MM1 + MM2 Robot Master Genders(tm)

Ive wanted to infodump about my headcanons for genders for the mm1+2 (mostly 1 sowwy) for a while now and im FINALLY DOING IT

All purely my headcanons for my uh... au? Interp of Classic Megaman?? ... Scatterverse????? Idk whatever you wanna call it

So the first line designed by Light was always meant to be fairly gender-neutral. The "man" suffix wasn't intended to imply every bot was male, but rather was meant to be derived from human, and meant to embody the fact that the robot masters are meant to work alongside humans.

Though, as designs came along and the bots began interacting with the world around them, they found that things just sort of defaulted to more masculine presentations for the bots, and in most eyes they're all considered pretty male

As time went on though, the DLN were definitely way "looser" when it came to playing with gender than the DWN. They were very much encouraged by Dr. Light to explore their own identities and what things meant for them, and so there's a lot more fluidity in how the DLN present themselves

Cutman (he/him) doesn't really care about gender, but is chill with being called he/him or masculine terms. Doesn't really care to label his gender- MAYBE nonbinary if he HAD to choose a label but like he really doesn't care to label it

Gutsman (he/him) definitely the most "cis" of the bunch but also the biggest trans ally on the entire planet. Certified Transphobe Puncher(tm)

Iceman (he/they) Like Cut, doesn't really care for gender, but feels that demiboy is the closest label to how they feel about themself

Bombman (he/she) If there are "rules" for gender then she is determined to break every single one. Torn between id-ing as bigender or genderpunk... definitely leaning towards genderpunk

Fireman (he/him) Like Guts, also very "cis" but also supremely enthusiastic about being an ally. He specifically practiced using your pronouns extensively so he could surprise you with getting it right next time he sees you

Elecman (he/him) "Cis" but like. "If gender is a performance, I'm going for a Tony". Super gender non-conforming and loves playing with gender presentations. 100% does drag and loves it

Timeman (they/them) Agender. Thinks identifying with a binary gender is stupid because they are a machine that doesn't have a sex. Frustrated why Oil won't explain what they mean with his own gender identity

Oilman (he/they) "I'm nonbinary, but in a boy way." Will refuse to elaborate if you ask him what that means. Drives Time insane with this

The DWN are a lot more "rigid" on their genders. Created to be weapons and not companions, they see way less point in "playing" with gender. Gender is a social construct, and the DWN very much want to tear society down so like. Yeah. They don't understand gender let alone gender nonconformity. They're all very masculine in presentation and gender identity.

THAT being SAID I have 2 exceptions to this and their names are Quickman and Bubbleman

So Quickman (he/him) was originally built to be a female bot, but due to naming conventions giving all bots the -man suffix (see above), Quick's name was always Quickman. The only female bot of the line, Quick had trouble feeling "right" in his frame, especially when all of his linemates were much more male-presenting.

For reasons he couldn't explain at the time, Quick decided to "pretend" to be a male bot during the events of mm2, and like- Quick being treated like a boy by the Lights was an instant shot of gender euphoria through his circuits and there has been no going back since.

Very shortly post-mm2, Quick came out to the others about being a boy now and they were all shockingly cool about it. Because no one other than Wily and the mm2 bots knew, they were very secretive about it, very much a "we take this to our graves" response, and as a result Quick was actually super closeted as a trans man. Everyone else (even the other Wily bots) were under the impression that Quick was cis for the longest time

Later down the line, though, Bubbleman (they/them) starts playing around with gender, and eventually comes out to the mm2 bots about being nonbinary. Again, they're received well, but Bubble runs into a different problem than Quick.

The general public always thought Quick was a boy, so Quick had no problems being perceived as his gender. Bubble was always known as a boy before presenting as enby though, and isn't received as well as Quick in some public spaces. Bubble will even get bullied over being enby by some transphobes, which really destroys their self confidence

After having enough of this, Quick decides to start being a lot more open about his trans identity in public spaces, and is much more vocal about his own experiences. He absolutely doesn't do this because of the transphobes, no they can all eat shit. He does this to try and give Bubble more of a safe space to be around. If Quick can be publicly proud about his identity, maybe that can help his linemate feel more comfortable being themself too

As a result, Quick and Bubble actually end up being, like, super close, and it's sweet. and i love them. a lot.

Sadly no, because of how I've decided to draw them...Snake man's snake jaw and his big ol forehead will physically get in the way. Toad man doesn't even have a mouth!

Alternatively, maybe their animal heads are their actual faces and they bonk foreheads to kiss. (Aw!)

This is my way of saying IDK how these guys would kiss. So I'll probably never draw it, because i genuinely have no idea. Which I honestly don't mind because in my hc robots show affection in different ways.

(Like caressing faces, cuddles and handholding. Yeah, humans do that too but to robots it's a much bigger deal. Holding hands for a long time? It's equivalent to making out for them. Getting caught cuddling is very scandalous and no one wants to see you holding your partner's face in public!)

3rd Numbers Job headcanons!!

Because what's the use of a robot if not to endlessly work?! At least they get paid.

Needle man:

Mainly works in the mines, digging away...everyday. That's all he's compatible with, sometimes he works with Drill man or Jewel man but usually he's just alone down there...

He's neutral about his job, he's used to the solitude and darkness.

Sometimes he stays there for a few nights, but he'll always be back home for the weekend. (He likes the weekend, it's his knitting time :D)

His dream job is managing an etsy shop where he sells handmade stuff, but that's more of a pipedream he has.

Magnet Man:

Works in scrap yard...not much to say. Junk man goes there a lot, he tried his best to avoid him at first but eventually they kinda became friends. Junk man isn't allowed to be there but Magnet is willing to turn a blind eye.

He's okay with his job, he can't really complain. He even has a buddy there!

He has a standard workday, usually he arrives home first. Just in time to help Shadow make dinner, unfortunately not all of them will even show up...

Gemini man:

...He struggles to find work. He exclusively works part time for various places as security. Usually construction sites or abandoned buildings... If he's lucky, he works at nicer places like banks or hotels. But it's pretty rare since those places will usually have their own security bots, Gemini man is more like temporary security for places that still lack a proper security system.

He HATES it. He hates it so much. Usually he doesn't even care to guard properly, he just does all he can to pass time. Lately, he's been binging a bunch of drama shows.

He usually has the night shift and arrives home in the morning, exhausted. Luckily, the house is pretty quiet since everyone else is at work (Except for Top Man and Shadow Man) so he can sleep pretty peacefully. He misses eating meals with everyone else though. At least Shadow prepares meals for him for when he gets home in the morning :D

Hard man:

Works in construction of course, along with Construction Gang™. Consistently works with Guts Man, who's basically his mentor. (Especially when it comes to socialising with other bots!)

He enjoys it, but socialising with so many people is draining sometimes.

His ass runs back home as soon as the workday is over. Sometimes, he gets invited to the bar, he usually doesn't want to but Guts Man is good at convincing him. Then before he knows it, Guts man is too drunk to walk back home...so he has to help him get back to Dr. Light's lab. Then it's usually already late, so he just sleeps over there.

The Light numbers are pretty used to his presence now, they appreciate him helping Guts man out. Sometimes someone will be like "Oh Guts man aren't you embarrassed your junior has to help you out like that?"

And Hard man just sits there awkwardly not knowing what to say there...

(Yes i was inspired by Rock man san)

Top man:

His ass is UNEMPLOYED! Sadly, no one needs a Top robot unless it's new years. He quite literally only works once a year. He'll join ice skating competitions to earn some prize money, but he's pretty broke overall. (Usually he just asks for money from the rest of his brothers...lol)

He's tried being an influencer, he's somewhat popular but he doesn't make much money...also the stress of trying to get views is hard on him. Deep down he feels inferior to all his brothers, he wishes he was more useful.

That's why he dedicates his online presence to trying to educate humans about robot masters, so that maybe he could influence humans to treat robots better, thus giving his brothers a better experience.

Snake Man:

While Gemini doesn't get enough jobs, Snake man gets way too many. Snake man and his search snake system is pretty valuable in multiple industries.

Mainly he's used for surveying the topography of caves. Unfortunately, the caves are usually not in Japan! So he's forced to go on a lot of business trips. It's rare for him to get a job that's actually in the area. Unless some natural disaster happens, he's pretty useful for search and rescue. Usually he works with Search Man to find victims, but it's not everyday such a disaster happens.

Snake man enjoys the solitude but he doesn't like all the people he has to meet and work with...(How dare they expect him to trust some person he just met to explore a cave with?!)

Sometimes he'll be gone for long periods of time, for months even. The jobs usually slow down as winter starts...unfortunately winter is also when Snake man hibernates. So overall, they barely get to spend time with him! How does this man maintain his relationships? Easy, he doesn't :D

Spark man:

Of course, he works in energy management! He works with Elec man, his mentor, and all the other electric robots I can't bother to list rn!

He loves his job, he has friends! He's good at his job! Life is great!

Though he works a lot of overtime, sometimes has the night shift and he's probably overworked...like all the robots in power management probably are. But he's overall pretty happy.

Shadow man:

Just like his dear brother Top man, this man is unemployed. Unlike Top man though, he chooses to be a housekeeper. It's the least he can do to repay the 3rd numbers for taking him in. At first he was GOD AWFUL at cooking, but eventually he got better! Magnet man was glad to have someone else actually good at cooking in the house!

Shadow man is just enjoying life honestly, his brothers give him an allowance, but the thing is they don't coordinate it so he'll just get a bunch of money randomly. Usually he goes out for walks, he admires the earth's natural beauty...the little things are beautiful to him.

Top man brings him to places to properly experience earth stuff, though of all the things they've done together Shadow man is particularly obsessed with chess.

He's terrible at it, he's way too impulsive but that's exactly why he likes it. He wants to get better at it, he dreams of beating all his brothers at chess someday.

Bonus Headcanon: All robot masters naturally know chess and usually will have an average skill level of it. Though it varies based on personality. Shadow man has a harder time with it since...he literally hasn't seen it before, he's starting from scratch!

3rd numbers creation headcanons!!!

We all know both Dr. Wily and Dr.Light made the third numbers, but making all 7 robots together at the same time isn't very efficient. So I'm gonna expand on that.

First off, Dr. Wily made Needle man while Dr.Light made Magnet man.

After that, they worked together on making Gemini man because of his cloning technology. Dr. Light was happy with the results, but Dr. Wily not so much. He believed that the technology could be even more efficient, but they didn't have time to dwell on a single robot.

Then they spent their time dwelling on a single robot, Hard man. It was tough because of how heavy his body is, normal robot legs just weren't able to support everything. Not only that, he needed enough power to fly for a few seconds because he can't jump normally.

(Wily took the time to secretly add time powers to Hard man...which is why everything freezes when he hits the ground despite it being in the air. It only works for a few seconds because it takes too much energy and he doesn't even realise he has them..just a silly hc of mine)

And then they spent more time working on a singular robot...Top man! Luckily he had no complications, so Dr. Light even trusted Dr. Wily to finish him while he started work on Spark man.

So while Dr. Light worked on Spark man, Dr. Wily found an opportunity to improve upon Gemini man's technology...and rub it in Light's face! And so, he made Snake man. Why is he a snake? Because Dr. Wily wanted to make him stand out among the 3rd numbers. He even gave him red eyes to make him more unique! He truly does stand out among them...which definitely doesn't make him feel like an outsider in his own line....haha yeah.

Dr. Wily and his understanding of colour theory...It all worked out until Top man and Snake man found an abandoned robot somewhere. Wily fixed it and named him Shadow man!

They didn't actually need an 8th robot because they only needed 7 more energy crystals. They already had one at the lab, so Shadow man just helped around the lab a little...until Wily ordered him to take the energy crystal and fly to space.

Oh and a bonus headcanon...

Snake man and Spark man were completed exactly on their deadline, so they didn't get time to socialise with their fellow linemates before actually going to space. Dr. Light and Dr. Wily were sure that no problems would arise from that...

They were wrong. Very wrong.

One is avoidant and the other is anxiously attached...and they decided to choose eachother for company.

Remember, always socialise your robots before sending them out to space...

My dumbest headcanon is that Slash Man likes to say ‘my dad is a Stardroid’ to random people just because he was based on Pluto.

He knows that saying something like that has consequences but doesn’t care because ‘haha funny joke goes brr’ and overall I headcanon him to have a very chaotic energy because of his wild nature.

He doesn’t actually consider Pluto his dad. He just likes to see who would actually believe him, like that one kid on the playground who insisted that his dad was Bill Gates, except in this situation, it’s real.

Lots of people on the poll talking about robot ids going hand in hand with how humans/ companies use them, which is really interesting! It’s cool seeing how human society interacts/ reacts to advanced robots. But I mostly think about this as how a robot interacts with human society not vice versa. I’m just sitting over here like, in the downtime between games and end of the world bullshit, could a robot rent a car? Or buy real estate? Could they travel between countries for work or pleasure? Just what kind of bureaucracy would they have to jump through. Or would they not even have the autonomy to make those decisions for themselves and be dragged from place to place by their employers as if they’re “luggage”. Cuz idk the difference between whether robotics (and human society’s perception and laws regarding inorganic life) has advanced enough to even require identification and paperwork out of the decisions made by an advanced robot really seems like something to me. I’m a bit tired so I don’t know if this makes sense, but yeah it gets me thinking a bit. I do find it interesting that so many people have been calling attention to robotic identification being used to track, judge, and control the lives of robots though. Seeing really interesting results 👍

I wish people treat obviously grown characters with just very joyful personalities as their age, than them being toddlers or rather purely innocent beings.

They can be involved with other adult activities (besides sex, poker, partying, etc). It makes it seem as if they’re not capable of those things…

Thinking about Spark Man, who comes to mind . He can drink a thing or two (still relatively lightweight). He slips up and says “shit” or other common curses sometimes when he messes up (which is more than uncommon).

I said I would and I am so I’m posting five Mega Man related headcanons:

1. Any room Flash Man stays in for an extended period of time (at least 200 hours) becomes frozen in time. This means that the room becomes slippery as if it has been literally frozen, and the time between entering the room and exiting will be negligible, even if you spend hours in there. As a result, Flash Man has a poor perception of time, and is generally unaware of this unless reminded, due to not knowing which seconds were real. The only way for the room to unfreeze is for Flash Man to not enter that room for another 200 hours.

2. Elec Man sleeps with his eyes open. His general diligence for everything has led him to not closing his eyes when sleeping as he wants to be ready for any possible event. At least, that’s what Elec Man will say. In truth, Elec Man sleeping with his eyes open is just a random personality quirk.

3. Quick Man is the type of introvert to pretend to be an extrovert. However, he leaves conversations quite abruptly due to being tired with the conversation as soon as it begins. He tends to avoid others, though he doesn’t do this consciously, as he wants to be seen as sociable since it’s more cool in his eyes. His limit for conversation is about three minutes per conversation, to which something will suddenly come up.

4. Heat Man is mostly laid back and apathetic, but when fire is involved, he does a complete 180 in personality. He will suddenly become interested in the topic and quite energetic if it means he can burn something or watch a fire. He swears he isn’t a pyromaniac though.

5. Gravity Man will always land on his feet when falling from a height. He still tends to trip over random things though.
