"The world is your oyster." The idea of a "flâneur" was first conceptualized by the French poet, Charles Baudelaire, and further expounded by philosopher Walter Benjamin. Loosely translated as a "stroller," the flâneur makes observations of his or her city, gleaning revelations on its inhabitants and its culture. I'm a 20-something-year-old girl living in New York City. This blog is a simple passion of mine to cover all the amazing offerings of the city, which range from the physical forms of music, film, fashion, and food, to the intense emotional elements of personal growth and experiences that I couldn't have anywhere else. I want to distill the essence of the city. Feel free to email me: laflaneusedenyc at gmail.com.

Hi again
So apparently an old photo of my fleshy arm (that I posted to tout a deep gash) alerted the Tumblr censors of sensitive material, and my blog was marked as explicit. Smart things, those image recognition bots.
Anyway, apologies if you actively visited this site (ha!) and saw a strange landing page in its place. No, I did not have some kind of sexual psyche explosion and started posting nudies all over the place.
I’ll make sure to visit my own blog more frequently. :)
xoxo

Although rewarding, every year also feels a little more challenging, in this adult life. I hope I get better at transforming doubt into something more solid and true in 2019. 💪🏼⚡️🛠🌱 (at Venice, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsFXUmaBxOy/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1kg9hqo2bu97z

When I first read about #Stromboli I wondered who in their right minds would want to live on an active volcanic island. However, after spending some minutes walking around the town, I realized it's a precious and sacred place that you'd want to preserve forever. (at Stromboli)

Had an unforgettable experience at Dersou, an Asian-French fusion restaurant that provides a prix fixe menu with yummy cocktail pairings (fresh peppers in my drink!). I suppose I could have chosen not to drink some of the pairings since I had 3 glasses of wine before dinner; but instead, I chose to slightly wobble out of the restaurant in a manager-eyeing-me-like-is-this-girl-going-to-show-up-on-the-news-tomorrow kind of way when they served a beautifully opaque coffee sesame orange-y drink that blew my mind. #gooddecisions #freedom #winolife #paris (at Dersou)

Basically I had drunk booze all day without any food (after I ran into old friends in the middle of le Marais!) when I stumbled into le Caveau de la Huchette. It's a delightfully touristy yet historic venue that deserves a drunken shoutout because: it's where young and old people joyfully dance to jazz that makes you hopeful for the future of it; and where, when the singer says "samba!" suddenly, a very sensibly dressed man appears from nowhere with a set of bongo drums like he was just waiting for this moment to arrive; where you meet Americans from Louisiana, Minnesota and London within 10 minutes, the last of which fills your glass of wine because you helped them pick their bottle; where local musicians rally to celebrate their favorite saxophonist with a dedicated show open to everyone to the wee hours of Monday night; and where you realize Paris is perhaps the best place in the world right now and you want to stay forever and ever and ever. #paris #lalaland (at Le Caveau de la Huchette)

The word "quaint" has been completely redefined by #Giverny. Monet's house and garden are absolutely worth the day trip out of Paris. (at Jardin et Maison de Claude Monet)

The light in #Paris is unbelievable right now. 🌙 Today I learned that during the summer months, uniquely decorated restaurant boats pop-up along the Seine to host hobnobbing Parisians. (at Port de la Gare)

Apparently, Soho House is still the place to be to feel you’re among the beautiful, successful people of New York.
