the differences in how each mxtx main characters partner chooses to keep/protect them like,

luo binghe literally wants shen qingqui all to himself, he doesn't want him to leave him so he firsts tries to keep him in the demon realm. he thinks if shen qingqui has his choice of cang qiong or binghe, he'll choose the sect. but if binghe doesn't give him that option, he gets his shizun to himself. it's only after shen qingqui tells binghe he wants and chooses to stay with him that binghe is able to sort of get over his fear of being left by shen qingqui

lan wangji wants to take wei wuxian back to gusu with him. he wants to protect him and his idea of doing this is to hide him away. unlike binghe he doesn't act on it, he asks wei ying to come to gusu with him. as much as he wants to take him back the cloud recesses to protect him in his own way, he knows wei wuxian might not be willing to come. after wei ying comes back lan zhan simply wants to exist at his side

hua cheng does not want to keep xie lian to himself. he doesn't think he's worthy of xie lian, but he also doesn't want xie lian to be unhappy in anyway. hua cheng does want to protect him, not because he thinks xie lian can't defend himself but because he believes his beloved deserves it. hua cheng is totally cool with how xie lian roams around and he wants to be there with him. that's what's matter to him simply existing next to xie lian

the thing about taylor swift is. there's a reason that the people who hate her will always hate her music, no matter what kind of music she makes, no matter how much they would like it if it was made by a different artist. it's the refusal to approach the work sympathetically. and i don't mean sympathetically like i expect people to love her and feel sorry for her etc just to listen to an album, i mean it like being able to sit in her existence as a human person with interiority. to meet the work on its own terms. people come out of her albums with nothing but confirmation bias because they refuse to engage with her perspective for even an hour.
