hypothetical scenario but relating to the cartoon , this variant of arktos would simply be the older , scarier , shadow side that lurks in the forbidden chamber & judges his counterpart's every move .

in relation to his "redemption verse ," arktos would not accept himself as " a good guy now . " if fact , if someone asked him whether he thought that , he'd laugh in their face .

the truth is , arktos does not need the approval of others to say what he is & isn't . he won't go out of his way to prove how good he is now , nor will he bend over backwards to avoid the consequences of his actions . ( when you've been burned alive as many times as he has... ) it's a mix of him believing he's above the mortal's understanding of good & evil ( that & he doesn't GIVE two cents ) but also ... he KNOWS he's despicable . he thrives in spreading his cold all over the globe & he's old enough & has enough self respect to recognize this .

that being said ... just because he doesn't think he's any " better , " that doesn't really mean he isn't . his old habits are still there , ruthless & cunning as he is , but he's fair...er . his relationship w/ his staff & citizens gets better , & he only sends his frosts to greenland during the winter months , & finds it strangely delightful seeing the little beasts marvel at the gently falling snowflakes . not to mention he's a better father to lilli & generally looks after tblga since they're allies now ( albiet , they still bump heads- but they still have a lot that they can learn from each other )

& not to mention there's an indescribable warmth in his chest that flares up every now & then & instead of feeling pain & fear he feels full .

theoretically-- in this iteration , while arktos WOULD take a backseat in season 2 , he would grow increasingly & increasingly fed up with humsin's bs before ultimately doing everyone a favor .

is it any wonder why so many of them are servants in his estate ? perhaps there's an air of endearment in the way arktos sneers about them , though in a manner that feel like wind cutting to the bone .

“ let me tell you something about loyalty , ” says the mad king . just a little insight from an old man . he can be generous , you know .

the implication is quite obvious , he should think . the ancient quiets , leaning back on his iron throne as if thinking . his icy fingers tap on the armrest before he snaps , calling that sniveling wretch to fetch him a drink .

“ i get a new one every so often , ” arktos admits , scoffing . “ he's the most loyal i've had yet . ”

it’s always “don’t be afraid to be yourself!” and “you’re perfect just the way you are!” until you drive ONE bitch to madness by revealing your true eldritch form and then suddenly it’s all “put those extra limbs away!” and “nobody should have that many eyes!” and “it hurts to even look at you!” i’m so sick of these double standards
