has anyone written meta about the homophobic implications of the doctor in “sorbet” insisting repeatedly that hannibal must be lying to him about having an infection while drawing his blood

CALDWELL: Any other infections? HANNIBAL: You seem convinced I'm diseased. CALDWELL: I was asking a broader question. HANNIBAL: A disease is an infection. CALDWELL: An infection isn't always a disease. HANNIBAL: That is true. CALDWELL: You should just tell me now, because I'm going to find out, and it will affect your insurance if you lie.

like how does this not sound like caldwell’s implying hannibal is HIV+ based on nothing more than speculation and stereotype

ok but what i do love about sorbet is (everything but especially) like at one point hannibal asks franklyn if he desires tobias sexually and like it could have been meant as just a cheap “look the most pathetic character is gay” joke if it wasnt for the fact that the entire episode is pretty much dedicated to drawing parallels between hannibal and franklyn:

 franklyn wants hannibal to be his friend, hannibal says to bedelia that he has friends, the opportunity for friends and the she and him are friendly, he then asks will if he considers hannibal his psychiatrist or if they are just having conversations (in a friendly way is implied) 

“you consider tobias your best friend, but you arent his.” hannibal considers will his friend, while will considers hannibal his psychiatrist (or at least not his friend, will’s friends usually have four legs rather than two)

“being alone comes with a dull ache” cut to hannibal fidgeting (alone) in his office waiting for will.

 add to that the “do u desire him sexually?”, its put quite crudely because franklyn annoys the living daylights out of hannibal, but even if franklyn says he doesnt desire tobias at all, i think that conversation + the next episode where hannibal thinks will is dead for like 2 seconds definitely make him realise hes uhhh how you say Ass Over Tit in love with will graham

(also the implied homophobic doctor he kills in that ep? Hannibal has gay feelings and franklyn froideveaux is making him realise it)
