Empowerment of women in the workplace
Empowerment of women in the workplace means allowing womento have more control over their lives. It means giving them the freedom to make their own schedules, learn new skills and gain self-reliance. Empowerment is created when the strengths that women already bring to the company are recognized and utilized.
Researches prove businesses taking part in gender equality measures have seen their revenue increase as a result. Hence the case for empowering women in the workplace is likely to become a more recognized goal.
Amidst all this one obvious problem is that women's rising aspirations have not been fulfilled. They have been encouraged to climb onto the occupational ladder only to discover that the middle rungs are dominated by men and the upper rungs are out of reach. Only 2% of the bosses of Fortune 500 companies are women.
Also another emerging problem for management and expectations of employees is that the management has to change their approach to suit the younger generation who does not accept authority and bureaucracy. Generation X'ers expect to participate and lead in the workplace environment in order to function. Creating empowerment in a workplace of the new generation can unleash the creative minds.
Empowerment of women in workplace first and foremost comes from oneself. Being a woman it is important to keep up your self-esteem and keep yourselves motivated to achieve your goals. Being a man it is of utmost importance to treat your colleague with all due respect and investing the same level of trust and confidence in woman in getting a job done.

When you set your step into the gates once more your memories start gushing in! Every nook and corner of your college holds some special moments spent. It was the place most of us discovered ourselves to have become what we are today
The classrooms speak volumes of the glee and despair you have faced. The walls were always considerate of your emotion to support you when you leaned. The dusted blackboards had poured in knowledge and the long corridors have graced your steps every time you walked!
It is now the time to revisit old memories, cherish old friends and relive your youthful days! Alumni Meet is such a novel idea to bring old students of the institution from far and wide and unite them again under one roof! It is time to show your gratitude to the institution that nurtured you, the staff who encouraged you and friends who made life much more wonderful

Why do women make great leaders?
It’s impossible to respect value and admire great leadership if you can’t identify what makes a leader great.  Management is a great criterion that attributes to being a leader. There is one quote that follows the status of how being a team leader thrives – “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care” Well, frankly team leaders are the ones who sacrifice and put ahead other’s problems ahead of their own.
Female leaders excel at “nurturing” competencies such as developing others and building relationships and many would exhibit integrity and that is just what adds to the traits of a female leader. Women in management can make great leaders and here are few reasons why
1)     She becomes a team player herself who is willing to collaborate, comfort with delegation and share the credit with her team.
2)     She fixes great role models whom she considers have achieved success even in hard times.
3)      She is sincere and will clearly demonstrate her commitment towards work.
4)     She is comfortable demonstrating a diversity of opinion. Being a good listener, she will take in the inputs from her entire team and work on it.
5)     She will conduct brain storming sessions once in a while to check her team potential.
Tumblr media
6)     A great team leader will possess co-operative skills with empathy, clear communication.

From myth breakers to path breakers
“What you want to be when you grow up?” asked the teacher. “Astronaut. I dream to see our Earth from the moon” she replied.
Years back if someone had asked this question; it would be difficult for a girl to say what she really wants to be. Because she fears her parent’s approval, society’s ridiculous norms and her safe and happy future.
But now, women have even started to think of gaining more than one title in their work life. They have tackled the bizarre old myth that women are dependent on men. Women of this century are expected to juggle home, family, relationships and career. They definitely achieve it by maintaining a perfect balance between work and home without letting either take a back seat. Renuka Ramnath, CEO of Multiples Alternate Assessment Management breaks this myth. Even after losing her husband at the age of 32, she promised to work hard and make her children always happy. An engineer-MBA, Renuka Ramnath has managed funds over $2 billion, guiding ICICI ventures into trend setting investments. Today she enjoys her roles of being a mother and an entrepreneur!
Tumblr media
At work women don’t just have to prove their proficiency and work skills, they also have to go a step ahead to prove that they are capable bosses, tough administrators, fighters and that they can do the man’s work as good as or better! Chitra Ramakrishna, Managing Director and CEO, National Stock Exchange breaks yet another myth that women cannot understand business markets. She made history by being the first woman to head an exchange in India. Under her, the NSE has become a transparent market system that reaches out to more than 1,500 locations in the country.
Sunitha Krishnan, a social activist and the co-founder of Prajwala, an NGO did not know that an incident as grave as rape would change her life. Today, she fights for women safety and has built an institution that assists trafficked women in finding shelter. She has indeed broken the myth that still prevails in society against sexually harassed women.
Women tend to get stunned by the society challenges and few continue with passion, breaking the myths, paving their own path and making their own destiny. Many women have overcome the negative notions and have proved themselves in all spheres of life as true inspirations!

Coimbatore - a hub of buzzing entrepreneurs
Don’t you think “Manchester of South” is easily the most outdated sobriquet in India? Because frankly, Coimbatore has out grown “Manchester” in various platforms. Some people don’t know that it was in Coimbatore that the first wet grinder was invented! They don’t know that Coimbatore tops in efficient water management. Heck, they don’t even know that this is a heaven for most of the entrepreneurs to start anything new!
Surprise is the underlying theme of the city. Because Coimbatorians always appreciate anything that makes difference or brings out something special. Yes, Coimbatore has always been home to a persistent sense of entrepreneurship. Be it textile, industrial, real-estate, educational, information technology or healthcare, Coimbatore is indeed emerging into the second largest developed city in the state next to Chennai. It has many buzzing entrepreneurs making their way of creating a company or an institute growing bigger. “Coimbatore is getting younger with a great appetite for creativity” says Madhubala Raghupathy who began a new online portal to sell flower bouquets anywhere in the city. After her B tech in Horticulture, Madhu wished to start something of her own and she knew this city would definitely be the best place to do it!
Tumblr media
Thiagarajan Ravi and Harish Ramaswamy who started a “Laundry Hub” in Coimbatore opined that the city had a great technology related base too. After completing their MBA’s, these youngsters wanted to gift the city a laundry service in a whole new angle. “People willingly accept new changes and they love it. We launched the first laundry dry service with an online pick-up registration in Coimbatore and it was amazing to see a huge progress!”
Meena Krishnakumar who began a bi-monthly flea market in Coimbatore exclaimed that the city has some great taste for fashion. They are brand lovers yet still value money and make their purchases for their wants. “When I first thought of this idea, I really didn’t know how well it would work. But it was surprising to see many young women and homemakers come forward to put up stalls and showcase their business. Coimbatore is definitely a hub of creative hungry people.” She added.
There are many next generation companies that have built or are beginning to build their roots in the city. Working to update established business models, technology or bringing more expansion, many entrepreneurs are indeed working to put Coimbatore on the global map!

Changing Pink
Some people don’t change but others willingly go along with change, because change is “the right thing to do.” They do it if there is an important reason to change. Businesses don’t change their corporate cultures to retain women just for being nice to them! They do it if there is a compelling business reason to do so.
The bottom line reasons to achieve gender diversity in leadership are exactly that reason which is compelling.
In the past, all women in the workplace were automatically assigned to temporary or part-time or low responsibility jobs because it was understood that their first priority was taking care of their families. Unmarried women were likely to quit as soon as they married (often to an up-and-coming executive in the company), and married women were likely to quit as soon as they became pregnant. Women with children were understood to care more about the children than about work. In addition, there was a widespread belief that women were not as capable as men, either physically or mentally or emotionally.
Tumblr media
But very few understand that, specifically, at all levels, women are rated higher. According to a study on leadership, women are rated higher in fully 12 of the 16 competencies that go into outstanding leadership. And two of the traits where women out-scored men to the highest degree – taking initiative and driving for results – have long been thought of as particularly male strengths.
Or to put it another way, the women who “make it” perhaps do so because they are far better than the men. It might mean the focus should be less on “what women bring” and more on getting them into leadership roles in the first place.
Today, there are more women in leadership and entrepreneurial roles in all types of industries. “Pink” is often a colour associated to women. Businesses are “Changing Pink” slowly because they are changing the mind-sets that are standing in the way of women advancement. So, how about coming forward and making the change happen?

Women can make good leaders
“You are a woman and you know you are over- emotional to handle business sector!” – I presume the next question any lady would ask back would be – “Hello? Give me a break. What’s with naming us as ‘over-emotional’? ” These statements are common and sadly it does still rings across the entrepreneurship world.  Women start their careers in business with equal or maybe higher levels of intelligence, education, diligence and dedication just like men. Yet still many stereotypical views about women entrepreneurs are abounded.
But the truth is that women do often take pride in breaking out of them. One among the few widely discussed topics of today would be women in leadership and it is quite natural that these discussions are in turn attributing to the fact that more women are rising to gain leadership positions and becoming aware of their different roles as women in contemporary times.
Here are few reasons why women can make great leaders:
Tumblr media
Women are multi-taskers
Business with women have bigger tendency to grow more and few studies have proved it. According to a survey conducted by Dow Jones, a business and financial newspaper, business startups are more likely to succeed if they have women on their executive team. This is because women are best at multitasking and can balance various roles simultaneously.
Women are perfectionists
Women are better communicators and in terms of networking. This is one of the greatest skills any leader must possess. Being a perfectionist in her duty has proved her unique. As per a report on women and entrepreneurship in 2012, majority of female leaders expect more progress in business than male leaders.
Women are good listeners
Women have open minds and trust me, they are good listeners too even if it comes to good or bad things. Leaders should not just order or talk about their own terms, they must be ready to listen and engage others for ideas.
Women do take risks, when necessary
Being tagged “over emotional” can also be in this factor. Women don’t take risks for everything because they do put out their strategies and ideas calculatedly. But also like any other male leader, she wouldn’t mind taking a potential risk if the business market forces.
Women are flexible to changes
Women do have the ability to adapt to the inevitable changes that business and life bring and also still staying connected to the goals of business.
It’s your work that makes you a good leader
Indra Nooyi, the chairman of PepsiCo India quoted in one of her interviews, “PepsiCo did not have a woman in senior ranks and also there was no one willing to work differently. But I was” And she proved it too! Like her, there are many women who have brushed aside society rumored differences and become a successful leader and entrepreneur.  A woman can definitely be great leaders for they have a special recipe of success. Ask what? – Well, just being themselves!
