Lyon really knew what was up from the beginning. I think Lyon really did love Juvia, but because he loved her he wanted Juvia to be happy. Lyon knew she could only be happy with Gray. That’s why he said “Then for the sake of her happiness…” I don’t think Gray fully understood because he didn’t have his feelings for Juvia sorted out yet. It really shows how much Gray has grown when he said “I don’t want to be happy. I want to make Juvia happy.”

At this point it’s just funny looking at how Gray acted towards Juvia in the past, because the Gray now goes against everything he has done.

The hypocrisy of Gruvia haters

(Sorry for my bad english)

Disclaimer : I’m not talking about all the people who don’t like Gruvia. You can ship and not ship whatever you want. Sometimes, even myself don’t like popular ship or I don’t understand why people ship them and that’s okay. You can be unconfortable with a ship, that’s your right because it’s your feelings. As a Gruvia shipper, i respect that you don’t like Gruvia if you respect that I like it and don’t come in our tags to spit your hate.

But today, I’m talking specially of people who hate Gruvia because they ship Gray with another character.

I ship Gruvia for nearly 10 years and I’ve been on Tumblr since 2013. So believe me, I saw a lot of bullsh*t here. That’s how I witnessed a lot of hypocrisy from theses haters and I identified mainly 3 patterns :

These haters decide what’s romantic or not based on their preference.

Gray died for Juvia twice, she was litteraly the last person he thought of before nearly dying (and appeared like a beautiful angel in his mind), he comforts her, he explicitly says he wants to protect her no matters what the cost, he makes sure to always be with her (« I’m here Juvia »), she’s the only person who can make Gray smile when he’s feeling down, she’s the only person who saw him cry openly in her arms because he trust her enough,  Gray says that Juvia is his world, that Juvia is his power to live, he thinks of her as « romantic love », he wants to become a better man to be with her, he said several time that Juvia was « his », he explicitly said that he doesn’t hate Juvia and was grateful to having her at his side (I’m sure I forgot others moments, there are so many)

Theses haters : Gray hates Juvia ! Gruvia has no development ! Gray has no romantic feeling towards Juvia !

But when Gray and Lucy stood next to each other, these same people believe it’s a romantic moment ! Okay Gray said once that Lucy was a cute girl (because she is ❤), but he also friendzoned her at several occasions and act like a brother. 

In his mind, she’s like Wendy, a little sister, when Juvia is guess what ? The woman he loves !

(Also remember that’s Stone Age omake ? Every men was sexually attracted to Lucy, except Gray and Gajeel. And guess who was Gray attracted to ? Juvia !)

So remember, by these haters’ logic : if you stand next someone, it’s true love. If you found a person cute, it’s means you love them romantically (omg, I guess I love at least 10 person at the same time lmao). But if you die to protect someone who means the world to you, it means you hate this person !

These haters loves to say Gray is  OOC when he’s romantic with Juvia.

Just say you don’t want him to be romantic with Juvia and go lol. You don’t have to act like you know the characters better than the author (you know, the one who created them ?) just because you ship the guy with another girl.

Speaking about Gray being OOC, I love when these people act like this :

Gray developps feelings towards Juvia during the entire manga, Gruvia is the most developped ship on panel, Gray is more and more open about his feelings because it’s in the logic of his character arc (it’s called growth, a character whith no developpment isn’t a good character).

These haters : Gray is OOC !

The same haters : (make Gray acts the same way towards another girl who he had 0 romantic developpment during the entire manga) It’s true love !

Friendly reminders that Gray isn’t a Don Juan who will openly flirt with Lucy or another girl, no matters how much you convinced yourself.

It’s canon that Gray has no experience in dating and Juvia is the first girl he has a romantic dveloppment with.

So remember, by these haters logic : if a character doesn’t act the way you want or fall in love with the girl you want, it’s because the author doesn’t undestrand them. Everyone knows that you are the only person on Earth who understand this character you didn’t even create !

These haters say that Gruvia isn’t romantic, but stole Gruvia moments for their own ship

This one makes me laugh the most. It’s a common thing in fandom, because I saw it in others ship wars. The haters will say a ship isn’t romantic but will used romantic moments of said ship for their own.

With Gruvia, I saw a lot of other ship use Mashima drawing and replace Juvia’s face with another girl’s. So I don’t understand ? If Gruvia isn’t romantic, why are you stealing their moment for your own ship ? What logic is that ?

I remember a Gray and Ultear shipper who was a massive Gruvia hater. One day, this person hated on Juvia because « she killed Gray’s father so she was a horrible person who didn’t deserve him ».

So okay, let’s ignore the fact that :

Silver was already dead. He was just a living corpse under the influence of the necromancer.

Juvia had no other choice, because she had to kill that necromancer to save the world

Juvia was heartbroken because she knew it would kill Gray’s dad. But guess who ask her to do it anyway ? Gray’s dad ! Silver wanted to die !

Juvia was so heartbroken that she was ready to give up her love for Gray. And guess who stopped her ? Gray himself because he was glad he didn’t have to kill his father himself ! Gray didn’t want Juvia’s love to go away, he needed her !

Anyway… This hater had found a new pretext to hate on Juvia. When, several week later, this same person make a AU where Ultear is the one to kill Silver, stealing a Gruvia moment.

So by this person logic : Juvia is a bitch because she was forces to kill the father of the man she loves to save the wolrd. But when another girl do it, it’s tragic and romantic ?

Like, are you dumb ? Or are you one of Earth’s biggest hypocrite ?

So in conclusion : it’s okay if you don’t like Gruvia dynamic. But in that case don’t use this dynamic for shipping Gray with another character.

I SHOULD BE MAKING THAT 500-WORD PERSUASIVE ESSAY FOR ENGLISH SUBJECT BUT INSTEAD I DECIDED TO MAKE THIS LONG-ASS ESSAY EXPLAINING SOME MISUNDERSTOOD SHIT ABOUT ONE OF MY FAVE SHIPS: GRUVIA

(warning: spoilers. It's also gonna be some LONG ass shit lmao. Sorry for typos in advance)

I heard a lot of people disliking and hating Gruvia's dynamic and relationship, because of things that they completely misunderstood, so I thought I'd clear up and explain some of those here cause I just think all these hate are unnecessary especially when most of their reasons of why they hate the ship aren't really valid. I mean, yeah you can dislike it all you want we all have different preferences but the level of hate it gets for reasons that are proven untrue is just unbelievable.

[ GRAY IS A BIG TSUNDERE ]

Gruvia is not one-sided, it's just that Gray's a big frickin Tsundere and he refuses to show affection, so he may come off as cold to her sometimes. Although later on he realized that he should accept his feelings for Juvia rather than pushing her away and trying to run away from his feelings before he regrets it, so he has become less of a Tsundere (but still a Tsundere lmao).

[ GRAY DOES NOT DISLIKE NOR HATE JUVIA ]

Gray does not dislike nor hate Juvia, even from the very beginning after they just met. Hell, even right after their fight after their first actual meeting lmao Gray even helped her, saved her, and made her happy. He wouldn't have done all that if he disliked her. He wouldn't have said he has no problem with Juvia joining the guild if he disliked her. He wouldn't hang around with Juvia inside and even outside the guild if he disliked her. He wouldn't go out with Juvia, just the two of them, if he disliked her. He wouldn't live with her for half a year if he disliked her. He would have agreed with Juvia leaving him alone if he disliked her, instead of hugging her, thanking her, and crying on her arms. He wouldn't have sacrificed himself for her safety if he disliked her....

It's just he didn't wanna get too attached to her. He has always thought ever since as a child that it's his responsibility / fault whenever someone he cares for dies. He blames himself for it, consciously or unconsciously, and puts the burden upon himself. He feels like whenever he gets too attached to someone, they would leave him and when that happens it'll be his fault. That's the reason why he seems cold to her sometimes, it's that he doesn't wanna get too attached to her, afraid that she would just leave him like the others...

"I'm going to avenge my mother and father!"

"I wasn't... able to do anything..."

"It's my fault that Ul died 10 years ago"

"No matter how much time pass, it won't change the fact that it's my fault Ul's dead!"

Him trying to push her away by being cold to her is most likely something he did unconsciously, since he himself wasn't really sure about his feelings for her or having the fear of loosing his loved ones, at least when it was just starting. But as we already know, his attempt of trying to not get too attached to her wasn't successful. It didn't have any chance of being successful to begin with since the reason why he didn't want to get too attached and that he had developed the fear of loosing her in the first place is because he's already attached to her from the beginning. He was the one to save her, worries about her a lot, cares for her, protects her, and spends a lot of his time with her, which made him even more attached to her.

And when it actually almost happened, when Juvia almost killed herself for him, it finally became clear to him what he feels about her, and he realized that it was stupid and cowardly for him to try and avoid Juvia and his very own feelings just because of that. He could've lost all the chances he had with her forever, with all those efforts she spent on him all be put in vain. And now that he realized this, that doesn't make the fear of loosing her disappear, but instead of avoiding and hiding his feelings like before, he's trying to improve and be a better person for her that can protect her no matter what.

[ THE LOVE POTION THINGY IS NOT CANON ]

The episode about Juvia buying potions made her look bad to some fans. It was not in the Manga. It's not canon. The part where Lucy expected Natsu to confess (which was seen in the same episode) is canon, since it's from the Manga. But the part where Juvia buys love potion and uses it to try and get Gray is not in that chapter, nor is it in any chapter in the manga, meaning it's not canon and is an anime-only part. Well personally I found it quite funny, but some fans really hated Juvia on that one.

[ JUVIA IS NOT A YANDERE B*TCH ]

Juvia is not that yandere girl who will kill you if you reject her and shit. If anything, she's the opposite. She can NEVER hurt Gray. She'd rather kill herself than hurt Gray. When she thinks she's making Gray uncomfortable, she immediately apologizes. When she thought she disrespected Ul's death anniversary by saying it should be a happy day for Gray because it's their anniversary (she didn't know it was Ul's death anniversary), she felt very sorry, (but actually, the scarf she made cheered and provided warmth for Gray on that cold night.) The reason she couldn't approach him at the start was because she didn't want to make him and his friends uncomfortable (after the fight with Phantom Lord, and because she always thought she only brought awfulness). Yeah, she becomes extremely mad when someone threatens Gray's life, but that's just like Natsu being mad when someone threatens to kill Lucy. But she didn't even actually kill Meredy (the one who did threaten to kill Gray) and even became friends with her! A yandere would do the total opposite. If Gray ever rejects her, she wouldn't be mad at him, but would probably be very depressed. She was even willing to give up on him in Tartaros Arc, when she had to kill Gray's father, thinking she doesn't deserve to love him anymore after what she did... But Gray himself doesn't want that. He hugs her and says "thank you" to Juvia for saving his father so he didn't have to kill his father himself. If he disliked or hated Juvia, he would have agreed about her leaving him alone.

The main reason why Juvia acts like that is because she's trying to show her love for others that she wasn't able to show before, since she was always rejected, avoided, and disliked by others. She's always pushed away by others. So now that someone (Gray) didn't push her away and showed care for her, she didn't want to miss the chance of finally feeling loved and being able to share her love. And Gray, together with the guild, accepted her. She wants to feel loved and accepted, so she's trying all her best to not be seen as someone gloomy or unlikable that others used to think she is. She does things that she thinks would make them happy, she does things that she thinks would make them accept her. But since she never really knew how to interact with other people before she joined the guild, and the people she used to be with were toxic as hell, she comes off as awkward sometimes. But she's growing, together with Gray and the guild, she's growing.

[ THE "LOVE RIVAL" THINGY IS JUST FOR COMIC RELIEF AND WAS NEVER SERIOUS ]

She may say "Love Rival!!" when someone's getting close to Gray, but it's only put as comic relief and she was never actually serious about it. Even Lucy, the one who she always calls her "rival", never took it seriously. If Lucy did, she would have never approached Gray ever again, or hated Juvia for it. If Juvia was really serious about her "threats", they would have kicked her out of the guild long ago. Plus, she may act like that, but in reality, she's willing to sacrifice for her friends, including Lucy. And Lucy herself knows that.

It's sad that people say they are concerned about Gray and Juvia "forcing" herself into him when they don't really actually think about and consider what Gray is feeling towards her, and they just hate how Juvia acts around Gray. Gray loves her, she loves Gray. Just let them be happy. Gray has lost too much, let him enjoy being with Juvia.

Anyways, I'm not forcing you to like the ship, we all have preferences. But I'm just trying to make you understand both characters, their relationship, and how they see each other. Especially with all the hate this ship gets and how misunderstood both characters are and the things they do. And if you got to this part, thanks for reading all of this lmao.
