CONFESSION:
I feel Merrill is very under-appreciated in the fandom. It’s hard for me to find much of anything about that wonderfully ditzy elf. This should be remedied.

Conversation
Aveline: Isabela. That...demonstration you put on two nights ago in the Viscount's Way.
Isabela: Ooh. Are you going to arrest me, Captain?
Aveline: No. You did that on purpose and I will not be baited.
Isabela: Oh, come on!
Aveline: I will also no longer judge you for your...choices. I will make a concerted attempt to be understanding.
Isabela: What? Does this mean you'll no longer call me a whore?
Aveline: As you so rightly pointed out, whores accept gold for services rendered. You do not.
Isabela: But...
Aveline: Poxy tart. (Laughs) Had you there.

Fenris: I notice you hardly ever comment on mages and templars and such.
Varric: It's a lot of humans in skirts. I get them mixed up.
Fenris: I highly doubt that. The subject comes up all the time.
Varric: Tell me about it.
Fenris: And no opinion? One way or the other?
Varric: Opinions are like testicles. You kick them hard enough, doesn't matter how many you got.
Fenris: That's... something.

um ok but my favorite thing about da2 was always that the little “gather your party” things because they’re literally giant horns so i always imagined hawke blowing into one and then the sound would be heard all throughout kirkwall and the companions would be like “i have been signaled” and drop whatever they were doing and run over to wherever hawke was and i mean like that makes me really giggly i don’t know why

… Look, Aveline, I like you a lot. I really do. But.
We’ve had to forcibly stop Templars slaughtering mages, Qunari and Dalish elves. And by ‘forcibly stop’ I mean kill. We’ve also had to do things like work out what to do with an obviously mentally ill serial killer attacking elven children – and while there’s no resolution to that quest that isn’t bloody horrible, the point is that the ‘law’ seems primarily concerned with protecting the reputation of the nobility than with the wellbeing of any of the actual people involved. We’ve cut down armies of gangs in the streets. We’re getting bounties for slaughtering a gang of outlaws without trial.
Now a couple of elves have turned vigilante and run to the Qunari and ‘justice must be respected’?
Look. I get that, like it or not, the situation is politically delicate. The Chantry is a powerful institution that can, if miffed, bring the armies of nations down on your head. It also hates both the elves and the Qunari. This is a gross injustice before we even get down to the particulars. Negotiation is definitely in order here to get these people out of trouble, without immediately landing them in trouble again.
But let’s not talk about justice, all right? There’s none of that in Kirkwall.

shien-ra & egosumiustitia asked: skyrim or dragon age
“There are men who struggle against destiny, and yet achieve only an early grave. There are men who flee destiny, only to have it swallow them whole. And there are men who embrace destiny, and do not show their fear. These are the ones that change the world forever.”

I think my favorite thing about the Dragon age 2 companions is that they aren’t companions. They’re just your friends. An odd bunch of troubled people who all just so happened to live in the same city and get on really well together. There was no special world ending madness that drove them together and forced them to get along, they just ran into each other on the streets of Kirkwall. Yes there was the expedition, but even that was just a job. A simple job to get a few extra gold coins that turned into lifelong friendships.
