On twitter I’m seeing dozens of threads from Black activists warning people against burnout, giving all sorts of useful tips about preventing and managing it for the sake of a long-term, sustainable effort.
On tumblr I’m seeing a hell of a lot of young white kids yelling at anyone who actually follows those steps, and acting like burnout is a moral falling rather than a well-proven psychological phenomenon.
Be careful who you get your information from. Don’t let guilt lead you to make choices that will harm both you and the movement.

At Target this lady told her son he couldn’t have a Wonder Woman doll because “that’s for girls” and then bought her daughter the same one. It got me thinking about how often I see people bar young boys from appreciating girls/women as protagonists and heroes, and my own experience with it as a kid.

I usually avoid making comics like this, but I've been pretty pissed about this lately. It's my money, let me do what I want with it.

August 27
I'll be the first to admit it - if you were to tell me the events over the course of the past year, I'd say you were making shit up. Gods actually existing, and gods as in the plural? And people being able to swap bodies at the worst possible time because of some weird divine bet? I guess the book of Job had a point - the gods play dice.
Sorry, forgot to introduce myself. My friends call me Nick, and my parents call me Nickolaas Aleiver if they're pissed at me about something. My childhood friend Shae got dragged into this whole mess, and she had some harsh words for the gods involved. Cogen was particularly contrite about the whole thing, while Avine ... If you asked me, Avine was more upset they lost the bet.
You've probably read manga like this plot. The main characters get freaked out, then start exploring their new bodies, often with such bad timing that there has to be a TV Tropes page about it. Shae and I had a talk about boundaries and such, and it was thanks to the whole ordeal that Shae was comfortable calling herself a lesbian. Me? I'm competing with her in that dating pool and nowhere else.
Anyway, the gods. Super apologetic in the long run. Even our teachers and some classmates got involved with trying to deal with the switching, helping us make sure we were caught up. One upside for the whole thing was that we managed to get some of our credits done simultaneously so we're technically seniors.
Right, the gods. Cogen figured out how to get the swaps to stop happening, since it was their fault it started. Something about a heavenly version of a character creation screen - not sure I like the implications of that.
I'm looking forward to this school year being a little more normal.
September 15
I hear an alarm go off, but it sounds different than normal. It's not my MCR playlist, but the chimes of those old-timey alarm clocks. The ones with the bells and the hammer smackin' them super fast.
Shae's alarm clock.
Why am I in Shae's room?
I get up out of bed, groggy, and look for the nearest mirror.
In the haze of waking up, I see a feminine figure.
Fuck.
I hunt down Shae's phone. Night stand, where she usually leaves it, and of course it's at 50% battery. She never charges it. I unlock the phone and pull up "Nick's" number in the call history. A few rings, and a groggy, questioning hello.
"Did we switch again?"
"What do you m-"
"Shae, did we switch bodies again? I need to find those two shitty gods and give them a piece of my mind for this half-baked, short-term fix they call-"
"Shae, what are you talking about?"
My blood runs cold.
"... say that again."
"... what do you m-"
"SAY THAT SENTENCE. AGAIN."
"Uh ..." The other voice is hesitant. Confused. Starting to sound scared. "Shae ... what are you talking about?"
We need to find those gods.

Imagine your standard high school gender swap supernatural romantic comedy with all the tropes that come with. You have the gods get involved with trying to figure out what happened and ultimately, with some hiccups, there is a permanent fix.
Or so you thought.
What happens, then, when one of the protagonists wakes up and thinks that the body swap happened again, only to learn that the person they previously swapped with did not experience any changes? In fact, they didn't even swap?

I resent how many people, in discussing trans healthcare bans, jump directly to “they don’t perform these surgeries on minors” because 1.) while correct, trans kids should be allowed to get surgery and 2.) it tacitly says “only adults should be allowed to do the icky gross things”
Trans bodies are not shameful. Trans surgery is not shameful. Start thinking before you fucking speak.
