        “ no, yeah, jeanette, listen… i said i’m good, i promise—  ” he yawns, laid out on the couch in the foyer of his apartment building, feet hiked up, resting on the opposite arm of the fixture. it had been a long night… day? fuck, what time was it? — and cole had two options, seemingly. walk to his apartment, tired. OR, take a quick cat nap next to the revolving door and the receptionist with the judgey eyes. fucking, jeanette. always had something to say, that one. opening one eye, casually, he bites the inside of his cheek, “ oh… oh, my bad. i thought you were— never mind. ”

upon entering the apartment building, she was quite surprised by the man on the couch and was going to just pass him by without disturbing him, but he already spoke up, causing her to be slightly confused. "who's jeanette?" she mumbled to herself with a shake of her head. when she noticed an employee gesturing to wake him up though, callie let out a sigh and shook his shoulder. except she jumped a little upon realizing he wasn’t fully asleep. “you thought i was who? your lover?" she teased.

“what do i want from santa? ---i’m not quite sure.” that was a lie. callie actually wanted something, but not in the sense where it was easily handed to her. because it wasn’t a present. “maybe a puppy, i guess.”

for each moment she was without hearing, the world seemed to slow. her aids had been turned off, just for a moment so she could try and calm her headache, but it was enough to disappear into her head. she didn’t notice, of course, the person who’d walked towards her table, or anything they were saying. “what was that?” she asked, turning the volume back up, and smiling. “didn’t have my ears on, sorry.”

she opened up her mouth upon realizing maxime didn’t hear her this whole time, but she didn’t mind repeating herself. “i wanted to know if this chair wasn’t taken by any chance? i just need a place to sit and eat.”

“---bears?“ giving a puzzled expression, callie furrowed her eyebrows with a shake of her head. she didn’t hear anything about bears being on the loose, so she didn’t quite understand. with being new in town, she didn’t expect bears to be free and roaming. and she didn’t know about riley’s career. “what bears are you talking about? is it usual for bears to be out and about?”

leaning against the bench, sandwich in hands, she took a bite while looking over at daisy. she could have moved elsewhere still, but she was too lazy now. "---oh, but i wanted to eat my sandwich. here. and i’ll throw my trash away when i’m done, except i’m still eating, so there’s no point in going there when i want to be here. besides, i’ll pass by the trash can on my way back to work. it’s not like i’m bothering you until you decided to talk."

“that depends, do i get presents? i’ve been a good kid this year,” samantha asks her sweetly, even matching with batting her eyelashes. really, it’s more of her being playful than actually expecting anything. “but sure. can we make a quick stop at the craft store though? i’ve decided i’m DIY-ing most of my gifts.”

"we’ll see. i'll think about it, alright?" she joked with a laugh before reaching a hand out to ruffle the girl's hair. "and yeah, of course. who knows, maybe i’ll be inspired to do diys too. then after, we might as well grab a bite to eat."

           ‘ i … um  … ‘ daisy looked at the other before a hand moved to the back of her neck . the woman didn’t even remember the last time she went christmas shopping or even just gift shopping in general . it had been some time . a LONG ass time . ‘ i uh … i guess . are we going to the mall ?? because if we are , i’d like to get a salted pretzel with mustard . ‘ 

she almost jumped for joy when hearing daisy's response, happy to know that she agreed to go with her. "yes, we are. at least, that's what i wanted us to do. now that you've mentioned pretzels, i don't mind getting one either, so we'll definitely stop by to get one first."

scratching the back of her head, dakota thought about it for a few seconds. she still wanted to go out and do christmas shopping rather than online, but if ethan didn't want to go, then she'd deal with it. "---alright. we'll order online, but do you promise to help me out?" it was then that she started pouting while looking at him. "please? i really need help."

“honestly? i’d say no thanks. i don’t really have a lot of people to buy for. just myself at times.” she couldn’t help but shrug. it was pretty true. she wasn’t close to her parents and she only had a handful of friends she would buy for. it wasn’t a big deal or anything. she liked it that way. “what are you planning on getting, though? that’s the best part.” 

humming softly, she had her arms crossed and glanced away as she looked somewhere else. as if it was going to help her decide on what she even wanted to buy. which, it didn't. "uhh---... clothes? maybe jewelry or watches?" dakota bit her bottom lip then finally faced leilah again and shrugged. “i didn’t really put thought into the gifts. which, i guess, is kind of why i wanted to look around. do you have any suggestions though?”

vanessa scratches the back of her head. the obvious disinterest was prominent through her facial features. “i don’t know…” a majority of her gifts were already on the way to her apartment. thanks to online shopping, she didn’t even need to leave the house. “i already bought most of the gifts i needed. but i suppose it depends on where you’re going.” she hasn’t ate all day and she knew the fridge only had a carton of milk and butter. so, maybe leaving the house wasn’t such a bad idea. “i’m down to eat?” she says in the form of a question. hoping the other female would get the hint.

tapping her index finger against her lips, the brunette took a moment to decide. there were tons of stores, she wanted to go to, but if vanessa truly wasn't in the mood, she didn't want to drag her around all day. "well, i was thinking hot topic, spencers, macys, dillards, victorias secret, and maybe another store or two." moving her hand down, she shoved them in the pockets of her jacket then shrugged. "if you'd like to eat first, we can do that though? i didn't really eat breakfast yet."

a bright smile formed on her face as she received a heck yeah because she was certainly hyped for the holidays and couldn't wait to go shopping along with decorating later on. "awesome then! maybe later we could also watch a bunch of christmas movies and sip on hot cocoa." the fact that she wasn’t going to spend time with her family at all, she was glad to at least spend time with friends. “---how about victoria’s secret?”

"well, i did mean today, but if you're working, we could always reschedule, right? what kind of job do you have anyway?" she asked, shrugging. it certainly wasn’t a problem for the brunette to change the day, as long as it wasn’t a few days before christmas. dakota already made the mistake of doing last minute shopping before and she hated it. “just text me when you’re free and we could go.”

A GROAN LEAVES HER LIPS . reyna’s never been the biggest fan of christmas and she likes to blame her family for it . but the entire holiday has always left a seemingly bittersweet , albeit more bitter than sweet , taste in her mouth . “ can’t we just sit together and go online christmas shopping ? the stores will be a total nightmare around this time . i tried going lingerie shopping yesterday and some mother of two elbowed me in the fuckin’ tit trying to get to the toys-r-us next to victoria’s secret .” 

she shook her head at reyna's response before saying, "what would be the fun in online shopping? besides, what if you find something better at the store than online?" dakota attempted to reason with the brunette, but felt like she was failing deep down. in fact, dakota didn’t mind going online shopping, it was just the fact that she thought there could be something better to find in person. plus, she figured it would be easier to find the things she were looking for instead of having to go through websites.

Adam looked at the other brunette, swallowed, and gave his attention to a passing car playing loud, thumping music. He hadn’t seen Dakota much since she went away for college—a fault all his own, really. He never replied to her texts. “Is it okay if I say ‘no thanks’?” he asked as he looked at her with a playfully cautious and apologetic expression. He tried to get across that he didn’t want to go because he didn’t want to shop and it had nothing to do with their currently awkward friendship. But he really did need to get some Christmas shopping done.

"---can i ask why?" she questioned with a tilt of her head. dakota had all kinds of feelings go through her the moment she laid eyes on adam; anger, sadness, and nervousness. she was angry for obvious reasons, but sad because after so many years of being friends, how could they just stop? the only reason why she was anxious was because as much as she hated to admit it, she still wanted to hang out with him and was unsure of what to say. "i mean, we're just going christmas shopping, right? unless you already finished yours, then i'm quite impressed."

She blinked, head tilting slightly, as she glanced up from the stack of homework she was grading. “It’s kinda weird to smile for no reason in public. People might think something was wrong with me.” She chuckled quietly, motioning to the stack of papers laid out in front of her. “If I was upset, though, it’d be because parents insist on doing their children’s homework for them. I don’t mind collaborations because, at their age, it’s pretty much mandatory but just doing it for them doesn’t do them any favors in the long run.”

callie glanced at the papers spread out, which she just realized and was slightly surprised by them. that and surprised because of how she only noticed it when they were pointed out. "do you really think it’s odd? because i don’t. you should be happy if you’re happy. who cares whether or not people think you’re weird for that?" upon hearing her name being called, she went right up to it quickly before coming back to her to continue their conversation. “how old are these kids? i get it though, you want the kids to be a bit more independent and not have to continue asking the parents to do all the work. right?”
