My analysis of Emmrich is that when the team goes out drinking he mostly sits watching them gossip while he drinks fancy wine and the others think he'll just sort of sit and quitely relax until, several glasses in, he opens with "May I say something unkind?" and then proceeds to drop tea so scalding it could boil an ocean

for real though, i think veilguard's biggest strength character and storywise is how close that team becomes by the end. the stakes are insurmountably high because on top of facing some truly terrifying odds, you also care deeply about these characters as much as they care about each other. they're all friends. it really gives the same energy as a dnd party at the end of a long campaign. I just adore them all.
