"Oh thats so cute and sweet." Dolores glanced over to see what the book was, nodding as if she knew but really she just wanted to tuck it away for now.

Dolores couldn't help but feel a little insecure with books of non fiction and poetry that her slow burn romance with hiking and a grumpy male lead wouldn't be received as well.

But it was her favourite.

"And the illustrations look beautiful! I can't wait to read more and learn more? Maybe I could use it in some of my classes too."

If Penny broke u with her because she didn't like being out in the limelight with a girl, Dolores would give her a stern talking to!

The party was hopping- well as hopping as a bunch of people getting books was, as people sipped on drinks and asked questions about all the books they had been given, had seen picked up.

She couldn't wait to spill all the cute moments that Snow would be able to read after she picked hers.

but the book Lo got- non fiction? She wasn't quite sure who- oh-

Dolores wanted to make sure Judy liked her, she wanted any and all of Jun's family to like her.

That meant she was of course getting a christmas gift. It wasn't anything big or major, a book that she had loved from book club.

But it was the thought that counted and why Dolores had asked Judy to get coffee and brunch at Hatter's.

Dolores had barely skimmed the article or the comments she saw the pictures, saw her cousin and she was already rushing through the house until she could knock on Mirabel's door over and over until she answered.

"oh my gosh you're dating an actress?? When did that happen??"

"You think so? Even if I make a mistake? If I get something wrong? What if it's like just showing that I didn't care enough. That I looked at the wrong sources. Maybe I didn't care enough?"

Of course she knew she would appreciate any effort Jun made but she was still scared.

"What would you do? More book research? Maybe I should ask people in town?"

“Ah, I see, I see.”

In that way, Pepa and Julieta had been lucky. Their husbands came from the same background as them. They knew the traditions. Even if some of the Magick specific ones were different, it did all come from a similar thread. 

As much as Pepa wanted to reassure Dolores that it wouldn’t matter and that Jun’s mom ought to appreciate that Dolores was going through this effort… well, Pepa knew that if she were the one in Dolores’s shoes, she would be nervous.

She’d been nervous in England up until very recently, after all! There was so much different. And this was even more different.

“I think they will be very touched that you’ve done all this research,” she said.

Dolores frowned, right now it never seemed like that would happen. Everyone would skirt around the subject. They would glance at one another. They would say it with their eyes but never with their words.

And for someone who heard basically everything. Who always listened.

She couldn't work with anything else.

"I guess so. We can't avoid the subject forever I don't think? Someone will have to say something. It's their son or brother."

Yes. She was sure everyone would talk- eventually.

"I hope so." But she didn't know how to fix any of this when no one would talk about it. Dolores just felt horrible for her Tio and her Mama and Tia.

No on deserved this. "I just thought it could be so simple, time would make everyone miss everything. A discussion could happen. And now no one will talk about him in general. It's just getting worse."

"A little bit? I'm going to help Jun's Mom with a little bit of the cooking. I don't think I'm helping host or anything but I'll definitely be there as Jun leads through all the ceremonies and things like that?

"I don't know how to refer to it, hence the research." She had seen a bit through her kdramas but honestly she needed more information.

"I didn't think so- Mama looked like she wanted him there, but Abuela was very mad he had been invited back without her knowing. And it sounds like everyone knows besides her." Dolores let out a small groan.

"It's so messy, now." And horrible, and sad and no one was talking about it.

And as much as Dolores wanted to meet Bruno- she didn't like how much it was hurting everyone.

Dolores pursed her lips, she knew she didn't have to talk about it, she shouldn't talk about it.

No one was talking about it.

But that was the thing- no one was talking about it.

"Do you remember me telling you about my Tio? About him being here. He showed up at my Mama and Papa's vow renewal. But I think he was invited, but also apparently most of the family knew besides Abuela?"

Dolores stated even though it sounded more like a question.

Bruno had shown up, everyone knew, and what Dolores had wanted and thought was a good thing had only seemed to fracture the family.

To make everyone worry.

And Dolores was worried, as everyone fretted and tip toed around each other.

She thought getting out of the house, a breath of fresh air would be good. She thought seeing Jun would distract her. And yet she couldn't help her own mind straying.

"Sorry sorry. I can't seem to focus."
