Tumblr media
Antipolo City
Antipolo, officially known as the City of Antipolo, is the capital of the first-class component city of the Philippine province of Rizal. The 2020 census reports that 887,399 people live there. In the Philippines, it is the eighth-largest city by population and the most populous city in Calabarzon. In terms of component city, it is also the most populous city. Since Antipolo has a higher altitude than Metro Manila, it provides a scenic view of the city, particularly at night. The mangoes and cashews grown in the area are popular with tourists, as is suman, a sticky rice delicacy. This national park, formerly a popular summer destination, is being rehabilitated to make it.
SOME OF FAMOUS TRADITIONS IN ANTIPOLO CITY
AGONO'S FAMOUS FESTIVAL
HIGANTES FESTIVAL
Tumblr media
Higantes Festival is a local festivity held in Angono, Rizal, Philippines every year. Thousands of oversized papier-mâché puppets are marched around the streets as a way for the common people to ridicule the evil hacienda owners of the past who were under Spanish colonial rule. It eventually evolved further to commemorate the feast of Pope St. Clement I on November 22 and 23. The foundation of the festivity may date back to the Spanish colonial era in the late 1800s. The ruling class, who regarded Angono as their hacienda, imposed a year-long restriction on the common people utilizing puppets arihueti. The former finally broke their cell with the higantes and used the papier-mâché heroes, which they called as hacienderos, to mock their owners.
FLOAT PARADE
Tumblr media
The Grand Float Parade, an annual event that showcases colorful floats, this time with characters from the animation world or the so-called "anime", is expected to attract more visitors, including the younger generation, who will spend the entire day in the city on April 6 to watch their favorite Japanese television and movie characters impersonated by the float parade participants. According to Mar Bacani, director of the Antipolo City Culture Arts and Tourism Promotions Office, each of the city's 16 villages will have its own distinctive float with an anime motif. Private companies, such as food stores and local schools, are also scheduled to participate in the float procession as guests.
