i operate under the firm belief that if the endless eight arc of the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya aired for the first time now, in 2023, it would perform INCREDIBLY well. i'm not even trying to claim that it's a masterpiece in storytelling or anything it's just like.. we're post-2020. the world is weird. anime culture especially is weird. we made up a whole ass scorcese movie based on shoes. a dadaist time loop arc of the same episode airing every week, except the shots and voice lines are redone every single time? it would be universally beloved. everyone would be in on the bit. the arc was just fifteen years too soon
Been thinking a lot about haruhi lately… i want to make a custom watch order bc theres so much debate about which order is better (chronological or broadcast) and honestly both options kinda suck but for different reasons
ok i’m only like halfway through the first season but haruhi suzumiya as a character is kind of deeply tragic like what if you had godlike powers but you were also a teenage girl and you wanted so so badly for life to be interesting so you created aliens and psychics and time travelers out of nothing to make it interesting and you make some random guy write I AM HERE in an alien language on your middle school field because you need that acknowledgement that you’re unique that you’re interesting that there’s something worth living for but at the same time you have that voice in the back of your head telling you that it was all made up and there was never actually anything interesting or unique about you after all so the aliens and the time travelers and the psychics can never tell you about their existence no matter how much you want it so by your own unconscious design you will be searching for something interesting forever and will always keep yourself from finding it and you wanted but you could never let yourself have. wouldn’t that be fucked up
Kyon: All of you guys's problem is that none of you know how to be normal about Haruhi Suzumiya. She is literally just a depressed teenage girl.
also Kyon: Haruhi stormed into the gas station and demanded the cashier break a large bill with the disdain and haughtiness of a forgotten god who hadn't gotten the memo she wasn't worshipped anymore, and when she smiled as he succumbed to her bidding it was like seventeen supernovas stacked on top of each other–
Started reading the manga a while back and have been just now getting to the non-anime stuff. Here’s a Haruhi appreciation/love post!!! So nice to see this crew again <3
