the group had been together for a handful of weeks now, sammy having been the third to join. together, they all carried a special skill set to keep them going in this undead wasteland. adam was a natural leader. ana lucia was street smart. terrence? the muscle. dean could hotwire any vehicle he got behind the wheel of. rickles was the military backbone and weapon master. and jessie? she could hack and wire her way back into any system left in considerably one piece.

their expertise didn't mean that they weren't immune to hardship though. though they were a strong group, a hoard of a hundred walkers was still a tough match, and today's challenge was a distant car alarm while they were looting a downtown area. everyone's eyes snapped to each other's to do a silent roll call for who might have set off the alarm, but everyone had been in sight. they stood frozen for a moment before they scattered to try to find safe ground as the sea of walkers found their way through the building like a deluge of rot.

jessie had split off with dean and terrence to try to slip out of the building to the planned rendezvous point, trying to fend off the hoard with their chosen weapons. jessie had a baseball bat and was swinging it wildly, hands going numb from the contact it was making again and again as she cleared her own path. there were moments of more challenging walkers, but her mind blacked out and went into survival mode until they were in the car that dean had hotwired and were peeling away for the meet up zone.

" shit -- shit! what the fuck is that?! " dean breathed out first before he caught a glimpse at jessie's forearm.

blue eyes fell to the arm that was dripping with blood, a deep, fresh set of teeth marks in the flesh. the adrenaline must have numbed her senses, but as soon as she saw it, the pain shot through her arm along with the panic that stilled her chest.

oh my god … you've been bitten .

@bimother's voice from where he was leaning from the backseat between the driver and passenger's seats had her stomach sinking. adam was going to fucking shoot her on sight, she knew it.

her stomach sunk and the color drained from her face, cursing under her breath as her hand immediately clamped over it. " no, no, no, no, no! f - fuck! " she gritted out, swallowing hard. she couldn't recall any iteration of a zombie where a bite didn't leave you totally fucked. " this . . . fuck, this isn't fucking good, is it? "
