The Rainbow Serpent is a story told by the Aboriginal people of Australia. When a rainbow is seen in the sky, it is said to be the Rainbow Serpent traveling from one waterhole to another. They believe that is why some waterholes never dry up when drought strikes. In some cultures the Rainbow Serpent is male, in others it's female and in some it's an androgynous entity. It is said that the Rainbow Serpent came from beneath the ground and created large mountains and hills as it pushed upward. In some cultures, the Rainbow Serpent is considered to be the ultimate creator of everything in the universe. The Rainbow Serpent replenishes water as it slithers across the land. Some people believe that without the Rainbow Serpent no rain would fall and the Earth would dry up and everything would die. This necklace was created from etched and stained clay and an amethyst geode. The clay is etched with organic and primitive style markings. I named this necklace Amethyst Spirit because I see a face in the clay on the left side of the amethyst.
