Idea 1. A map with a note mentioning the difference between "true north" and"the magnet"
Idea 2. The part of Omoo when Melville describes what 'dead reckoning' is
Idea 3. Frederick Douglass figuring out which way north is by remembering which ships he heard were headed to northern cities and then watching them sail out of port
Synthesis = ?????

Reading all the posts about how kids arent learning how to read makes me want to be illiterate so i can go through what kids go through now and see the difference. I loved spelling tests so much i bet it would be fun

it's actually important to be conscious of your reliance on machines to do things you could do yourself in general, and make sure you're still engaging your brain when you have the opportunity.
for example, don't always turn the navigation on in your car when you know where you're going. or when you know you're going someplace you could figure out how to get to on your own, just do it. sometimes you want to see the traffic or alternate routes or whatever, but it's good to make your brain do the work sometimes, too.
another way to exercise your brain is to observe random things in your environment and ask yourself questions about why something is the way it is and figure it out for yourself. even for stupid little things. you'll always feel good when putting your critical thinking cap on.

Yes, the USPS delivers the 'last mile' in rural areas. A lot of the traffic through rural post offices is Amazon packages. But I imagine if the USPS disappeared the other services would just start going the last mile.
Open to constructive criticism but what if instead of subsidizing the USPS, we instead switched to a system of mail vouchers / universal postage stamps for low income people? This would keep the system fair and competitive while looking after poor people who rely on the mail.
