Title: Mended Coat
Artist: Helene Ossipov, USA
Techniques used: Sashiko with gold thread on cotton knit
Statement: “This project comes from a happy series of coincidences. I had read about kintsugi, a Japanese repair technique with gold and sashiko embroidery, a Japanese technique of mending textiles. I had a coat with small holes in it. I used one strand of DMC gold floss, with black interfacing on the back to support the stitches. The stitching invokes sashiko rather than being true sashiko stitching.”
