Character artwork and coloring of Harem Shikkaku characters above by Moka from Mirror's Deceit for Round 3! As usual, I, Madoka, will talk a little bit about the work process for this round~ Since I've already planned out the entire story since Round 2, I finished half of Round 3's chapter before the beginning of the round. The collaboration was a minor setback so I had to rewrite quite a bit here and there. I still managed to write cameos of all the characters from Mirror's Deceit into the long version of my chapter though~ Mirror's Deceit also managed this as well :3 While Kakeru + Kurumi combo from Harem Shikkaku team worked on the group pictures, Moka from Mirror's Deceit worked on the individual character art. Both received very specific instructions from myself. The artwork was actually finished really quickly and on time. Kudos to the artists for actually working their butts off in a timely manner~ Next, while some vocalists recorded to the original, some waited for the techno dance remix instrumental to be released first. Thank you Tomoki for creating our instrumental from scratch! The original song never had an instrumental to work with so it was a pleasure to work with you! This collaboration wouldn't have been possible without you! As for the next step, it took a bit of time but everyone's lines were eventually turned in. One member of our team, Beni, was too ill to sing so therefore, Rui was kind enough to substitute for her last minute. As for Mirror's Deceit, one member was also really sick and it took him/her a while to turn in so we were slightly behind schedule. Once all the lines were in, time for the mixing process! Mixing was crucial. Chii from Mirror's Deceit pitched lines for Mirror's Deceit and turned them in to our Natsuki, who would mix everything with around 30 tracks to work with. Natsuki spent a week to mix before she had real life problems to deal with and turned in her best possible mix to 정수, Mirror's Deceit animator. Kudos to our Natsuki for mixing fourteen people, especially with six voices + mics she has never worked with before. From then on, it was all on 정수 to finish the video on time. And that is our entire process for way too many weeks to count~             -Madoka

Here's a good example of the process between writer and artist. I usually write the character first and then, Kakeru or one of our other lovely artists send me something like this to pick from. I also give ideas on how I imagine the characters to look like :3 This is a couple of sketches of how Izumo Rui might have looked like before we decided on his actual character design. -Madoka

What are you trying to do with my Mizuki, punk? *grabs tie* Mizuki: I am not your Mizuki, Ma-kun... Asuka: What's that commotion back there? Let's check it out, Shirakawa-kun and Ki-chan. Naoki: Guys, let's not fight on school grounds. We're all friends here! Kimi: *dodges wrestling Mamoru and Kenji* HEY! WATCH WHERE YOU'RE MOVING! I SPENT TWO HOURS ON MY HAIR TODAY! Sera: *joins in* Oh! Look! It's Mamoru-kun! Hi Mamoru-kun! Mamoru: Kind of busy here! Kenji: What about me, Sera-chan? Sera: Hi Kenji-kun! Rui: *joins* Okay, okay, break it up guys. She is recovering from a long-term illness since 2012. She has requested to drop out to fully recover from her illness. Instead, please welcome our substitute singer and character, Izumo Rui, future Kaichou in our shoujo~ He is portrayed in this drawing to welcome him onto our team :3 <3 -Madoka

Round 3 Progress Update!

How much longer until the video deadline again? A bazillion years? Although we are against the long deadline (we preferred the April deadline) from the very beginning, we are doing our best to focus on all the tasks at hand. Here is our progress so far~ Lines: 40% completed Artwork: 80% completed Instrumental: 100% completed Mix: 0% completed Animation: 0% completed Story: 99% completed Once all the artwork and lines are in, we'll begin animating and mixing respectively. Mamoru laid his head against my shoulder with a tired expression on his face. He must have went through a lot to leave home like that. "How about we run away together?" "Don't be ridiculous. We're only first years. Where can we go?" "Stay on this subway until the very last stop," said Mamoru softly under his breath. What low reserve on energy. "Then, find some place to stay for the night. You're smart, Mizuki-chan. You'll figure something out. You always do. We won't starve to death." I frowned at him. "Unlike you, I haven't packed my stuff." "We'll pick up your lady things later." "You're just being selfish." "How?" I lowered my eyes and bit my bottom lip. "My dad has already abandoned my mother. I can't abandon her, too. She'll be crushed, Mamoru-kun. And what about my future? I need to take over her company after university." Mamoru gazed in front of him without blinking. "Yeah, I guess I am pretty selfish." "I'm used to it. You've always been selfish," I reminded. "It's nice though," Mamoru mumbled. "To have a reason... a dream to live for." "You can have one, too," I told him. "You're just not searching hard enough." "I'm no good at that. I'm not as calculating as you, Mizuki-chan." I elbowed him, forcing him to sit up straight. “I don't want to hear your pitiful excuses.” I took out a cold compress from the first aid kit inside my purse. Because I was clumsy by nature, I carried these around to treat myself. “Now, stay still while I tend to your face.” I placed the cold compress carefully below his eye. “I can't believe you actually got in a fist fight with your stepfather. That man's huge.” “I can take him,” Mamoru said, wincing at the cold surface against his face. “What will your mother think when she sees you like this?” “She'll take his side as usual, that's what.” I shook my head as I pinched his cheek. “You should treat her better. She's your mother.” “My mother's not like your mother,” Mamoru said, sounding slightly jealous. “I wish Mizuki-chan can take care of me instead.” I smacked his arm and rolled my eyes. “You're such a sorry excuse of a man. That's what you should work on- becoming a real man.” “I want to grow up as soon as possible,” Mamoru mused. “Same,” I said. I checked my first aid kit for anything else that might help. “I want to be able to financially support my mother and me one day. I don't want my mother to work so hard anymore. She can retire in peace and enjoys Korean dramas on daytime television instead.” He slid back down to a lazy position. “Hey, Mizuki-chan.” “What is it now?” Mamoru tossed me a cocky smile. “If I become a real man, you know, being able to buy my own toilet paper,” I had to stop myself from laughing, “will you run away with me, then?” “I'll think about it.” I played it vague on purpose.
