Step 5: Remove the litter tray. When you have gone through all the stages of the Litter Kwitter, and your cat is ready, remove the tray. If your cat does a good job with toilet training, he should just go in the toilet without any litter needed. If your cat stops using the litter box at any point in the process, try taking a step backwards and having her get comfortable with that step before you proceed. Step 3: Place the litter box on top of the toilet seat. If your cat successfully uses the litter box as your raise the height, place the litter box on top of the toilet. You might have to secure it with duct tape to ensure your cat doesn't knock it off. This is the most cumbersome step because you might not be able to use this toilet yourself. Step 2: Gradually raise the litter tray to toilet level. Over the next few weeks, gradually raise the height of the litter box, using cardboard boxes, or stacks of newspapers or magazines. Your cat won't be used to the height of a human toilet, so this is a very important step in the training process. It's important not to rush your cat through this process. Is Toilet Training Cats Right for You?🔅 But before you jump into toilet training, you need to determine whether it's the right choice for your cat. If your cat is less than six months old, or already has problems using the litter box, toilet training probably isn't a good choice. It's also not a good option if your cat is very skittish, because skittish cats feel more comfortable burying their waste to protect themselves. Finally, if your cat has any joint or mobility problems, you shouldn't use toilet training because there is a risk of injury. Older cats who have arthritis or mobility issues aren't good candidates for toilet training. Helping the newborn kitten eliminate ⁉️ An important part of newborn kitten care is helping the newborn kittens eliminate. In addition to needing his temperature regulated, a neonatal kit requires frequent feedings (don’t forget the burping), and hands-on help eliminating waste. Take a warm washcloth and gently rub under his tail. This should stimulate him to pee and poo. He must do this after eating — it can happen quickly, but be patient, because it can also take a while. Then, with a fresh, warm washcloth, clean his hindquarters and dry them with a towel. If the kitten does not eliminate after eating and you’ve been very patient, he must go to the vet immediately. Devonshire Rex History 📜 The Devon Rex is the result of an accidental mating that took place in England between a feral curly coated male and a straight-haired female. One of the kittens was born with curly hair. He was adopted by a cat fancier named Beryl Cox, and named Kirlee. Kirlee was bred to Cornish Rex females in an attempt to get more curly-coated kittens, but the resulting offspring all had straight coats. Breeders determined the genetic mutation that caused Kirlee’s unique coat was different from the gene that causes the curly coat of the Cornish Rex. The new breed was called the Devon Rex because Kirlee was born in Devon, England. Some of these cats were imported to the U.S., and were soon recognized by the American Cat Fanciers Association in 1972. The International Cat Fanciers Association (TICA) recognized the breed in 1979, and the Cat Fanciers Association accepted them for registration in 1983. Creating good habits for your 6-month-old kitten 🐈 ⁣ ⁣ Your 6-month-old kitten is definitely growing into his personality and developing behaviors he’ll follow throughout his life. Kittenhood — from as young as 8 weeks and up to about one year — is an ideal time to help your pet establish good habits to make him a model pet in his adult and senior years.⁣ ⁣ Spend time helping your kitten become comfortable with the experiences he’ll encounter in his life: car travel, getting groomed, having his ears cleaned, teeth brushing, nail trims, unfamiliar environments, unfamiliar sounds, unfamiliar people in his home and so on. ⁣ First, if you haven’t already, provide a box that is easy for a kitten to climb in and out of. A high-sided box will be too difficult for a youngster to crawl over, especially with a full bladde.
