Chapter I: Opposing Aesthetics

May 13, 2009. San Fransokyo, California. 3:30 PM

It was Friday finally, no more school for the rest of the week. Cass was in her room, well her and her annoying sister, Chelsea’s room. Cass had her headphones in and she was absolutely blasting My Chemical Romance through them. Cass was practically screaming the lyrics out loud.

The door opened to reveal Chelsea was behind it.

“Cass.”

Cass couldn’t hear her older sister through the music.

“CASS.”

Cass was still deafened by the music.

“CASSIOPEIA!!!!”

Cass paused the music and gave an annoyed look to Chelsea, “What do you want now??”

“One, you’re pretty loud”, Chelsea crossed her arms, “Second, where the hell is my good eyeliner?”

“Dunno.”

Chelsea raised her voice “Seriously, Cass? You can’t even bother to take care of my stuff that I let you borrow?!”

Cass got irritated, “Dude, chillax. One, you sound like Mom. Two, I’ll find it.”

“Well you better find it in the next fifteen minutes while I do my hair. I need to do my makeup.”

Cass scoffed, “For what, going to the football game?”

“Yeah, and Takeru is coming over for dinner after.”

“UUUUUUUUUUUUGH.”

Takeru is Chelsea’s boyfriend, and Cass hates when he’s over because she had to deal with their lovey-dovey talk when they were together. Takeru’s a Japanese immigrant, who only moved to San Fransokyo about a year ago.

Cass never understood how they even got together in the first place besides them meeting in Junior year in Algebra II, and they’re both seniors now. Chelsea doesn’t speak a word of Japanese, so it would be harder for her to communicate with him. Takeru spoke a bit of English, but it was broken.

“I found your eyeliner.” Cass threw the tube to Chelsea, who caught it before it hit the floor.

“Good.”

“Not even a “Thank you so much, Cass! You’re the greatest sister ever!!” Wow.” Cass went back to listening to music.

Chelsea rolled her eyes, “Anyways, I’m heading out, I’ll do my makeup in the car.”

Cass flipped her off, “Okay then, bye loser.”

“Rude.” Chelsea returned the bird and went out of the house.

“Oh my god she sucks.” Chelsea sighed.

“Cass. Don’t say things about your sister like that.”

Cass whipped her head around to see her mother.

“You have such a favoritism bias with her, it's astonishing.”

Cass’s Mother scoffed, “Cut it out, Cass. Your sister is well-behaved and has good grades. Unlike you.”

Cass is about to lose it, “You act like she’s the most innocent thing in the world!”

“Well, unlike you, she’s done nothing wrong or terrible!”

“The worst I got was a three-week out of school suspension for kicking someone’s teeth in with my platforms since she threatened to fight me! I did her a favor!!” Cass lifted her boot.

“Damaging someone’s teeth isn’t something to brag about, Cassiopeia!”

“I meant that metaphorically,” Cass exclaimed, “I only broke her nose!”

“I had to pay 500 bucks in compensation!”

Cass sighed, “Okay fine that’s what I’d be mad at, but C’MON! She was BEGGING for IT!”

Cass’s mom sighed, “You better behave when Takeru comes over tonight, or I’m taking your Xbox for the rest of the month.”

“YES MOM!”

hey guys, this is another update on the illustrated growing pains… school has really been kicking my ass and unfortunately, i haven’t had the time to finish chapter 1. i’ve also had another change in artstyle so that doesn’t make it better, now does it? seriously though i do apologize for being so late…i will get the written versions of the chapters out weekly, put it will take a while i work on the illustrations. thank you for understanding!

Don't hold me to this but I may or may not binge big hero 6 ts again after my Halloween movie month..,.....i fear it's time to revisit my Roman Empire (the movie/show that held me together for YEARS)

Cass: *Mostly* protagonist. Cass is in high school during the beginning of the story. Cass is also emo ahah

Chelsea: Cass’s sister (we don’t know her name i’m just calling her chelsea). the exact OPPOSITE of cass clothing wise. Chelsea is a senior in high school at the beginning of the story. also the mama of the hamada bros :3

Takeru: Chelsea’s boyfriend (like chelsea, we don’t canonically know his name this is just me giving him a name). A immigrant who moved from Japan to the US about a year prior of the story. also the proud father of the hamada bros :3

Donna: Chelsea and Cass’s mom

Ryan: Chelsea and Cass’s dad
