The warm water certainly helped to relax him if nothing else. There was still a sense of fatigue lingering over him when he finished his short shower, but it was not as bad as it had been and certainly not enough to hold him back. Dressing did prove something of a problem, as none of Yugi's clothes fit, even with the boy having grown some since Atem last saw him (and anyway Atem had never been too keen on Yugi's style), so he found himself simply sliding back into his Egyptian clothes for the time being. They'd have to sort that out later, and wasn't that a strange thought? That there would be a later at all. It wasn't something Atem was used to, not in the slightest.

After he dressed, Atem made his way slowly down to where he remembered the kitchen to be. When he saw Yugi there, he breathed out a sigh of relief. "Nothing much has changed," he said, looking around at all the familiar sights. "How long... how many years has it been?"

░░░├[❋]┤░░░—; “Okay then. Anything it is.” He smiled happily. He was just glad that Atem was safe. “Here let me help you get up. You don’t seem like you can balance very well without help.” He said helping the other to his feet and allowing him to lean against him to get to the bathroom. “Shampoo’s on the right hand of the shower now and the soap is the same place where it’s always been. If you need anything else please don’t hesitate to yell for something.” He told the other. He would be happy to help the other at any time. 

"I’ll be starting on your food." He said leaving the other at the bathroom door as soon as he knew he wouldn’t fall on his way to the shower. He pulled things out of the refrigerator. They didn’t have much at the moment since they hadn’t gone grocery shopping. But now they had Atem in the house they would have to make sure the pantry was stocked. When the other used his body he was destroy the pantry.

"...Are you asking if I have any wine? If so, the answer is no. Aren't you far too young to be drinking, anyway?"

Anubis pouted and shuffled. “Wine?”

I have complete faith in your ability to make this whole thing blow over smoothly."

He nodded in understanding. Though he wouldn't say it out loud, Atem couldn't help but feel a small surge of jealousy. The other him seemed to have things much more in control than he did, even if he was separated from his friends. At least it was a separation of choice this time.

"If there is more of Set in him, I imagine the only one to see it is Mokuba. Given all that he's been through... in both lives, it does not surprise me that he is the way he is now. Even though it does sadden me somewhat, I admit."

At the other's offer, he smiled but shook his head. "I appreciate the gesture, but I'll be alright. The worst that might happen is I'll wander off after some stray cats. I always end up back at the Game Shop in the end, though. Sometimes with the cats. They help me feel more grounded, oddly enough. Yugi isn't too keen on having so many around, but he tolerates it for my sake, which I appreciate."

unlike his double, it didn’t take very long for Atem to   get used to Kaiba being Kaiba and not the priest who      once served him. their personalities were complete opposites.         Kaiba was hardly one to be subservient to anyone and he was            still very brash and hostile at times. on the other hand, after everything              that’s happened, he was mellowed out some. his brash and often                cold-hearted antics were fewer in number, or at least whenever Atem                   was around him.

"I often wish there was a small piece of priest Seto within him and there probably is. He’s just very unlikely to let people like us see him like that. Probably views it as a weakness and I cannot argue with him. I feel the same way. Getting close to people and letting them get close to me is…a problem.”

            he reached for his drink, his dark eyes looking over             at Atem with worry behind them.

"I wish I could help you. I feel very uneasy about all that you say. Not being able to remember… that’s…troubling. Do you..want me to walk you back home tonight? The idea of you getting lost doesn’t sit well with me. Or you can stay the night. Whatever works for you.”

Atem smiled softly at the boy, nodding. "I have no real preferences! Anything you can offer. I haven't... I haven't eaten in a few thousand years, after all. I'm not feeling very picky." With that said, he shifted himself up to lean against the wall carefully. His body was still sore and sluggish, it taking all he had not to fall over and go back to sleep. But he couldn't, not now. He owed it to Yuugi to keep up and not let him worry any further.

So I started watching Yugioh again recently and I remembered my love for Bakura. He’s such a cutie.

"Hmm." Atem took another piece of fruit and nibbled on it as he turned this information over in his head. When he finished, a frown crossed his face and he gave his other self a curious look. "I find it... I find it strange to see Kaiba, these days. Sometimes I can't remember that he is who he is, and not... not Set."

And really, that was the simple version of it. There were days when Atem woke up and couldn't remember where he was, who Yuugi was, anything that had happened after Egypt. It never lasted long, thankfully, but it was disconcerting, and seemed to happen more often around Kaiba. It was unsettling adn confusing, but it was somehow worse when he wasn't confused. When he hadn't forgotten. When he simply looked at Kaiba and knew exactly who he was but still wished he was someone else.

Atem took a seat across from…    himself and sighed, reaching       out to grab a piece of fruit.

“I’m not entirely certain why Kaiba keeps my secret. He’s so… I don’t know. He finds it hard to believe I am who I say that I am. There are times he’ll call me Yugi and other times, he’ll say my true name. I think he’s still trying to wrap his head around it all. You know he’s not one to believe in magic tricks. He’s all that I have though and I am grateful that he doesn’t make too much of a fuss anymore. And well, I suppose if you decide to frequent the area, that makes two people. You and Seto Kaiba.”

Atem raised an eyebrow. "What was that?"

Anubis froze and glanced over to the other, his fingers in mere inches of the wine. “B-Bara?”

"Ah, yes. Like what Yuugi has. ...What makes it different from a regular computer?"

"It’s a computer, has access to the internet which stores information, also I can write essays on it, without ink, watch vidoes—- urm—- I could go into the technological side, but I think that might confuse you more."

"A very good question."

"As well as can be expected, I suppose. ...And you? How have you been?"

"Forced to live in ignorance. That’s unfortunate. How are you fairing?"

i had a really elaborate dream last night of atem accidentally adopting a little boy because the kid was homeless and wandering around and noticed atem in japan and was like "woooooow this guy has the same skintone as me" so he just kinda attached himself to atem and atem was just like "????????" but the kid stayed and yuugi was like "how did this happen" and atem had no idea

Atem sat in silence while the other him put together the tray. He could see where the former king was coming from, as many of his feelings were shared. These were parts of Atem that he had always kept to himself, of course, but now in his new life they overwhelmed him at times. The full scope of what he'd given up, what he'd lost, and how little choice he'd had in the matter had slammed him full in the face when he arrived in the afterlife, and he'd continued to feel it keenly in the time since then. "I don't know, I think it can be easy to be cruel to oneself, even more so than it is to be cruel to others at times," he said with a playful smile. He'd never been particularly kind with himself. Always he'd have to save the kindness in his heart, or what was left of it, for someone else. That was his duty as king. Taking a strawberry, he asked, "Why does Kaiba keep your secret?"

"I wouldn’t expect them to. I’m sure there would be a sense of betrayal and possibly anger that I left to begin with, but I didn’t know the gods would grant me the choice. I chose to come back here because I had been wandering the world for centuries. Egypt was my birthplace but this is my new home. I…also didn’t want to be a leader anymore. A cop out I suppose, but I traded my life once and put it all on the line a second time. I deserve to be happy and I took the door most likely to give me what I desire. If that makes me a bad person, so be it. Yugi doesn’t need me anymore.”  while the pharaoh made himself comfortable, Atem headed over to the fridge and pulled out a plastic container full of fresh strawberries. in another were apples, bananas, kiwi and other assorted fruits. he grabbed a silver tray and a cutting board and began assembling a nice tray of fruit, cheese and nuts that they could share.  “I miss it sometimes. The sand and the sun. A lot of these items were very hard for me to part with and so they allowed me to keep them. I am happiest here, but I need a piece of Egypt at all times.” once he was done arranging the tray, he set it in the center of the table. “You don’t need to thank me. I’d be hard pressed to be cruel to my own self.”

A frown tugged at his lips as he sighed, slowly bringing a hand up to run through his hair. It felt thick and somewhat greasy to his touch, as if he hadn't showered in days. Or maybe centuries. He would have to fix that as soon as possible. "Yugi, I don't know how or why I am back," Atem told the boy. "I simply... awoke, as if I had only been sleeping. I feel that whatever, or whoever, is behind this may not have done the best job of it. I haven't been feeling well since I found myself back."

░░░├[❋]┤░░░—; He looked up with a tired expression on his face feeling the other stir against his hand. His large amethyst eyes slowly opening as he looked at the other. He blinked a few times before looking at the other and smiled sleepily back at the other.  "Why wouldn’t I be here? And you are here. But I do wonder why you are. I am unsure of it…but I am glad you are here." he told the other.
