he could make profit and sell this false hope, wisdom or mystery to whoever stumbled on in to Crimson Curiosities. It was also like a second home to him, and he made sure to get there pretty early in the morning before the sun rose, hoping not to risk anything with the sphere of the sky that was like eternal flame to his skin. Caius enjoyed the piece and quiet from time to time, as he had learned to deal with it in the many decades of being alive. From watching others grow old, to not knowing where to go in his early stages - he was happy that he could be settled in New Haven.
Tumblr media
It had surprised him that door's bell had rung, as it was later in the day and most people weren't around this part of town. I mean.. who would want to spend their nights after a hard day at work looking around an antique shop.
He quickly but quietly walked into the main room looking for his esteemed guest to see what exactly had piqued their interest. He couldn't tell what the man's true intentions were, but he knew there wasn't much behind the cabinet of jewelry that could really be worth trying to pickpocket. If one thing was for sure he couldn't get the younger looking male's scent away from his sense of smell. It was a light floral scent that reminded him of his past in some ways, and a bit on the fruity side too. Caius moved super close to the male wondering would his next move would be. But all he could do was give out a deep but stern. "Welcome, didn't realize someone had stopped in."

The antique shop's bell tinkled as Tao pushed open the heavy oak door. Soft golden light spilled across polished wooden floors, illuminating rows of gleaming display cases.
Bloody hell, it's like stepping back in time, Tao thought, pausing occasionally to examine items that caught his eye. A pair of jade earrings glinted in the light, their craftsmanship exquisite. He lifted one, admiring the intricate carving.
"Not bad," he murmured, setting it back down. "Though I've seen finer work in Beijing."
Tao ran a finger along the spine of a leather-bound book, admiring the gold leaf lettering. A collection of antique fountain pens caught his eye, their nibs gleaming like tiny daggers.
"Beautiful craftsmanship," he murmured, lifting one to inspect it more closely. The weight felt satisfying in his hand. For a moment, he was tempted to pocket it. Old habits died hard.
He set the pen down with a rueful smile. He wasn't here to nick trinkets. This was meant to be a casual browse, nothing more. A way to kill time before his next appointment.
His gaze fell on a display case near the back of the shop. Nestled among gaudy costume jewellery and tarnished silver lay a simple bracelet. At first glance, it appeared unremarkable. A band of dull metal, unadorned save for a few etched symbols.
Tumblr media
Tao's breath caught in his throat.
It can't be.
He moved closer, drawn by an irresistible force. The vibration grew stronger with each step. By the time he reached the case, it thrummed through his bones like the bass line of a forgotten song.
Tao pressed his hands against the cool glass, peering intently at the bracelet. The metal wasn't silver or steel, but something... different. Familiar. His fingers itched to touch it, to confirm what his senses were screaming.
Dragolon. A Dragonmind.
Tao was so lost in thought that he failed to notice the quiet footsteps approaching from behind. It wasn't until he felt a breath on the back of his neck that he realized he was no longer alone.
Every muscle in his body tensed. Tao's hand instinctively moved toward the concealed knife at his belt, centuries of honed instincts kicking in.
Careless, he berated himself. You let yourself get distracted.

The canvas creaked under Tao's feet as he bounced, fists raised. Sweat trickled down his spine, the salty tang mingling with the heady scent of leather. Overhead, fluorescent lights blazed, casting shadows across the ring.
To his eyes, Seth's hulking form shifted, muscles rippling as he circled. Tao's eyes narrowed, tracking every minute movement. Size isn't everything, he reminded himself.
With lightning speed, Tao darted forward. His fist whistled through the air, only to meet empty space as Seth seemed to dodge. Undeterred, Tao pivoted, unleashing a flurry of strikes. Jab, cross, hook - each punch flowed into the next with practiced precision.
But as the minutes ticked by, fatigue began to set in. Tao's breaths came in ragged gasps, his muscles burning with exertion. Sweat stung his eyes, momentarily blurring his vision.
In that split second of distraction, a meaty fist crashed into Tao's jaw, snapping his head back. The world tilted sideways as Tao stumbled, his legs buckling beneath him. He hit the canvas with a resounding thud, stars exploding behind his eyelids.
For a moment, Tao lay there, dazed. Then, blinking away the spots in his vision, he looked up to see Seth extending a hand. A grin tugged at Tao's lips as he clasped the offered arm.
"Nice hit," Tao said, allowing Seth to pull him to his feet. "You've got one hell of a right cross."

Tao chuckled, a low sound that rumbled through his chest. "Voodoo? Not quite, mate. Just good old-fashioned technique." He moved closer, his body sliding through the cool water with practiced ease. "You see, us Omegas, we've got to be clever. Can't rely on brute strength like you, Alphas."
His eyes locked onto Arwyn's, dark and intense. "We're supposed to be weaker, yeah? Slower. So we learn... other ways."
Tao's hand ghosted along Arwyn's collarbone, leaving a trail of goosebumps in its wake. He leaned in, his breath hot against Arwyn's ear. "Ways to make even the strongest Alpha weak in the knees."
With a swift motion, Tao nipped at Arwyn's earlobe, then trailed his teeth down the column of his throat.
Tumblr media
That's it, Tao thought, a thrill of satisfaction rushing through him. Let's see how long that Alpha composure lasts.
His hand slid lower, tracing the ridges of Arwyn's abdomen before dipping beneath the waistband of his swim trunks. Tao's fingers brushed against coarse hair, then lower still, wrapping around Arwyn's hardening length.
Tao smirked against Arwyn's skin, continuing his ministrations. He stroked slowly, deliberately, feeling Arwyn grow fully hard in his hand. The contrast between the cool lake water and the heat of Arwyn's cock sent shivers down Tao's spine.
"You like that?" Tao murmured, his thumb circling the sensitive head. "Want more?"
Before Arwyn could even answer, Tao cut him off with a bruising kiss, swallowing these little noises as he increased the pace of his strokes. He felt powerful, in control. This was what he'd been missing, what he'd denied himself for so long.
Tao revelled in the sensations - the slick slide of skin on skin, the taste of Arwyn's lips, the scent of their mingled arousal cutting through the crisp air.
Arwyn watched as the other's demeanor changed as well. Which excited the alpha as they both seemed to be getting more relaxed in the body of water. The thought of friendship and companionship really made Arwyn feel warm inside. What he wasn't expecting was Tao to put his arm around him. "Look, - its complicated. I didnt mean it as an insult or anything. I just feel like I'm a little too much energy for you and I want to respect that." The darker toned male's breath hitched as the other traveled down his torso with his hand.
Tumblr media
How did things get so tense and steamy within a matter of seconds? The other was essentially worshipping his body and that pleased Arwyn. It made him want to take risks. He whimpered as the other got to the waistband, his dick twitching. "Hey woah, now what just happened? Was that some kind of voodoo shenanigan thing you just did?" he took a quick breath. "You really trying to tease me like this?" Arwyn grabbed the other by the neck and caressed his cheek with his thumb. "You're the one that knows you best.. so If I'm your type then lets stop beating around the bush.

Tao paused, taking in the scene before him with cool detachment. The metallic scent of blood hung heavy in the air, a familiar perfume that tickled his nose. His gaze swept over the crimson-spattered white shirt, tracing the wild pattern of droplets with clinical precision.
No wounds. No tears in the fabric.
His eyes narrowed, picking out the subtle details others might miss. A faint trail of blood droplets led away from the scene, barely visible in the dim light. If you're going to play the victim, at least do a proper job of it. Tao's lips quirked in a small, sardonic smile.
The man's breathing was too controlled, his trembling too precise. A performance, and a rather ham-fisted one at that.
How droll, Tao thought. He fancies himself quite the actor.
He stepped forward, nearly kneeling, and carefully kept his movements slow and non-threatening. No need to spook the predator playing at being prey. "Are you alright?" Tao asked, injecting just the right amount of concern into his voice.
Tao's lips quirked in a small, humourless smile. "I wouldn't worry about that," he said mildly. "I'm sure your attacker is long gone by now."
He stood, brushing imaginary dirt from his knees, and fixed Kai with a steady gaze. "Though I must say, you've made quite a mess of your shirt. Blood's a devil to get out, you know. Might I suggest a good dry cleaner? I know one that doesn't ask too many questions."
"You seem to have had quite the night," Tao continued conversationally. "I hope you've taken care of any... loose ends? It would be a shame if someone stumbled upon something they shouldn't."
His almond eyes glanced pointedly at the blood trail leading further away.
Tao crouched down again, bringing himself to eye level with the man. "So, shall we dispense with the theatrics? I'm far more interested in hearing about your disposal methods. It's been a while since such... techniques were part of my job description." He paused, gaze sweeping over the stranger's blood-spattered form. "Though perhaps we should get you cleaned up first. Blood has a nasty habit of leaving stains, and that's a nice shirt."
Tumblr media
He hadn't intended for his meal to be quite as messy as it had been, but something about them squirming under his grasp and his ever-growing hunger and need for a hunt made Kai just a bit overzealous with his kill. He was in the middle of inspecting his bloody white shirt when he saw someone approaching him. Unsure if it was friend or foe, Kai masked his satisfaction with a look of distress and pain.
"I-I... I don't even know where he came from. He just came out of nowhere, attacking me on a rampage," Kai said, pretending to wince as if the blood were his own. "That's what I get for walking home alone at night," he whimpered, a tremble and stutter in his voice to present a timid appearance. "I think h-he's still out here... but I don't know which way he went..."

Tao blinked, caught off guard by the sudden shift in tone. He studied Arwyn's face, searching for any sign of mockery, but found only sincerity. A warmth spread through his chest, unexpected and not entirely unwelcome. His skin prickled with awareness, droplets of water clinging to his eyelashes as he gazed at Arwyn.
Bollocks, Tao thought, his heart rate quickening. He's actually being... nice.
For a moment, Tao allowed himself to consider Arwyn's words. Maybe he had been too quick to dismiss the possibility of happiness, of companionship. But old habits died hard, and vulnerability had never been his strong suit. He swallowed, his throat suddenly dry despite the cool lake water lapping at his chin.
Instead of responding directly, Tao decided to lean into the playful energy Arwyn was offering. He swam closer, closing the distance between them with a few smooth strokes. The water caressed his skin as he moved, sending shivers down his spine. "Oh? So you don't think you're my type, eh?" he purred, his voice low and teasing.
Tao took advantage, draping one arm over Arwyn's broad shoulder. The heat of Arwyn's skin against his own sent a jolt of electricity through him. He began tracing a path across Arwyn's chest with his free hand, fingers gliding over the wet, smooth skin. He felt the rise and fall of Arwyn's breath, the subtle twitch of muscle beneath his touch.
Tumblr media
"So," Tao drawled, pressing himself closer to Arwyn. "Not my type, eh? And here I thought a handsome Alpha was everyone's type."
He let his fingers trail lower, down Arwyn's toned abdomen. Tao could feel Arwyn's breath hitch as his hand reached the waistband of his swim trunks.
With a devilish grin, Tao let his fingertips dip just inside the fabric, ghosting along the sensitive skin there. He leaned in close, his lips nearly brushing Arwyn's ear as he whispered; the scent of arousal, musky and intoxicating, wafted between them, making Tao's head spin.
"You sure about that 'not my type' thing?"
Before Arwyn could answer, Tao was already pulling away, a triumphant smile on his face. The sudden loss of contact left his skin tingling, yearning for more.
"Gotcha," he said with a wink, his voice returning to its usual timbre, though slightly husky with desire. "Should see your face right now, mate. Priceless."
He'd lit a fire, and now he wasn't sure if he could control the blaze. "Oi, close your mouth, mate," Tao teased. "You'll catch flies that way."
It was nice to just get to clear the air and swim around a lake and be off work. He knew he was getting pretty serious with how he was talking but he knew that Tao could take it. It was like he was going to get punch for asking about this.. well at least hopefully. "I just figured I wasn't your type, you're definitely a catch which is why im surprised you're not with anyone." He mentioned. Arwyn realizes that the joy has been depleted from the other mans face. Maybe he had chose the wrong subject talk about. "Look I didnt mean to open a wound and thats my fault." He caressed the others arm as he swam closer hoping he was okay. "You are brave for even speaking up on it, and I appreciate you so much Tao. Im sorry that dream didnt pan out for you." He tried to gain his friends smile back. "Youre right we should focus on having fun. That's why were here aren't we handsome?" he laughed.

open to: everyone location: Got You Covered bookstore
The musty scent of aged paper and leather bindings filled Tao's nostrils as he stretched on his tiptoes, fingers grazing the spine of the elusive book. Just a bit more, he thought, muscles straining. The rickety wooden stepladder creaked ominously beneath him.
"Come on, you stubborn git," he muttered, his crisp British accent clipped with frustration. His fingertips brushed the book's edge, nearly grasping it.
Tao, a lean man appearing in his late twenties with tousled black hair and sharp brown eyes, wore a simple white t-shirt and dark jeans. A silver dragon-shaped bracelet glinted on his wrist as he reached for the book.
A sudden rumble filled the air as books tumbled from the shelves. Tao ducked instinctively, throwing his arms over his head. Heavy volumes pelted his shoulders and back, their sharp corners digging into his skin. Pages fluttered around him in a paper storm, rustling like startled birds. The rickety ladder swayed beneath his feet, creaking ominously with each impact.
"Oh, bollocks!" he exclaimed, gripping the shelf to steady himself.
A pained groan echoed from the other side of the bookcase. Tao's stomach dropped. Someone had been hit.
He scrambled down the ladder, nearly tripping over fallen books in his haste. "I'm so sorry!" he called out, rounding the corner of the shelf. "Are you alright?"

The moment their hands connected, a jolt of electricity shot up his arm. Tao's eyes widened, his breath catching in his throat. Anders' grip was firm, warm, and far too inviting for comfort. He pulled away quickly, shoving his hands into his pockets.
Tao's eyes widened, surprised by the direct flirting. His face felt warm, and he inwardly sighed at his body's automatic response. As an omega, he sometimes found it frustrating how quickly he blushed in these situations. "Blimey, you don't beat around the bush, do you?" he muttered, trying to regain his composure. "I'm perfectly capable of staying on my feet, thank you very much."
But even as the words left his mouth, Tao's stomach fluttered traitorously, his head spinning as Anders' intoxicating scent of pine, musk, and untamed wilderness wrapped around him. His omega instincts purred, urging him to lean closer, to breathe deeper. He clenched his fists, fighting against the primal pull with every ounce of his stubborn will.
He's just another alpha trying to get in your pants, Tao reminded himself sternly. But even as he thought it, he knew it wasn't entirely true. There was something different about Anders, something that set him apart from the countless alphas who'd tried to charm their way into Tao's good graces over the years. It was refreshing, even if it set off warning bells in Tao's head.
Tao's brow furrowed. "This time?" he echoed, confusion momentarily overriding his wariness. "What, did you pop out of a time machine or something?"
Tumblr media
"Tao.  Lovely  to  meet  you,  I  promise  if  you  ever  throw  yourself  at  me  again,  I  will  be  more  than  equipped  to  catch  you.  I  find  it  is  a  failure  of  my  own  that  I  let  you  fall  this  time.  It  is  not  in  my  habit  of  letting  handsome  men  not  be  able  to  count  on  me."  Anders  gave  the  other  a  little  bow  and  a  wink.  Tao  was  nice  to  look  at  for  sure,  and  he  smelled  amazing.
Anders  offered  his  hand  to  the  other  man,  to  shake,  hold  his  hand  perhaps?  "What  were  you  so  lost  in  thought  about  Tao?  I  find  there  are  so  many  things  in  this  time  to  ponder  on.  So  many  wonders  I  have  yet  to  see  or  learn  about.  I  particularly  like  television  there  is  always  something  new  on  the  funny  little  box."

But even as the words left his mouth, Tao felt a treacherous flutter in his stomach. Arwyn's scent - earthy and warm, with a hint of smoke - was far from unpleasant. In fact, it was downright intoxicating. Bloody hell, Tao thought, get it together.
Tao blinked, caught off guard. What's this, then? He'd always pegged Arwyn as just another knot-brained Alpha, chasing after anything that moved. He treaded water, studying his friend's face. There was a vulnerability there he'd never noticed before. Blimey, he's serious.
A harsh chuckle broke the tension. "Come off it, mate. What's this guff about small Omegas? I'm a right catch, I am." He tensed his arm, splashing water towards his friend. "See these muscles? Who could say no to all this?"
But Arwyn didn't seem to rise to the bait.
Tao let out a weary breath, his shoulders sagging as the forced grin faded. "I don't know, mate," he said, his voice low and rough. "I used to want all that. A family, the white picket fence, the whole fairy tale ending."
He paused, running a hand through his dark hair. The words seemed to catch in his throat, and when he spoke again, his tone was harsh. "But that dream? It's long gone. Died years back, along with..." Tao trailed off, his jaw clenching as he looked away. "Well, you know the rest."
Tao swallowed hard, fighting the sudden lump in his throat. Images flashed through his mind - a cozy home, the patter of tiny feet, the warmth of a loving embrace. Everything he'd ever wanted and everything he was too afraid to reach for.
"Not everyone's cut out for that life. Right now," Tao continued, forcing a shrug, "I'm just trying to enjoy what I've got. Have a bit of fun along the way, yeah?" He splashed some water at Arwyn, trying to lighten the heaviness that had settled over them. "Maybe one day I'll want all that again. But for now... I'm just not sure."
Tumblr media
He shook his head as the other thought he knew it all. "I mean I dont mind muscled up men, but I tend to go for smaller framed omegas.. if i'm being honest." Arwyn was glad he could just be himself around Tao, no matter how serious or playful they were together it was always a fun time. He made the most of it. "I'm not dreaming about sex, im a bit of a hopeless romantic type and since its been two years without finding someone really.. like who i was like "courting" and seeing in the past.. It just makes you wonder. I do want a family of my own. Is that too much to ask." Arwyn scoffed as the other accused him of smelling. "Wow Tao, you're asking for it, I dont think I smell that bad.. Maybe it was the close I was wearing before we got in.. I know I need to do some Laundry." He shrugged. "But seriously, do you not.. dream about having something like that? You really gonna be all stoic forever alone dragon?" he raised his brow.
