yemi was beginning to think that romance wasn't something that he was meant to experience, seeing as how the last two romantic entanglements that he had engaged in had only ended in failure. he wasn't sure what about him it was that made it impossible for things to work out with the other two people. although that wasn't to say that things ended on bad terms.. at least not with both of the failed attempts at romance. while he was still very good friends with robby and there wasn't any awkwardness between the two of them, he couldn't say the same for his dynamic with sebastian.
the two of them had gone out on a few dates, and while he liked sebby and he felt as though they got along well, things just didn't work out. that wasn't what was upsetting him about the situation though. the thing that upset him the most was how it ended. he could respect someone's decision to walk away from things or end things if they weren't feeling it, but he at least wanted some kind of communication. it just ended up being radio silence. that is, until that day.
the older male sat there a little awkwardly as he avoided sebastian's gaze, his fingertips tapping against the mug of hot coffee in his hands. they had decided to meet up at a close by cafe - just to talk. it was the first time he'd seen sebby face to face in quite a while, and he could practically feel the awkward tension in the air.
"um.. how have you been?" the question was asked in english.

yemi didn't consider himself to be a jealous or envious person. when the people around him made achievements and reached goals they had set for themselves, he was happy for them. he loved to see the people around him win and move on to bigger and better things. however, in the same breath, he would be lying if he tried to say that the feeling wasn't bittersweet. he had been working so hard for the past two years, and to see the people around him receive opportunities to debut while he didn't hurt quite a bit.
in fact, it quite literally kept him awake at night. he continuously searched his mind for reasons why he hadn't been given the opportunity to debut yet. it was a tedious and mentally draining habit that he constantly tried to put a stop to, but couldn't help but fall right back into it. yemi knew that there wasn't anything he could do to help his situation; at least not anything more that he could do. he was already busting his ass training and doing evaluations - it was out of his hands, and he had to accept that.
and he couldn't show that to his friends that were currently in the process of debuting. he didn't want to rain on anyone's parade, or be a negative spot on their day. which was why he was all smiles as he plopped down on the bench next to chaeri, holding out a cup of hot chocolate towards her. "good afternoon, miss soon-to-be idol," he greeted cheekily. "i'm glad i could pull you away from your busy schedule and steal some of your time."

as much as ayemi was a musician at heart, his entire life revolving around music - especially after becoming a trainee, fashion still had a special place in his heart. what, with his mother being a former supermodel, he was introduced to the fashion world even sooner than he was introduced to the music world. he enjoyed shopping and coming up with different color schemes and outfits to put together. it was another outlet of creativity for him, much like music was. expressing himself through fashion was an activity he shared with his mother, the two of them often going on shopping trips with one another.
however, sometimes he extended his shopping excursions to other friends of his. some of them weren't as receptive or excitable as he was when it came to shopping, but there were a few that were - yejun being one of them. the two trainees met sometime during the course of their time as trainees, and while yejun was on the path to debut sooner than yemi was, he didn't feel jealous or envious of him. in fact, he was happy for him - he just wished that his time would come soon too.
"what about this?" yemi questioned, holding up a shirt that gave off the streetwear vibe that the other male was going for. "i saw a jacket a few aisles over that could work with this too. it definitely gives off the nineties vibe that you talked about earlier."

yemi rolled his eyes at the other's words, letting out a small scoff. "i wouldn't have to mother you if you properly took care of yourself, now would i?" he asked rhetorically, raising an eyebrow up at him while shaking his head. that was ayemi's love language - taking care of the people he loved, acts of service. he liked making sure that the people he cared about had everything that they needed and were well looked after. and seeing as how they were cousins, he was even more worried about the shorter male's wellbeing.
"i've been doing alright. just busy with evaluations and training.. you know, the usual stuff. i've been doing a little bit of writing too." he tried to squeeze at least a few moments to an hour's worth of writing in once a day. even if nothing good came from it, the practice was always good to have. especially if he wanted to someday create music for the world to hear.
as much as yemi loved music and he wanted to debut soon, he was a little bit frustrated that it took time away from his personal relationships, especially his relationship with his cousin. "i missed you too." a soft smile spread across his face when niel hugged him, quickly returning the embrace and giving him a gentle squeeze.
"you ready to head to the cafe? it's just a few blocks away." he nodded in the direction of their destination, before he began walking, shoving his hands into the pockets of his jacket. "so what's been going on? any word on a possible debut for you in the future?"
niel's first trip to south korea had been a bit of whirlwind, between visiting family members who he had never met before and quickly becoming an idol trainee. but he very fondly remembered his first meeting with ayemi. the two of them had been born less than a year apart so of course they'd been encouraged to get along. and niel had very quickly decided that his older cousin (well, second cousin if you wanted to be specific about it) was his favorite person in the world. and that hadn't changed even with somewhat limited chances to see each other.
so whenever ayemi asked if niel wanted to go out niel made sure to make time for it. it had gotten harder to see each other now that they were both trainees but it was a little bit easier than when niel had been an idol. only by the smallest margin though.
niel smiled as ayemi peppered him with questions. "yes, mom, don't worry i'm eating fine." he teased lightly. he knew that yemi's questions and worry came from a place of love, and that he had a lot of it towards his family. he was still smiling even as ayemi adjusted niel's unzipped jacket.
"how are you, hyung?" niel asked hugging the older male tightly in greeting. yemi expressed his love through fretting but niel expressed his through physical affection. it was second nature for him at this point. "i missed you." they were in the same umbrella company but it was surprising how little they managed to see each other being under different sub-labels.

family was something that was always important to ayemi. from a young age, he had wanted nothing more than to have a close knit relationship with his relatives and the people around him. even though there were quite a few family members of his that had made it quite clear that if they didn't share blood, they wouldn't be so willing to be in his presence, there were those who loved him all the same. one of those family members being nathaniel. the two of them had first met a little later in life, when ayemi was around thirteen years old or so, and had clicked instantly for the most part. and ever since then, niel had become the older male's closest and dearest cousin.
despite their closeness, the two of them didn't get many opportunities to spend time with one another. what with niel starting his career as an idol in a short lived group some years ago, and even though the group was no longer around, they still had little to no free time. both were trainees, and with the intense trainee schedules they had to adhere to, finding opportunities to visit his little cousin were few and far between.
which was why he didn't hesitate to jump at the opportunity to see niel when it arose. not wanting to be stuck in his apartment during his free time, he invited the younger male out for a quick bite to eat before they set out for another destination.
"ah, it's been too long, niel! how are you? are they treating you well? are you eating properly?" he asked once his cousin had met up with him outside so they could start the short trek to the cafe they would be eating at. "it's chilly out here, niel. zip up your jacket," he gently chastised, his fingers zipping up the other's coat before making sure his neck was properly protected from the chill in the air.

his parents were two successful people in their own right, and together they created a form of life through their love. his father, kim seungkwan, was born into a chaebol family and went on to take over the family company once he came into adulthood. his mother, aduka isime, however had come into her own in a much different way. she was born into a middle class family, not rich but not poor either. given her good looks and tall stature, it was no surprise that his mother became a model quite early on in her lifetime. within the first few years of her career, she became a very highly sought after and requested fashion model, which led to her and seungkwan meeting.
it was fashion week in new york city during the mid nineties when they first met. aduka was just nineteen at the time and seungkwan was twenty-one. seungkwan was there on vacation with a few friends and when one of those friends had connections to get into a fashion week runway show as an audience member it was only a matter of time before his parents met, and they hit it off almost immediately after meeting for the first time. seungkwan was charming and wooed aduka not too long after that. by the time autumn of that year rolled around the two of them were an official couple.
it was a relationship that neither of their families really approved of. with both families being very traditional and having conservative views, seungkwan and aduka's parents would have much rather their children marry within their own cultural and ethnic backgrounds, but the two young lovers didn’t care about that. they refused to leave one another, even when their families threatened to cut them off financially and disown them. they were in love and were happy together even if the ones around them weren’t happy.
with that said, their families didn’t end up cutting both of them off, but they did end up stopping frequent and casual contact, only speaking to them when absolutely necessary. fortunately for aduka, she still had a stable career as a model. seungkwan on the other hand struggled a little bit, but only until he was able to get his own business off the ground and running using the connections he had formed while working as an employee at his family’s company. after a year or two of hard work, they were both doing very well for themselves.
just three years after that, they announced aduka's pregnancy with a baby boy. her career had spanned quite a few years by that point and at the age of twenty seven she was ready to start a family with seungkwan. or at least she thought that she was. seungkwan was more than happy to start a family with her and after making sure all the right pieces were in place, they went forth with their plans.
on june twenty fifth, nine years after the pair met, kim ayemi was born in seoul, south korea. the spitting image of his mother with a few of his father’s features, he was the apple of both of his parents’ eyes. they treated him like a little prince, doting on him and giving him everything he could possibly want or need.
his relationship with his father's side of the father was rather strained, considering their disapproval of his parents' relationship. however, he did grow rather close to his cousins and the younger people in his family, the ones who weren't caught up in their biases.
there was one cousin in particular that he was close to. a cousin of his that debuted as an idol when yemi was quite young, just seven years old. his cousin was the lead vocal, sub rapper and face of her group, and while the group didn’t make it to the top tier rankings, they did good enough to stay active for the full length of their contract. it was from her that yemi first began to get into music. he liked singing and rapping especially, and would oftentimes find himself mimicking his older cousin’s dance moves and group performances in his bedroom mirror.
it was at this same cousin’s encouragement that yemi tred to audition for a company. she knew how much yemi admired her career and seemed to like it, so she wanted to support him in his interests and encourage him to put himself out there. yemi had never been the most confident so he was hesitant to do it at first, but after having a long conversation with his parents, he decided at the age of seventeen that he wanted to audition for different companies. and that was how he ended up joining ace.
singing and performance are his strongest suits, however he does enjoy rapping quite a bit and he likes to dabble in songwriting a little bit. he spends a lot of time writing song lyrics and such in his notebooks, trying to build up his lyricism skills to the best of his abilities.
