What pre-war song would the companions overhear Sole singing their newborn crying baby?

I’ve tried to do it so it’d both F!SS and M!SS- so they’ll either give birth or adopt (sorry if it doesn’t come across that way) I’ve also included youtube links as well. I hope this is what you were after Nonnie, Enjoy

Cait:

“Don’t worry, about a thing,”

So much in Cait’s life had gone wrong. Her parents had fucked her over; she’d ended up in the hands of a slaver at eighteen; she was used as an ‘entertainment’ slaver for just over five years; she’d allowed her addiction to drugs and alcohol reach a level where it was uncontrollable.

“‘Cause every little thing, gonna be alright”

Then Sole accidently stumbled into the Combat Zone and had to start a fight- sure, it was the best thing that had ever happened in Cait’s life. And then they’d helped her throughout the Commonwealth, and then they helped her find her cure to her addiction. Then came the news that they were going to be parents. It had scared her- she couldn’t be a mother, she was far too unstable. But then their son came into the world, and he was perfect.

“Singin’: Don’t worry, about a thing”

By god, did that boy have a pair of lungs on him. And whenever he was in Cait’s arms whilst she tried to calm him they both got even more worked up. And then Sole would walk in and once again save the day by singing a pre-war song that Cait had never heard of before.

“‘Cause every little thing, gonna be alright”

Curie:

‘Hallelujah’

“Now I’ve heard there was a secret chord”

Curie had been stuck in a room with four walls for years and years, with no-one other than herself to keep her company. It had been lonely, and haunting, and there were times when she had been scared. And then Sole came in and saved her life.

“That David played, and it pleased the Lord”

Soon after leaving her room in the Vault, Curie had her new body. And soon after that, Sole and Curie were announcing that they were going to be parents. And then there was this perfect little human being that relied on both Sole and Curie, and it made her heart swell with love and excitement for the future.

“But you don’t really care for music, do you?”

There was downsides to parenthood as well. Sleepless nights, stinky nappies and crying babies- but Sole would walk in with the voice of an angel and take the crying infant into their arms. They would rock them back and forth, hum a song filled with love and their child would stop crying, falling straight into a deep slumber.

“It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth. The minor fall, the major lift, the baffled king composing Hallelujah;”

Danse:

“When the night, has come”

The last months had come as shock to Danse- to find out that he is the very thing that he was hunting down to kill. It had sent him into a frenzy- sent him into uncertainty. When Elder Maxson spared Danse’s life, Danse wondered if it were because the young man was remembering all the things that Danse had once done for him; teaching him to shave; teaching him to ‘woo’ a lady; bringing him Sole. But deep down inside Danse knew it were because Sole had stood directly in front of Danse and refused to move- Maxson couldn’t stand that risk.

“And the land is dark”

The news that Sole and Danse were going to be parents together had nearly shocked Danse into a deeper depression. How could he, a synth, assist Sole, a human, in raising a child. He wanted the child to be perfect, everything he was not, and Danse knew that he couldn’t help Sole bring up the child.

“And the moon is the only light we’ll see”

So he’d left. He didn’t go far- just to the top of the hill, where he was overlooking the home he’d once shared with Sole, watching them with the baby. Since he left the child would cry all the time- it was as if the little baby girl missed him- and Sole would take her in their arms and rock them, reassuring the child that everything was alright. He’d watch as Sole would look out the window and practically make eye contact with him- it was as if they knew he was there- and he promised himself that he’d return to them, maybe. Maybe one day.

Deacon:

“For once in my life, I have someone who needs me”

The day that Barbara had died had been the day that Deacon had given up any hope of ever becoming a father- he’d thought that he had bad sperm or something, but he was happy just not procreating and bringing another life into the fucked up world. He was happy just working with the Railroad and helping bring safety to others.

“Someone I’ve needed so long”

And then Sole waltzed into his life, and fucked it all up. He became reliant on them- he needed their reassurance of life- and that scared him to no end. He’d hadn’t been reliant on anyone in a long time. The boundaries of there relationship began bending and changing, and soon, Sole had whispered into his ear that he was gonna be a papa. He’d cried- like, actual tears- and hugged Sole tight to his body, promising them that he’d be the person that them and their child would need.

“For once, unafraid, I can go where life leads me”

Their baby girl was perfect. He’d joked with Sole about names, but they’d settled on something heartfelt and perfect. Sole had told Deacon all about the sleepless nights, but Deacon had thought that they’d been joking. But they wasn’t. Morning after morning Deacon would wake to Sole rocking their child around the room, singing the little infant girl a song that was ingrained in Deacon’s head- because for once in his pathetic life, he had someone- or two someone’s- who needed him.

“And somehow I know I’ll be strong.”

Hancock:

‘You are my Sunshine’

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.”

Their newborn son was a rather fussy baby that refused to sleep for longer than two hours at a time- Sole was used to this- they’d experienced the same with Shaun, however Hancock wasn’t used to the neediness of a newborn baby.

“You make me happy, when skies are grey.”

Sole would stay up at night (and during the day), slowly rocking their son as he wailed- sometimes they would end up singing in hopes of soothing them. Hancock loved it when they sung.

“You never know, dear, how much I love you”

Sometimes they sung the songs that were regularly on Diamond City radio- however Hancock prefered the songs that he didn’t know- those pre-war songs usually calmed their son more than the repetitive Diamond City ones.

“Please don’t take my sunshine away”

MacCready:

‘L.O.V.E’ - Nat King Cole

“L is for the way you look at me”

Love was a curious thing. It completely engulfs you, taking every single breath until it’s completely consumed you. When you’re in love, there is no other but the one you love. MacCready thought that once Lucy died, he’d be a single father, with love just for Duncan. Because, how could you love another?

“O is for the only one I see”

But along came Sole, this blinding light that made MacCready’s heart hurt, because his love was for Lucy, so how could he end up loving Sole. And then Sole had to tell him they were gonna have a child, and his heart hurt because how could he love another child as much as he loved Duncan.

“V is very, very, extraordinary”

And along came their child, a little girl this time. It made MacCready wonder how he could love another- but he loved the little girl just as much as he loved Duncan, to the ends of the world. He knew what a newborn was like (somewhere in the back of his mind reminded him of Lucy- Duncan had only been four months when she’d died), and he knew that they cried a lot. Sole was good at comforting their daughter.

“E is even more than anyone that you adore can”

Nick:

‘Somewhere over the rainbow’

“Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high;”

Nick hadn’t really ever thought of being a father; it hadn’t been in his plan’s pre-war and once he awoke as a synth- well, you get the idea. When Sole told him he was going to be a father, he was more than happy.

The change of having a newborn baby was a challenge- he’d had friends before the war who had babies and complained of how difficult it was with the newborn. He had thought that they had been exaggerating.

“Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue,”

Sole had experience of sleepless nights and crying babies. They knew how to cradle their daughter the right way; they knew the perfect position to rock her to stop crying; they knew the best song to comfort her. It was one of Nick’s favourites.

Piper:

“Come away with me and we’ll kiss”

Piper hated living in Diamond City, but it was the safest place for her and Nat to live in the Commonwealth. There was so much danger inside the walls- yet there was more outside, with a group of raiders practically living on Diamond City’s doorstep.

“On a mountaintop”

Sole was this perfect person who came and helped Piper when she needed it the most. Piper hated leaving Nat on the best of days, and then Sole had helped Piper get back into Diamond City when she’d been locked out. As their friendship/relationship grew and changed, they slowly became closer, and soon they were revealing to Nat that they were going to be adding a new baby into their small little family (and that they were moving out of Diamond City and moving to the new thriving city of Sanctuary Hills).

“Come away with me”

Their son was born in the winter- not that the months grew colder. He was this little bundle of joy that cried all the time, the only person he allowed to calm him was Sole. They just had this voice that he responded well too.

“And I’ll never stop loving you.”

Preston:

“Stars shining bright above you”

As he watched Sole jump down from the roof of the Museum of Freedom to face the Deathclaw head on, Preston felt his heart fall to the bottom of his stomach in fear. He’d only know them for a few hours, and yet he couldn’t imagine how he would feel if they ended up dying because they had tried to help him and the settlers inside. They’d pumped the Deathclaw full of lead, then turned and walked straight back into the Museum with a bright grin on their face.

“Night breezes seem to whisper ‘I love you”

Mama Murphy told Sole of how they would soon have another newborn to look after- a small daughter who would be their world. Sole had laughed off the comment, not expecting it to be true. But it seemed that everything that came from Mama’s sight came true, because soon Sole was cradling a little baby girl wrapped in a pink blanket in their arms.

“Birds singing in the sycamore trees”

The daughter- who was both Sole’s and Preston’s world- didn’t cry that often. Sole was incredibly worried at first, but Curie had promised them that it was completely normal, and that not all babies cried all the time. Whenever she cried, Sole would take her into their arms and rock and sing a beautiful song.

“Dream a little dream of me”

“At last”

X6 wasn’t too keen on the music that was played on Diamond City radio- it was something to do with the fact that he’d heard the songs so many times before. It got boring after a while. Sole however, loved the songs. No matter how many times in one day they listened to it, they would end up singing them all over and over again- even if they faced off against an enemy (X6 nearly killed them himself when they went up against a Deathclaw whilst Sixty Minute Man was playing from their pipboy.

“My love has come along”

Sole loved whistling and humming pre-war music that no-one had really heard of before- it irritated X6 to no end- even if he didn’t like music, he at least liked to know the lyrics of the song. The baby that Sole and X6 had came as a complete shock to the pair of them- and to Father as well- but they managed to sort their way through it.

“My lonely days are over”

X6 hated the songs on Diamond City radio, and he hated the noises the infant made. Wailing screeches that were deafening came from a tiny baby- X6 had to wonder how the young boy had time to breath. Whenever the child was in X6 arms, it ended up crying louder and for longer (he told Sole that it didn’t bother him, but deep deep deep down inside him it did). Whenever the child cried, Sole would take him in their arms and rock, singing a pre-war song that ended the crying and tears.

“And life is like a song”

Maxson:

‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ (Lullaby Version)- Guns and Roses

“She’s got a smile that it seems to me”

Maxson had always wanted children- a little girl and a little boy. His son would be the heir and would become Elder of the Brotherhood, and his daughter would be treated like a little princess- no, a queen.

“Reminds me of childhood memories”

Sole had walked into the command centre and demanded attention- even though they had tried to make themselves as small as possible. But they had a face- and body- that demanded to be looked at, and Maxson couldn’t look away. It hadn’t taken long for the pair to announce that they were expecting a child.

“Where everything”

He had wanted his first born to be a son, but his daughter was the most beautiful thing in all of existence. She was a fussy baby, who- just like Sole- demanded attention a lot of the time. Whilst a team were out on a mission, they’d come across a holotape that had old rock music on it, and one particular song had stuck in Sole’s head- and it was one that they would rock their daughter to sleep to at night.

Desdemona:

“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens”

The minute that Desdemona became the leader of the Railroad, all of her hopes and dreams of becoming a mother went out the window. Her life was just too dangerous to bring an innocent child into the world.

“Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens”

And then Sole walked in, and everything changed- for both the Railroad and for Desdemona. And soon the threat of both the Brotherhood and the Institute were gone, and it felt as if everyone could finally breathe. And then came the news that with Sole, Des was finally going to be a parent.

“Brown paper packages tied up with strings”

Deacon had claimed that he was going to be the best uncle- both Sole and Des closely watched whenever their son was near the well renowned liar. But as soon as their son started crying, he was back in Sole’s arms, whilst they soothed and sung, trying to calm the crying infant.

“These are a few of my favourite things.”
