My top five for 2017.

The ones I had the most fun taking or which I was most pleased with. Of course there were a lot of other pictures during the year and picking 5 favourites was difficult and if asked tomorrow, I might pick a different five. Check out the other images that did not make it on my Tumblr or on 500px.

#1 - Snowy Wake (posted Mar 23, 2017)

This old aluminum boat had spent the whole winter trapped in the ice of the Ottawa river. You could just see it from the highway. Ever since I spotted it I kept wanting to go shoot it. A few days before I took the shot a snowstorm dumped some major snow that the wind blew into a wake around the boat. A week later, the ice had broken up and the boat was gone.

#2 - Leaves Floating Down a Stream (posted Nov 16, 2017)

Not far from where I live there is a small stream I have known all my life but never really paid attention to until I took my camera out for a walk on a rainy day.

#3 - Foggy Fifty (posted Oct 4, 2017)

Shot in September on a very foggy morning. Again this is a spot near where I live and grew up that would normally seem uninteresting but the fog that morning really made a big difference.

#4 - Feeding Time (posted Jul 2, 2017)

I must have taken hundreds of shots over a week in different conditions as mom and dad swallows seemingly spent all their hours feeding a brood of three chicks. Sometimes they the adults would not even land and just feed the chicks on the wing. The birdhouse where they lived is attached to our shed.

#5 - Snow Bent Birch (posted Jan 13. 2017)

An ice storm which had turned into a snow storm had covered birch trees in ice and snow to the point where they could not hold themselves up. This was shot at the edge of a field just behind our house. This was also a bit of a mistake as they were shot with a tungsten white balance setting. The RAW file of course would have given me the more true to life colors but I really liked how cold it made it look.
