Major Depression
Major Depression, also known as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), is a serious mental health condition characterized by persistent and intense feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in nearly all activities. This mood disorder significantly affects a person’s daily life, impairing their ability to function at work, school, or in social settings.
Symptoms of Major Depression can include:
Emotional Symptoms: Persistent sadness, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, loss of interest in previously enjoyable activities, irritability, or crying spells.
Physical Symptoms: Changes in appetite or weight, sleep disturbances (insomnia or hypersomnia), fatigue, and unexplained aches and pains.
Cognitive Symptoms: Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, or remembering details, along with recurrent thoughts of death or suicide.
Treatment often involves a combination of antidepressant medications, psychotherapy (such as cognitive-behavioral therapy), and lifestyle changes. Early intervention and appropriate treatment are crucial for managing symptoms and improving quality of life.
