goreverine:
“Sure, buddy. I bet you’re their favorite.” Daken scoffs, rolls his eyes. “No, the slutty high-cut swimsuit look was definitely Ms. – Captain Marvel’s best look. Dr. Sofen made the right call.”
“Oh, whatever. I guess I’m attached to it now.” Obviously, neither of them want to have this conversation. He waves the suggestion off. He likes it more than Aaron, anyway. Two consecutive vowels are a mistake.
Now, him trying to be vague about his origin is what actually bothers him. He lifts his head up, closes his eyes, and loudly sighs.
“I don’t care if you were let out or broken out, you’re a fucking Sentinel bot. Functionally, it’s all the same to me.” He gestures widely at him. “You’re a danger. What other purpose is there to you other than killing? People don’t just conceive you things by accident. You’re not people.”
“Yeah, but she didn’t have the belly shirt part.” Aaron pointed out. “Poor tactical design on Carol’s part, but if Sofen wanted to go for accuracy... she didn’t do it well.”
Good thing there was no Dark Machine Man. He didn’t need to look at his past costumes.
“Sure, sure.” Aaron raised an eyebrow. “Why not Inu... or Ken... or something. Still has the dog and Japan motif. Actually, scrap that, my good ideas won’t be wasted on you.”
A loud sigh? Aww, Aaron was breaking through to him.
“You things? Robots?” Aaron laughed at that. Which was probably unnerving. “You think robots are only made to kill? Have you seen a Roomba? That thing the Fantastic Four parade around? Herbert or whatever? Use your head. I wasn’t created to be a Sentinel. I’m not even a Sentinel now. Come on.” Aaron rolled his eyes, but the lack of sclera or pupils made it hard to read that.
“And people call me cynical.”

“Your teammates don’t. You’d be the first thrown under the bus.” He flexes his fingers in front of his face, examines them. No, his fingernails are clean. What a dick.
The question he tosses is tactless, ignorant. He couldn’t imagine anything else coming from a robot, but he scowls anyway. “Wow, congratulations on accessing a translator. You’re almost as full-featured as my phone.”
Still, Daken directs a clear and true answer at him, knowing that the dig falls flat at the truth. “Racist children being cruel, referring to my mixed ancestry. I didn’t have any other name to take after my given name was revoked from me, so that was the one I used.” Well, until time healed that wound and he took up Akihiro regardless of Akihira’s despair at him killing his baby.
“Funny, huh? Hilarious.” He tilts his head. “I suppose one advantage of being a machine is not having a childhood for people to ruin.”
His eyes drag across Aaron’s form, trying to spot anything apparently dangerous about him. He doesn’t see anything at all. “They just slapped your ass at the factory and sent you out to kill, huh?”
“No. They wouldn’t.” A pause. “Most of them. Most of them wouldn’t.” Maybe the Captain and Tabby might, but Monica and Betsy definitely cared. “Maybe you can’t relate cause all your teams sucked. Bullseye? Moonstone? She didn’t even rip off Carol’s good outfits.”
“Ha, phone joke. Haven’t heard that one before.”
Oh, well, that’s actually kind of mean.
“Fleshy little terror sacks. Children are horrible.” Was that sympathy? Who knows. Not going to admit he nearly felt an iota of pity for a slight moment, he decided to just move on. “Make up a new one.” He shrugged. “People do it all the time. Spoiler alert, his name isn’t Iron Man.”
Apparently, Daken didn’t know what Aaron could do. “Who said I was let out?” He said, as if either of them cared about the air of mystery around his background. “And who said I was let out to kill?” He traced a finger under his eye, as if tracing a tear.
“Do I have no other purpose to you, Daken?”

“I’ll call that illogical,” he mumbles, shaking his head in disapproval. At this point, he’s pretty sure he’s engaging in this conversation just to be annoyed at this guy. His rhetoric pisses him off, that’s all; he supposes it’s to overcompensate for his little anti-mutant phase.
Daken sighs, exasperated by this discussion. “He looks good naked and bound, that’s all that matters.” Then he angrily sighs, and waves. “Look. The point is: People look at you and see you as infinitely more disposable than sentient, living creatures. I doubt any of the people who know you actually care about your livelihood, well-being… whatever.”
“Do you think your pseudo-life is worth more than an actual one? I mean, if you had to prioritize.”
Really, he’s looking for an in to spring his claws on him anyway; it would help to know how sincerely nonlethal he is.
Did this dude have sex with Hawkeye? Was Aaron jealous of that? Apparently they were done with this conversation, but it left Aaron with more questions than it answered. Or maybe it was a villain thing. Probably a villain thing.
Sounded kinda hot.
“If you’re trying to provoke me, I’ll have you know these are things I’m well aware of. Humanity, Inhumans, and mutant kind all value self preservation before anything else. That’s why you’ve evolved this far. It’s instinct. It’s not revolutionary for me to hear I won’t be valued as more than a machine, Daken.”
He shoved his hands in his pockets. “That being said,” He continued. “Yes, I believe my life is equal to any organic, fleshy life, and intend to preserve it for as long as I can.”
He ran through Daken in his head, computing the name.
“Who named you bastard dog?” He didn’t smirk, but internally, he was smirking. Time to get under his skin for once.

“I think I used to run at Tabby more than run with her, my memory’s a little sketchy but I don’t remember ever really bein’ on Boom-Boom’s good side.” Deadpool caught a laugh in the back of his throat, he’d forgotten the guy had a sense of humor between all those gears and circuits. “Oh yeah? If you were leadin’ the team, what would you have done different?”
“For starters, get a real heavy hitter. Get the Captain. Captain ☠☠☠☠, whatever he’s calling himself these days. Then we get any disillusioned Avenger, like... Silver Claw. Who knows what she’s doing. Who cares, even? But it’s good for PR, and she’ll probably be easier to coax into the whole beating the puss out of people for money. And get some more super powers. Hit Monkey and Ellie were all well and cool, but what about a disillusioned X-Kid who hates the world? Then, bam. Better team, more power, more press.”

“Boo fucking hoo. I’ve been torn and blown in half, too, and I’m not even a god.” Yes, they’re both aware of the hereditary gift of his powerful healing factor. No, he’s not going to amend that. “It’s so inconsequential, anyway. You’re talking about the death of one entity.”
That’s right: Talking about a single person’s death is pointless. It doesn’t matter if they’re a god or a human: If they’re dead, they’re dead just the same.
Daken stops in his tracks, and wipes a hand over his face. “Look: I don’t give a shit about the categorical differences between fake organisms. You don’t have a smell, I have no idea what’s going on under the lid. Yes, that bothers me. Happy? Content with that explanation?”
He can’t drug him, either.
“Also: Hawkeye is too handsome to be a janitor, so I still think it’s you. ‘Aaron.’”
Aaron made a mental note of that. If they were to fight... seemed like being, quote ‘torn and blown in half’ didn’t bother Daken that much. “Death of one entity, yes. Ironically enough, call me a humanist, I suppose.”
“I’m rarely happy, but the explanation will have to do for now, I suppose.” Another mental note. Daken seemed mad that he couldn’t smell what’s going on with Aaron. Not that it was anything particularly interesting, but seems like telepaths and... whatever Daken and Wolverine had a problem with his physiology. Good.
“Hawkeye? Really?” Aaron made a sour face. “If you’re talking Handsome Avengers... Hercules. Black Knight. Something with that Beard. Someone rugged. Hawkeye’s just a carny with a fixation on weapons. I’ll pass. Let him mop up.”

if he had not been stranded in an ARCHIAC time period, querl would have listed off every single one of his accomplishments and notable inventions.
but unfortunately the integrity of the time stream was far more important, so he settled for the next best thing.
❛ please. i am smarter than you. ❜
Oh, so this person was kind of a jerk too. He could deal with that.
Aaron put his hand on his chest.
“That hurts my feelings.” He lied.

@hatefulrobot liked this post & Deadpool is fishing for compliments.
“Look man, I know Domino was the leader when we ran on that team, but be honest, didn’t ya think I’d have done it all so much better?”
“I could tell you’d ran an outfit before. You used to run with Tabby back in the day, right? Or... something. But truthfully? You’d have both done better if you just listened to me. A common mistake everyone makes.”

in truth, it was not the how man’s eyes looked that bothered querl; it was just that he was looking at him.
❛ most people are idiots, ❜ he countered. ❛ i am not. ❜
Aaron shrugged. Maybe this green fleshy one was different.
Maybe.
“I can’t argue with that first part. Don’t know you well enough to argue the second.”

he collapsed the multi-tool for the time being, slipping it in one of the pouches on his belt. better to not be distracted when speaking with strangers who showed interest in his gear.
❛ … it is my design. i created it. the basic premise has existed in my family for generations, but i PERFECTED it. ❜
“No, they just...” A sigh. “Nevermind.”
Not that he needed to explain his physiology, but his eyes did attract a lot of attention. Perhaps it was the lack of a visible pupil or sclera.
“It’s impressive. Most organics I know couldn’t screw in a lightbulb if their life depended on it.”

“Ares was an intolerable asshole and nobody actually cares about Asgardians.” Daken scoffs, brushing it off. In truth, he still feels the awful sting of defeat and humiliation from the whole ordeal, but he’s not going to reveal that. “Big deal.”
“I don’t know. Maybe I have a technophilic fetish?” That’s delivered sardonically, with a roll of his eyes. “Or maybe it’s because I don’t like being judged by an artificial intelligence with former programming to eliminate my species? It could be that, but I don’t know.”
His lip curls, then, discomforted by the impression of Aaron trying to one-up him .“When you were on the Avengers, what did you do?” He looks him up and down, and barks a cruel laugh. “Make espresso? Be the Scarlet Witch’s back-up Hitachi? Janitorial duty?”
“Ares was an asshole, that’s a fair assessment. But it doesn’t warrant being ripped in half. You and I are both assholes and we haven’t been ripped in half.” Actually, Aaron’s been ripped in half and destroyed many times, but it doesn’t exactly kill him.
He doesn’t know how much that would effect Daken.
“It wasn’t exactly my idea to be a sentinel.” He didn’t owe an explanation to the man, but he could still we where he’s coming from. “I will say, however, that’s the most understandable thing you’ve said in this exchange. But you started this by saying, and I quote, ‘Could you at least attempt to smell more biological.’ That leads me to believe you had an issue with my existence before that.”
Aaron sighed. Of course, he was trying to get under his skin about being another artificial intelligence on the Avengers. “Vision is a synthezoid. I’m a robot. There’s a difference.” He said plainly. “I believe if anyone on the team was a janitor it should have been Hawkeye.”

Daken listens to him with amusement, but his smile falters at the mention of local crime databases. Of course. He should have known. His anonymity has been irreversibly damaged as of late.
Instead, he shrugs, putting on a disaffected veil. He lifts his hand up, in front of him, then curls it to examine his nails. “Oh, should I?” He tsks. “I just had a manicure.”
He puts his hand down and continues pacing, his expression darkening.
“You know, when I was on the Avengers,” he’s not going to qualify that, “We did ‘heroism’. We ‘beat up bad guys’. I was the real deal.” Well, they pantomimed heroism for the press while fulfilling Norman Osborn’s schemes. On a rare occasion, reality overlapped with fiction.
He’s speaking nearly to himself when his voice rises, already on the defensive. “You’re a fucking bot. Why do you even give a shit about morality and crime?”
“When I was on the Avengers we did the same thing, only we didn’t try to destroy Asgard, and one of our own didn’t rip a god in half.” This was said in a near monotone. He wasn’t involved in the Siege on Asgard and he was only peripherally involved in the Initiative before Osborn took it over.
“But we all lie to ourselves, don’t we.” Aaron said, his eyes moving to the side to observe Daken.
“Why do you care what I care?” He said, crossing his arms over his chest. “You seem to have an unhealthy fascination with me being a robot. What’s wrong? Have you seen the Matrix one too many times and it blew your small mind?”
