Sloooowly growing...
10 weeks on and I definitively cannot hide the strikes as easily now.
I'm a bit frustrated by the slow process (I know...I know...only 10 weeks and I was aware it will take a looong time to grow...) and my recent lack of imagination on hiding the strikes other than wearing beanies and hats.
I've tried following tutorials on YouTube/head wraps but my hair slips through the scarf and it doesn't look good on me...sigh...
Then on Valentine's night, when Hubby took me out for dinner, I decided to go without hiding, banking of low lights in the restaurant. It went actually pretty well, even forgot my hair (well, the food was DELICIOUS and Hubby surprised me with jewelry: it helped! LOL).
And I did it again at a friend's dinner: no hiding, but sincerely, I won't try it going out shopping or in broad daylight. I'm not ready for the staring.
So, beside the frustration about the slowness of the growing, I'm still excited and going on...
To end this post, very good article/ Sara Sophia Eisenman on Going Gray Blog, below:

Today I received a very supporting message from Lauren who is my inspiration/going grey;
"Oh I think you are wearing your badge so well! I know we all dread the "skunk stripe" , but it is your "badge of COURAGE!" Well done! Thank you so much for the link to your update post. I think your grays look beautiful, and I LOVE your new headpieces too! That's a wonderful idea to use the headpieces plus jewelry to distract. How fun and creative! I think as your "stripe" grows and turns more into a solid area of color, you'll really like it. Your silvers looks so bright and beautiful! I'm sending you lots of wishes for a speedy hair grow-out. Thank you for the update, I really enjoyed hearing how things are going! xoxoxo, Lauren"
Her message conforts me that I'm doing the right thing. And I soo appreciate her experience and her advices.
Please check her fabulous blog: http://howbourgeois.blogspot.com/p/its-gray-hair-party.html
She's a "must read"when you decide to go grey!

Skunk stripes
6 weeks on now.
And yes, I got my “badge of honor” of going grey: the skunk stripes!
3 inches of not so pretty growing roots.
I cannot wear my hair without headpiece anymore. I don’t feel comfortable going out without hiding these 3 inches.
I invested in some headpieces that I found at Beauty World for a very reasonable price.
The 2 first at the bottom of the photo are around 1$50 and the crochet/wool style ones around 4/5$.
Besides hiding my roots with headpiece , I try to divert attention from my hair by wearing big earrings or statement necklaces.
As I said in previous posts, starting to grow out my grey during winter time makes it a little bit easier. I can go out wearing beanies, hats, or crochet headbands without attracting attention.
But I’m now wondering how long I’ll be able to hide my roots with simple headpieces and soon I might have to learn how to do head wraps.
I’ve been looking for ideas on YouTube and it could be a good alternative.
Here one exemple of tutorial:

So far the growing of my grey roots has been going fine, even tough I wish it could go faster.
Yes, I know…it takes time…but patience has never been my best quality and I’m curious to discover what is underneath the remains of coloring.
I think that I might end up being salt and pepper and not completely grey/white. But I won’t be definitively sure before weeks.

I firmly believe there aren’t enough salt and pepper hair idols in our community. Period. I can’t decide if that’s because we live in a culture obsessed with youth or if this is a symptom of what happens when a movement gets created online. But I want to change that. So, meet the absolutely gorgeous model Teruko Burrell.

Week 4
It starts to show..a lot!!!
But it is still manageable going out with a headband , hat or beanie.
The normal time to fully complete the transition is about 18/20 months.
Long way ahead!
For now, I'm still ok with it as long as I can manage to hide the 2 colors stripes. I just regret that before going on the process I colored my hair with a burgundy/brown shade because now, the color is washing down and it's kindda reddish blah...and in a way, it makes the grey growing shows even more...
Don't know how I'm going to react when it will get worse...
Really thinking about stripping the color and go for a silver one to help smooth the transition...But as I said before , it needs professional help, it's harsh chemicals, pretty expensive and I'm a really on a tight budget.
Anyway...I'm still determined and I cannot wait to see my grey grow further...

Going grey is always seen as "getting old" then branded an absolute bad thing in a society that is obsessed by youth.
Going grey is accepting that you are different because lots of woman have grey hair in their 20's or 30's.
It's about accepting that you're getting older and considering the fact that so many people are denied the chance to get older...think about it...
Going grey is accepting yourself in another phase of your life...

Ok, here we go , photos of my transition
I’m on week 3 now and so far I’m still comfortable with it.
It doesn’t show that much.
I haven’t reached the “skunk stripes” phase yet and I can still sort of hide my roots.
Besides starting the whole process during winter time helps a lot.
I have plenty hats, beanies and I invested in 2 headpieces made of wool or crochet.
In a way, I’m pretty excited about my grey growing and I have to say, that being patient will be my biggest challenge. (Patience has never been my “forte” LOL)
But I’m really looking for to discover what is underneath years and layers of coloring…
