I can't think of anything amazing right now, but I did start thinking about those sentence prompts that some people do where you have a sentence and then you make a story with it if you know what kind of thing I'm talking about. Anyway, this is my prompt: "Please don't do this to me" Blackice. Can be angst or fluff. Or a bit of both.
oooohh this is actually a great writing exercises!! i feel like i got a bit rambly in this one but it's good for me to practice doing smaller scenes like this. mostly angst in this one but i tried to put some softness in the middle
。・゚・☆・゚・。
“Please don’t do this to me.”
Pitch stared down at the shivering, whimpering frost sprite at his feet. Light and laughter had fled from the boy’s eyes, their color dulled to that of a stormy sky. Tendrils of shadow were creeping up, up, and around his snow white throat, staining him grey.
“Please,” Jack begged, blackened hands clutching at Pitch’s robe.
The King of Nightmares did not reply to the last-ditch pleas of the Guardian. He simply stood, and he watched. And he felt nothing. Not when the shadows swallowed up Jack’s voice, or when they spilled across his eyes and blinded him.
He watched until the boy was still and silent at his feet, and he waited.
Jack’s eyes shot open, glowing pure white.
.
Pain is what finally dragged Pitch back into his body.
His hands throbbed, the sensation concentrated in a line that cut across the bottom of his palm. As his eyes peeled open, he saw his own dark blood drying beneath his fingernails.
The image of Jack, swallowed by darkness, made him wince. It wasn’t the first time the Shadows had threatened Jack indirectly, and it wouldn’t be the last. This particular threat was more unsettling than any others, though.
Remembering the utter lack of emotion he’d felt in the dream as Jack was possessed had Pitch’s hands trembling. Some part of him knew it was just the influence of the nightmare, but he still wondered. What would he do if that scenario came true? Would he try and stop the Shadows from turning Jack to the darkness permanently? Or would he watch as he had in the dream, knowing it was the only way to assure Jack would only ever belong to him?
Pitch drew in a sharp breath, forcing his fingers to uncurl from where they’d been pressing into the wounds on his palm. Fresh blood welled up from a few of the cuts.
The bed shifted behind him. A pale, freezing arm dropped over his side, curling just enough to pull a small body flush with his back.
Jack mumbled something unintelligible against Pitch’s spine, clearly still fast asleep. His arm tensed, pulling them even closer for a moment before he relaxed fully with a final huffed-out breath. Frost spread over Pitch’s shoulderblade each time the boy exhaled.
Watching the near-glowing white arm go limp around his midsection, Pitch had his answer. Curling his hands into tight balls, he kept the oozing blood contained where it wouldn’t spoil the perfect, snowy creature that had decided to share his bed.
He’d be having a chat with the Nightmare bold enough to invade his sleep. Later.
Now, he focused on the brush of soft hair against his back, the press of a cold nose. He studied each freckle and scar on the arm draped over him, committing them to memory. And he made a new vow with each one he found. A vow to protect Jack’s laugh. To leave his light unsullied. To never let him go.
Pitch squeezed his eyes shut, thinking of the locket hidden in the drawer of his nightstand.
He vowed to do better than last time.

The Hidden Tragedy of Snape's Sacrifice is He Died at 20, Not 38
Where does the idea of selfish Severus Snape and his possessive love come from? Do people really believe that Snape died in the Shrieking Shack at 38, at the hands of Voldemort? Do they honestly think that, until he was 38, he lived a normal, happy life, full of hope and dreams, right up until that last minute when everything was suddenly ripped away from him?
Snape didn’t just die in that moment. His life ended 18 years earlier, when he was 20 years old, standing on a hill in front of Dumbledore. That’s when he gave up everything—his freedom, his future, and his life—in exchange for the safety of the Potter family: James, Lily, and Harry.
From that moment on, Snape no longer lived for himself. He had no control over his own fate; his life had been bargained away to protect others. Every step he took after that was part of a long, ongoing sacrifice.
People say they don’t like Snape because he didn’t make up for his mistakes the way he should have, that his redemption arc wasn’t complete. Excuse me? I’m not sure what more a person can give than their life. What’s more precious than their time and youth? What’s more important than their freedom? Snape sacrificed all of that—what else did he even have left to give?
He was barely out of his teenage years when he chose to give up everything—his youth, his dreams, his ambitions, even his loyalty—for people who didn’t care about him. Yet, Snape stayed on that path with unwavering courage for the next 18 years, never backing down.
In truth, Severus Snape was a boy who lost his life at 20. The only thing is, they didn’t bury him until he was 38.

Lately I've been pondering alot on footwear in the wizarding/wixen world...
There's so much to tap into fashion wise...like what the hell does just "robes" even mean Terf-face McRowling????
And I feel like the fan base has done such a wonderful job to portray their own beautiful and unique designs and descriptions... but not so much on shoes 🤔
Like the most generic thing is for them to be walking around in muggle shoes or "loafers" or "dragonhide boots"....
Hell no. These mfs are walking around rocking THESE bad bois!!!
✨️S L I P P E R S✨️
At least for dress robes, formal wear, and those who are fun, fancy biatches on the daily......

(staff room, afternoon)
McGonagall: ... Why does Filius keep looking at you in such a strange manner, Severus?
Snape: (sipping coffee whilst marking) I don't know what you mean.
McGonagall: Why, he keeps glancing at you, as though he's afraid you're about to drop dead any moment.
Snape:
Snape: ...I may or may not have informed Filius about the function of the liver and lungs yesterday evening.
McGonagall:
McGonagall: ...I don't see how that-
Snape: I told him that my organs must be practically decomposed from myself breathing in toxic fumes and testing potions since an adolescent. Then, of course, as Potion's Master. I suspect that from that moment onwards, Filius wholeheartedly believes that I am mortally ill.
McGonagall:
Snape: What? Did you really think repeatedly making poisons and draughts of living death isn't going to have consequences on my health?
Snape: *coughs loudly*
Flitwick: (watery sniffling from behind piles of marking at the other table)
Snape: *smirks*
McGonagall:
McGonagall: You are despicable.
Snape: I am completely and utterly hilarious, Minerva.

Sans has only one sentry station
On Right Floor 2 of Hotland, the human encounters Sans selling hot dogs (illegally) out of his sentry station booth. We know that it is a sentry station specifically because Papyrus calls it that in his phone call.
Now one of Sans’ hot dog clients remarks that the presence of snow on Sans’ roof appears odd, but dismisses the presence of the snow as Sans being “too lazy to clear it off.” This might suggest that magic is at work, keeping snow on the roof of a building which is in an environment much too hot for snow. However, being as monsters seem to be the instigators of magic, and since Sans is someone who has bone-based magic, it seems unlikely that someone would use magic to keep snow on the roof.
Another explanation for why snow exists on the roof of the sentry station is that… it is the same sentry station as the one in Snowdin. Sans only has one sentry station total. It simply gets teleported around wherever Sans needs it to be.
The evidence I have for this theory begins with the fact all four of Sans’ sentry stations - in Snowdin, Waterfall, and Hotland - have snow on the roof.
The majority of the time, Sans’ work would be in Snowdin. The purpose of the sentry job, as Sans himself describes in his second meal with Frisk, is to be on the watch for humans. Humans would be emerging out of the Ruins given past experience with the last six souls, and all the other sentries and guards have stations in Snowdin and nowhere else. Sans speaks of how boring his work is, in which that work would be waiting for a human to appear in Snowdin Forest. Last and most notably, Sans and Papyrus both speak about the large amount of time Sans spends at the Ruins door (doing knock-knock jokes with Toriel). Sans spends the majority of his time in a cold temperature environment.
This means that Sans’ station’s default location would be in Snowdin, where it could get snow on the roof easily and naturally. Then, when Sans teleports the sentry station to another location, it would teleport with the snow that accrued on its roof from Snowdin Forest. The reason why there is snow on the station’s roof in Hotland therefore would be that the station has not been in Hotland long enough for the snow on its roof to melt.
It is to be noted that Sans’ station has a unique design compared to the other sentry stations, suggesting that whenever we see this peculiar snow-topped building, it is for Sans and Sans alone. The other dogs’ sentry stations (and Papyrus’ station) have different appearances than Sans’. This might mean it is less likely for more than one building of Sans’ design to be made.
But the main reason why more sentry stations like Sans’ would not be made is because sentries only seem to work in Snowdin near the Ruins. There are a large number of Royal Guards in Snowdin Forest stationed out in what seems like the middle of nowhere, waiting for humans. While there are Royal Guard members in Hotland (none in Waterfall because they have Undyne), these guards do not appear to have a station, but simply stand guard and respond to calls as needed. It thus seems there is need for sentry stations except in Snowdin Forest. There would be no good logical reason to build a permanent sentry station on the road to Waterfall or random locations in Hotland.
We know that Sans can teleport. He does it on screen right in front of your eyes during the Genocide Route when he warns you you’re going to have a bad time ™. If he can teleport, perhaps it is also possible for him to teleport his sentry station with him. The reason he would teleport the station is so that he can be a sentry… keeping an eye out for the human… Frisk… who actually happens to now be in Waterfall or Hotland.
There are a few challenges to consider with this hypothesis. First, one has to consider how monsters talk about the sentry station in Waterfall.
When the human sees Sans’ station at Waterfall, his response is, “what? haven’t you seen a guy with two jobs before?” This response suggests Sans has two distinct jobs - one job working at a station in Snowdin, another job working at a different station in Waterfall. Furthermore, Papyrus’ phone call for that room says, “My brother has a station here. Yes, he mans two stations at once. Amazing, isn’t he? He slacks off twice as much as normal!!” Both of these comments suggest that Sans operates two distinct stations, allegedly two different buildings.
However, Sans’ word is rarely completely trustworthy. He tends to slide around information, and Papyrus himself admits, “Sans never tells anybody anything!” (phone call, room_water11). There are moments where Sans intentionally bypasses telling people facts. To provide one example, when Papyrus asks how Sans and Alphys know one another at the end of the True Pacifist Route, Sans simply suggests that everyone knows him without actually answering the question. Sans, asking, “what? haven’t you seen a guy with two jobs before?” could be another way of Sans sliding out from telling all the details. It could very well be the case Sans has simply moved the same sentry station to a different location.
As far as what Papyrus is saying, it could be the case Sans has two areas to monitor, but that it is still the same building. This would not be an inconsistent idea. It also seems to help the fact that Papyrus, in Hotland, remarks that “Sans is at his station” - suggesting a singular station.
(And if we aren’t fully comfortable positing that from Papyrus’ words, we can always fall back to the point that Sans has obviously lied to even people he cares about, including Toriel and his brother in various Neutral Endings. It could be the case Papyrus is somewhat incorrect about the fact Sans “man[s] two stations” at the same time because of misinformation and not knowing everything about his brother).
So I think all of that works out fine. We can explain Sans’ and Papyrus’ comments about the station in Waterfall under the idea that there is only one sentry station.
Undyne’s phone call comments are not problematic to the idea Sans’ station might be one station:
“This is Papyrus’s brother’s station. I’m always catching him slacking off, or sleeping… But his results are JUST good enough to not fire him. Well, except today. He didn’t tell me ANYTHING about you.”
Undyne’s words, in a way, actually suggest Sans has only one station. She doesn’t say “This is one of Papyrus’s brother’s station.” She just introduces it as “This is Papyrus’s brother’s station.”
A second potential challenge to my idea is that Papyrus talks about Sans’ station in Waterfall as though it is a regular location for that station. To return again to Papyrus’ phone call about the Waterfall station, he starts by saying, “My brother has a station here. Yes, he mans two stations at once.” Even if Sans happens to not be completely honest to Papyrus about his teleportation or work or whatever, Papyrus would know Sans’ habits. Papyrus’ words suggest that this is a regular location for the station to appear.
I do not think it is weird to say that the majority of the time, the sentry station is at Snowdin, but it also makes semi-regular appearances at this part of Waterfall. It is, after all, very close to Snowdin proper, and Sans likes to hop into town to get a bite at Grillby’s. This could very well be a somewhat-normal location for the sentry station. It just spends more time at Snowdin, and thus regularly gets snow on its roof.
The last potential challenge for my hypothesis regards Undyne. When she chases Frisk, she stops and berates Sans for falling asleep at his station. She seems angry that Sans is asleep, not surprised at his location. However, I think this would only indicate that Undyne knows Sans (and his station) frequently move locations, or that she is so much more upset about him being asleep on the job (AGAIN!) that she does not think through the location.
I could be making a whole lot out of one simple detail - aka, snow is on Sans’ sentry station wherever he is. However, it does nicely explain why there always is snow on the roof, and it doesn’t seem to clash against anything else in canon. I contend that Sans’ sentry station has some fun teleportation times along with the sentry.

In which Harry takes a wrong turn chasing down Bellatrix in the Ministry, and typical tomarry time travel ensues. Only in this fic, Voldemort follows Harry back into the past.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Voldemort surveys the wreckage of the Time Room with a strange mix of dismay and disappointment. Potter’s nowhere in sight, and neither is the prophecy. Rogers is present, though, his head aging and deaging cyclically.
Voldemort eyes him curiously for a split-second, but he has no time to study this odd phenomena now. He summons a pinch of time sand from amidst the shattered remains of the time turners and enchants it, then summons Rogers’ panicking form over to him.
“Be still,” he orders, then, with a flick of his wand, sends the sand spinning around Rogers’ face. It sinks into the Death Eater’s skin, and at last the transformation stops, leaving Rogers as the adult he should be.
“My Lord!” the man gasps. “Thank you, thank you, I—”
“Enough,” Voldemort hisses. “Where is Potter?”
Rogers pales. “He—he—Bellatrix—they were fighting and he just—he vanished, I don’t know—”
Voldemort grabs Rogers by the jaw, yanking him close, digging his nails into the man’s skin. “Lord Voldemort does not have time for pathetic stammering. Show me.” He doesn’t bother securing the Death Eater's permission before diving into the man’s mind.
Voldemort pushes Rogers away once he’s finished, letting him fall to the floor. Voldemort observes the room, casting several charms to detect traces of magic. Despite a moment of dismay at the possible loss of Bella, he’s tempted to believe Potter has vaporized himself by messing about with such turbulent magic. The boy's disappearance would certainly make Voldemort's circumstances easier, but he had so wanted to demonstrate his superiority before his followers.
“My Lord,” comes Lucius’s voice from behind him, and Voldemort turns to find Lucius dropping into a kneel in the Time Room’s doorway. “The Aurors have been alerted to our presence.” Lucius keeps his head down, so he misses the quick look of perplexity that crosses Voldemort’s face.
“Did you do something to your hair, Lucius?” Voldemort whispers. From another, the question would sound flippant, teasing perhaps. From him, it sounds terrifying, and rightfully so. Something in the universe has gone terribly wrong.
Lucius looks up haltingly. “No, my Lord.”
Voldemort stares. “You are telling me that your hair has always been brown and curly,” he says lightly.
“Yes, my Lord.” Lucius’ voice shakes.
Voldemort directs his gaze to Rogers, who has copied Lucius’ kneel. “Rogers? Is that so?”
Rogers’ gaze darts between Voldemort and Lucius, trying and failing to hide his bewilderment. “Y-yes, my Lord,” says Rogers. “As long as I have known him.”
Salazar preserve him. “Your parentage, Malfoy. Tell me.’
“…Abraxas Malfoy and Miranda Percell,” Lucius stammers.
Miranda Percell. Voldemort only vaguely recalls the name from his schoolboy days.
He turns his back on Lucius and Rogers to observe the Time Room. “Guard the room,” he tells them. “Let no one in at any cost.” He steps inside, repairs the door, and casts a variety of locking and secrecy charms on it, effectively sealing himself inside indefinitely.
He’s going to need as much time as possible if he’s to figure out how to stop this madness.
Potter’s rewriting history.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
The Department of Mysteries Division of Time only sees true time travelers once every decade or so, and thank Merlin for that, because they are usually major divas who think that the world revolves around their personal (and frankly, incredibly overinflated) tragedies.
Greg had only just handled the most recent time traveler a month ago (maaaaybe unofficially, but who could blame him? The paperwork alone would have had him working overtime for years if he'd have had kept the incident entirely above board), so he’s quite looking forward to a quiet, uninterrupted decade of intellectual exploration and experimentation. At last, some damn peace around here. Now the real work can be done--and he can get home on time! His Kneazle might finally stop tearing up his furniture in retaliation for his tardiness.
So when a new time traveler arrives with a bang that sends Greg’s equipment flying mid-setup (thankfully contained within its own wards, but still entirely disrupted), Greg curses violently. And only ten minutes before the end of his shift, too! He should really assign himself some new hours.
“Merlin’s tits! Goddamnit shit balls! Circe herself better hold me back, the next time traveler who thinks their inane crisis is my problem is going to—is going to…” He stumbles on his words. His newest traveler, a handsome man with aristocratic, dark-haired features and remarkably vivid burgundy eyes, is holding a wand to Greg’s throat.
“Do you often receive time travelers in this department?” the man asks him quietly, casual as can be, as if he isn’t holding Greg at wandpoint.
“Not usually, no,” Greg answers hesitantly, internally cursing his foul luck. This one probably came from some post-apocalyptic hellscape he’s trying to prevent, given how quickly he’s turned to violence. In Greg’s experience, this type is far too mercurial to be trusted.
“Recently, then?” asks the man, arching an elegant eyebrow.
“Maybe,” answers Greg. There’s no way this man could be from the same future as last month’s traveler. That would be impossible.... Right? “Why?” Greg asks, ideas churning. What if it is possible? Why, if the two travelers are so connected as to cross time and all its variables to reach each other, figuring out the how of it could be the breakthrough of the century—nay, the millennia!
“I’m looking for a boy. About sixteen years of—”
“Goes by Harry?” Greg asks quickly, excitement making his hands twitch. “Lightning bolt scar on his forehead?”
The man smiles dazzlingly, and for a moment, Greg forgets that there’s still a wand at his throat. “That’s the one,” says the man, looking an odd mix of ecstatic and relieved.
“You must be the godfather,” says Greg, flipping open his notebook. “You must tell me everything. This is entirely unprecedented in the world of transtemporal migration. When—”
The man holds up a hand. “I’ll happily tell you everything, but first, I need to see the boy—Harry. I need to make sure he’s okay. Surely you understand?” The man says it so earnestly that Greg nearly scoffs. Time travelers and their Merlin bedamned emotions. The traveler clearly won’t tell Greg anything useful until his silly sentimentality has been satisfied.
“Fine,” Greg says with a put-upon sigh. “Let’s get your new identity sorted out first; then I’ll take you to him.” Greg summons his book of spare identities. “I’ve already set the boy up as the son of two Muggleborns, so I suppose it would be a bit much to set you up as the same.” He turns a page. “How do you feel about being a halfblood?” Greg looks up to see the time traveler watching him intently. His gaze, unblinking and still, is rather unnerving actually. “Say, aren’t you supposed to be dead?” Greg asks.
“Many would certainly hope so,” says the traveler. “You’ve provided more than enough assistance, Greg. I’ll take it from here." And before Greg can realize what's happening, the traveler murmurs, "Obliviate.”

This was born from an amazing Discord chat from months and months ago, the screenshots of which are... somewhere lost on my hard drive, hopefully (curse you, OneDrive and your stupid storage!). Idk how far I'll get on this fic because it's kinda my brain empty but I must write backburner for when I get stuck on other stuff, but I think it'll be fun. Pretty lighthearted, too. Well. I say lighthearted. Which means it will start lighthearted and then devolve into angsty angst with a heavy side of comic relief, probably.
Who knows lol. We'll see!

Since we fans of the Tom Riddle era have little material, I thought I would help. Whenever I read a fanfic about this era, it's pretty messy because we don't have many canon characters and we put in all the blacks there are, so this is a list of students in Tom's years (based on canon).
Tom's year (students born in 1926 and 1927) ↓
- Tom Riddle (1926)
- Rosier (1926)
- Lestrange (1927)
- Avery (1926)
- Abraxas Malfoy (1927)
- Alphard Black ( possibly 1926/1927. As far as we know, Alphard was not in Tom's gang, but he could have been in his year, since he is younger than Walburga and Walburga is older than Tom.)
- Nott (1926/27 Or 1925? I edited this again, it is not known when Nott was born so he could be older than Tom by a year just like Walburga or be in his year)
- Mulciber (The same as Nott, they are the only ones whose date of birth is not mentioned, but they were from that time and were part of the Knights of Walpurgis.)
- Walden Macnair (I put him here because it is revealed that he was one of Voldemort's first Death Eaters and he does not have a date of birth in the search, so there are possibilities that they studied at the same time.)
- Dolohov (I put him here because in THBP Dumbledore mentions him among the Death Eaters who accompanied Tom when he went to ask for the position of defense professor.)
- Druella Rosier (???? His date of birth does not appear, if she had been in Tom's year, it means that she is at least 11 years older than Cygnus)
- Araminta Meliflua (She was a cousin of Walburga and her siblings, her date of birth is not stated but perhaps they were from the same year or a younger year.)
(students born in 1929 / 1928 / 1930) ↓
- Orion Black (1929)
- Myrtle Warren (1929)
- Rubius Hagrid (1928)
- Olive Hornby (1929, I guess it doesn't say her date of birth.)
- Alastor Moody (1930?? It does not say his date of birth, but he graduated in 1948.)
- Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank (It says she was born in 1930 or before.)
- Septimus Weasley (1930 or before)
- Eileen Prince (1929/30)
(students born in 1925) ↓
- Walburga Black
- Ignatius Prewett (possibly 1925; he was Lucrecia's husband, but the search does not say his date of birth, it could have been older or younger.)
- Lucretia Black
I update this every time I discover something new.

not to be insane but in a realistic tomarry/harrymort fic with good characterization it’s very difficult for them to not change one another.
a good fic acknowledges that harry only survives their canon interactions (and overall, his many different in-story challenges) from being tricky and clever. like it or not, harry is much weaker in magic, strength, mind, and political influence than voldemort.
so when he’s getting out of the third task, he doesn’t win, he cheats. when he’s getting out of malfoy manor, he doesn’t win, he calls dobby and gets out though a minor oversight. he doesn’t defeat umbridge in a dual, he instead helps run a covert defense club and repeatedly goes under her nose to do what he wants!! he doesn’t save sirius in book 3 because he fought peter and won, he used a time turner (albeit with help), broke ministry rules without anyone else knowing (bar hermione and dumbledore) and saved him.
that’s so slytherin!!!
it is my belief that Voldemort thus inadvertently pushes Harry to be more cunning. Harry is at his most slytherin during his daring but clever escapes from Voldemort and the indirect issues caused by Voldemort.
though it has less text evidence, i would also go so far to throw out that because of how pissed off Harry makes voldemort, it’s the same in reverse. Harry pushes Voldemort to be more reckless and daring in his effort to capture/kill him, as if a gryffindor.
i guess there’s a lot of poetry there. the more polarized they get from one another, the more alike they become. as they clash, they transform themselves into the other.
idk

cannot stop thinking about that meta that’s like “voldemort’s ultimate goal was to simply destroy the british wizarding world” because it makes so much sense. tom riddle was a poor, orphaned, assumed muggleborn boy with a (most likely) ‘commoner’ accent and a distaste for humanity who sorted into slytherin, the hogwarts house infamous for being filled with loud rich bigots. tom riddle, with his background, could not have possibly been very popular those first few years of his schooling. tom riddle would’ve loathed the lot of them, all those arrogant, spoiled rich kids boasting about their family line. finding out he was the heir of slytherin would have been both a relief (he has something to fit in) and a jackpot (if they knew, they’d bow before him). and he uses that heritage later, when ‘tom riddle’ has disappeared and a stranger called ‘voldemort’ appears in his place. the fanatics literally kiss his feet.
voldemort is canonically a genius. he would’ve known that non-magical blood doesn’t make you dirty or less talented, because he himself is the prime example of that. espousing the bigoted pureblood agenda was simply the easiest way to gain power over the ones in power—all to send society crumbling to the ground from the inside. he takes over the ministry and ruins it, taking the first steps in tearing down the establishment; he kills regardless of blood, implying he doesn’t give one flying fuck what your heritage is; he tries to destroy the sorting hat, which would render the concept of ‘houses’ void.
personally i think it’s very interesting and appealing to put this interpretation in the context of tomarry/harrymort. i’ve always HC’d that harry will grow tired when he’s older, after he’s saved the wizarding world once (at the expense of his own happiness and well-being) and sees that nothing has changed or will change. that voldemort was a symptom, not the disease. that he and hermione and ron keep struggling, working themselves to the bone to make their world more fair and to suppress and eradicate the rampant underlying bigotry, but that it just won’t take.
and with an older harry, an embittered one, turned caustic and cynical by the very world he once viewed as his sanctuary—i don’t really think their beliefs would differ all that much. they’ve both seen and experienced the injustices. they’re both annoyed and disenchanted. harry will always have a regard for life, and voldemort won’t ever, but if anyone would have a wish to tear society down and build it back up again it’s them both.

2024 Update to Tomarrymort Longfic Recs — 8 additional fics
I wanted to add 8 lovely new longfics that have been published since the last time I put together this rec list — 6 more for the Intermediate reads list and 2 more for Advanced. Hopefully you’ll find something within these additional 950k words of absolutely brilliant Tomarrymort fic to sink your teeth into and enjoy:
Longfic rec list collection:
Tomarrymort Beginner reads are the fics I would use to introduce someone to the ship and help them get a baseline for the variety, themes, and tropes that best represent our ship;
Intermediate reads are for readers that are already familiar/sold on the ship, and are looking for fics that explore interesting new facets of the Tomarrymort dynamic;
Advanced reads comprise challenging works of some nature, whether the writing features more complex subject matter and/or pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in a piece of fanfic.
Please enjoy these 8 additions to the list, all of which are either completed or still updating as of 2024!
*
Intermediate Longfic Recs
A Light That Never Goes Out by @kippipies (M, 80k, WIP)
Setting: Non-Magical AU Premise: If Harry is the target of a dangerous crime lord called Voldemort and his gang of Death Eaters in a modern mafia AU. Why I rec it: This is a delightful, high-energy caper of a fic in which Harry is a scrappy low-time criminal who accidentally crosses crime boss Voldemort. Naturally, Voldemort sets his sights on getting revenge, but Harry slips through his fingers at the last minute each time. The action scenes in this fic are incredibly dynamic and super fun — I felt like I was watching an action movie at each confrontation between Harry and Voldemort.
And the Living Will Envy the Dead by @k-s-morgan (M, 81k, WIP)
Setting: Time Travel (1940s) Premise: If Harry were flung back in time to Tom’s sixth year and almost immediately reveals he is Tom’s horcrux, setting off a chain reaction of obsession and control. Why I rec it: An intricately crafted character study of Tom and how he gained control over the rest of Slytherin House by the time Harry meets him at the start of sixth year. Harry’s arrival throws Tom’s plans off-kilter, especially once Harry reveals he was Tom’s horcrux in another timeline. This leads Tom to believe the other version of him had somehow loved Harry, and shows him that it’s possible to form such a connection with Harry here if he wants, despite how dark, cruel, and violent he turned out and how little he cares for others.
By Any Means by @corpium (E, 74k, WIP)
Setting: Alternate Universe Premise: If Harry has a younger brother Evan who is the Boy-Who-Lived, yet Harry’s overprotective actions towards Evan end up attracting the attention of Voldemort directly onto himself. Why I rec it: This is a really engaging and fast-paced adaptation of canon events if Harry were born 2 years earlier and his younger brother were the one that the prophecy applied to. The relationship between Harry and Evan is really sweet, as they share the burden of growing up at the Dursleys and all the adventures that Harry underwent in canon. There’s also such a fascinating exploration of magic as Harry gradually becomes more powerful as a result of all the trials that he’s put through, eventually becoming powerful enough to attract the attention of Voldemort.
Pledged by @moontearpensfic (E, 118k, WIP)
Setting: Alternate Universe Premise: If Harry and Tom are best friends that enter together into a Hunger Games-crossed-with-Triwizard Tournament in their seventh year. Why I rec it: This fic depicts co-dependency to such an intense degree between Harry and Tom. Not only are they inseparable best friends throughout their time at Hogwarts, they also perform a cooperative magic ritual that binds their magic to each other permanently, and allows them to share thoughts and feelings with each other across a mental link. There’s also an intriguing mystery at the heart of this story, as Harry and Tom try to figure out the origins of the Triwizard-style tournament that they enter into in their seventh year.
Revolution of Configured Stars by @tollingreminiscentbells (E, 153k, WIP)
Setting: Voldemort Wins AU Premise: If Harry was raised in a pureblood family in a universe where Voldemort wins, and ends up attracting the attention of Voldemort in his seventh year at Hogwarts. Why I rec it: This is such an intricate, incredibly thoughtful depiction of a society where Voldemort won and Harry was raised as a ward of a pureblood family. By the time it’s Harry’s seventh year, he’s a budding Arithmancy scholar who wants to explore whether it’s possible to choose the optimal timeline via arithmantic calculations, which catches the attention of Voldemort. Voldemort and Harry’s relationship unfolds in such a steamy way, and they truly feel like equals who hold each other in high regard, as Voldemort reveals that they have been inextricably linked by fate, whether or not he ended up trying to kill Harry as a baby in this particular timeline.
the stars, my destination by @milkandmoon-ao3 (M, 15k, WIP)
Setting: Time Travel (Marauders Era) Premise: If Harry is sent back in time as an infant and adopted into the Potter family, growing up and attending Hogwarts alongside James. Why I rec it: There is a dearth of Harrymort fics set in Marauders Era so it is such a delight to read about Harry’s friendships and rivalries with Marauders Era characters, like being best friends with Regulus and Quidditch rivals with James. As Harry starts his sixth year, the First Wizarding War heats up in the background and begins spilling into their life at Hogwarts as many of their classmates are recruited to fight on either side of it. All the while that he has to keep secret the strange mental connection that he’s had with the Dark Lord all his life.

Advanced Longfic Recs
Hearthstone Abbey (Series) by @ramabear (E, 152k, WIP series)
Setting: Soulmate AU Premise: If second year Harry is plucked away from his canon universe by Voldemort from another universe who is his soulmate. Why I rec it: I wholly melted at all the ways Voldemort takes care of Harry in this fic, better treatment than Harry’s ever gotten in his entire life, and Harry is so lovable and adorable in turn. Voldemort has established himself as a religious figurehead/cult leader in the alternate universe, and it was very interesting to read about his alternate path to power. The soft grooming in this fic was so so delicious, ramping up in intensity as the fic progresses; Voldemort completely dotes on Harry and their dynamic is so sweet and tender, a very nice counterbalance to the sinister and predatory tones that underlie their relationship.
if we were lovers by @reggieblk (E, 277k, complete)
Setting: Non-Magical AU Premise: If Harry and Tom meet in a prestigious drama programme and fall for each other against a backdrop of high stakes threatre productions. Why I rec it: The character work is so rich and detailed in this coming-of-age story in a modern AU setting. It’s clear there was so much thought that went into all the character interactions here, not only between Harry and Tom, but also the ensemble cast of characters who inject so much heart and humor into this story as well. I love the way that @reggieblk cleverly weaves in elements from Shakespeare’s plays and uses the theatre backdrop to depict how the love story between Harry and Tom unfolds — their developing relationship feels, at the same time, both very immersive and cozy, as well as highly fraught with tension. (As a bonus, there is an absolutely amazing original play in the interlude chapter that was written specifically for this fic!)

listen i get ppl are deeply into the whole “voldemort is far more powerful than harry”-thing because yeah, he is, but i also think harry should be allowed to bully him extensively. ‘powerplay this’, ‘powerplay that’ no! harry has no urge to be more powerful than voldemort! harry just wants to bully him!
doesn’t matter if harry ends up on his arm or through some convoluted fanfic logic in his head during the events of the series after he passes. harry’s sole goal is Ridicule The Dark Lord. he reminds voldemort daily that he got beaten by 1) a baby, 2) an 11yo boy with fire hands (apparently), 3) a 12yo boy with a sword and one (1) fang, 4) a 14yo boy who could run really quickly, and 5) a 17yo, malnourished, exhausted boy with a borrowed wand. he tells voldemort repeatedly that vee’s 15yo self bragged to harry’s 12yo self (no sword or fang yet) that he decided on his name change via anagram, like it’s cool. he reminds voldemort often that “lord flight from death” is a bit on the nose for a new name. he always says that whatever voldemort does is “no friend behaviour”. he tells voldemort things like “you know all of your followers except bella and barty would sell you to the devil for one corn chip right” and voldemort, without fail, will think “NO. THAT’S THE THING I’M SENSITIVE ABOUT”. he’s yelling “HA CRINGEE” about everything voldemort does. it’s devastating.

This Week (x2) in Tomarrymort (11 – 24 October 2024)
Bundling 2 weeks’ worth of updates together, sorry for missing last week! In terms of ship happenings, @exquisite-tomarrymort-telephone has been posting a series of fics loosely interconnected by prompts, which started this week and will wrap up next week.
As before, please feel free to add some extra context to your fic update in the reblog, ie, a little bit about the chapter(s) updated, and I’ll throw it in the update for next week. See below for a recap of the author notes from last week:
friend of the devil (a friend of mine) by @shyinsunlight (E, 17k, WIP) “Red flags are good party decorations, and love can be blind if you keep your eyes shut tight enough. Rodolphus discovers team spirit, and Abraxas finds that his home is no longer his castle.” a pound of flesh by @ictyn (M, 21k, WIP) “Harry, trapped and undying in his own mutilated corpse, must turn inward to find his salvation. Inside his very soul is the key to annoying his nemesis into returning for him. In the end, he'd much rather lose his mind to torture than to eternal boredom.” the precarity of virgin souls by @izharmilgram (M, 4k, complete) “The second part to on line sex & rabbit stew. It includes dueling, cooking (the rabbit stew!), a first kiss, manipulation, and a horcrux reveal.” the alchemy by @cindle-writes (E, 2k, WIP) “A college AU rom-com wherein Harry is the star of the college baseball team, and tries to convince Tom to go on one, just one, date with him.” Anytime, Anywhere, Always by @moontearpensfic (E, 18k, WIP) “In this last update of AAA, Tom explores how he feels about his attachment to Harry. Very fluffy chapter!” Infinite by @moontearpensfic (E, 4k, WIP) “Infinite is a prequel fic to Love, Murder, Horcrux. In chapter one, the boys start their first year of Hogwarts together, and Harry is Sorted Slytherin. I love playing with the dynamics of Harry in Slytherin House in the 90s! We usually see it in time travel fics, but it's great to explore it here.”
I’ll also highlight newly completed multi-chaptered fics, as it’s a wonderful thing to celebrate with the authors as their work comes to an end! 🎉
Part One - The Solitude of Suffering by @iseliljathedreamer (M, 187k, complete) Many things are different and many are the same as Harry begins his fifth year at Hogwarts. Here, living with Dursleys that aren't just neglectful but outright abusive made Harry unable to withstand more than a few weeks of Trelawney's "predictions" back in his third year. Instead, he took Ancient Runes, and uncovered that he had a prodigious knack for runic magic, which opened the door to the darkest of rituals and the magic of mind and soul. A year later, Harry uncovered something horrible within himself - a parasite. So, when Voldemort sends him dreams of corridors and doors, Harry sends him pieces of hell in return.

Tomarrymort Recs by aethon 🐍
Hi! Thank you for your interest in this blog 🤍 This is a rec blog focused exclusively on Tomarrymort recs.
If you're looking for Tomarrymort rec lists, keep reading! I will keep this master list of links updated as I post more rec lists to this blog.
*
My standard list of rec list disclaimers:
• Please mind all tags and warnings on AO3 before reading (including CCNTW, explanation here). I strive to include a balance of themes and a diverse range of fic genres and ratings in my rec lists, so you'll come across lighter fare such as fluff and crack fics, along with fics that may cover darker themes. • Recs are always listed in alphabetical order by title. • Because I'm reccing Tomarrymort ship fics (all ratings from G through E) rather than gen fics, I aim to find fics where both characters in the ship are a meaningful part of the story; there isn't significant focus dedicated to side ships for Harry or Tom before getting to the endgame ship; and the Tomarrymort ship is central to the story. • Finally, this blog is not a fic-finding blog, but please visit our friends at @findingtomarrymort if you're having trouble locating a specific fic!

Hermione: Okay — He’s a 10, but he kills people, calls his sycophants ‘Death Eaters’, and hasn’t gotten over his rather specific fear of babies. Harry: Hmm… and what’s my pet name? Hermione, sighing in dismay: He calls you ‘Darling’- Harry: Smash — we don’t need kids.
