Oh my. 😳👉🏻👈🏻
Hiiii. How about some thigh fucking? It's knows that Shinichi loves Ran's legs, so it has got to happen. He can't stop staring and Ran shouldn't really feel this hot and bothered about the way he looks at her but she does. The make-out sessions are no longer enough now, they need more, so they go for it.
The timestamp of this ask is April 10, 2021 I am laughing as I type this. Please anon appreciate me, I tried after 3.5 years HAHAHA Couldn't get this request out of my head from the moment it entered my inbox three (3) years ago lmao. I labeled this post as mature, for obvious reasons :)

Kudou Shinichi has a tendency of blaming the universe for things beyond his control.
It only happens rarely, for Kudou Shinichi doesn’t bow down to fate, fate bows down to Kudou Shinichi. He’ll carve a solution against all odds. How many times has he cheated death?
But at this very moment, he is resigned to the thought that the universe is to blame for everything that led to here.
He blames the universe for having been born Japanese, lived in the same neighborhood, entered the same kindergarten as this girl turned girlfriend a good twelve years later.
He blames the universe for the abnormal surge of cases in Tokyo that consequently robs the girlfriend’s father’s time in the apartment, leaving him and her alone ‘til sunset.
Blames the universe for spring, because flowy skirts.
Blames the universe for summer for limiting her wardrobe choice to nothing but shorts, shorts, and short shorts.
Blames the universe for autumn, because thigh-high stockings.
Blames the universe or whoever created it for creating teenage hormones so rebellious, so perilously out of his control especially when he gets so much a peek of her skin. Just skin, the fuck. How else if more than that.
All these and more run in his mind while the girlfriend nestles between his legs doing homework under the kotatsu.
Naturally, he blames the universe for this moment.
Winter is a bitch, sweaters and heater aren’t enough. Mouri Ran suggests huddling. Now he levels with her nape, long hair conveniently let on one side. She scribbles notes with no care in the world while he inwardly chants a prayer. This is it. This is his demise.
He blames the universe for the aching hard-on in his pants.
But he is Kudou Shinichi, and while he’ll flip the universe off, he'll make absolutely sure to do something about the situation he’s presented. Else, he dies.
There are many ways to deal with this without hurting anybody’s feelings. He can excuse himself and let the rage subside in the toilet. He can request they sit side by side instead. He can offer to get them a takeout snack from Poirot. Literally those ways.
But not pull her closer by the waist.
He really isn’t helping himself. It’s dumb, but at the same time it seems it’s all he can manage to do. He clears his throat, a harmless statement whispered in her ear, “Ran, can we please, uh. Take a break.”
Amidst the impatient rush of blood southwards, he maintains a safe distance, not too close she could hear the erratic beating in his chest, and not too far that when her head swivels sideways their noses brush. Distance still matters to him, lest this - whatever he's doing - startles her.
“Hm? But we just took one fifteen minutes ago.”
Ran catches Shinichi’s eyes drift to the direction of the bed and back. She can't read if that gesture intentionally hints on something, or just a slip of his guilty thoughts. His eyes are so near she catches the details of his blues, blended with a certain kind of struggle.
Her body becomes aware of a bulge against her lower back. Ran's pulse kicks up a step.
“Let’s keep warm over there, please,” Shinichi requests, a hint of mild desperation in his tone.
When it takes her a while to reply, he notices his mistake. So much for devising ways to deal with hormones without offending anyone's feelings. With his last sane braincell, he wills himself to scoot further back, "No worries if you don't wanna! Though I k-kinda need to lie down a bit, Ran, haha, so—"
The disentanglement is halted when she holds his arms firm around her waist. Ran refuses to budge under the kotatsu. Instead, she clings onto the cuffs of his sleeve, startling him.
"Shinichi, um. But we're already quite comfortable here, don't you think?"
Like hell it is. Shinichi needs to break away. He can already sense himself growing by the second, exponentially so with the way she tilts her chin to face him fully, something he hasn’t seen before dancing in her eyes. Half mast, dilated, cozy and— and almost bedroomy.
What! Is she doing!
Shinichi's hands slide down her hips involuntarily. They stay in the kotatsu, plane of her back resting against his pecs through the hoodie. Everything is dangerously still. He gives her hips a light squeeze, she doesn't protest. He inches close, she presses near. "The hell, Ran..." He skims the line of her shoulder with his lips.
What! Is he doing!
He's acting on pure impulse now, the set of sane braincells in his head overpowered by the braincells of another one. A total defeat. God he's such a man.
And it maddens him so because not one bit does Ran seem to mind, whispering a light ‘should be fine here, right?’ when they're eye to eye. Shinichi nods in complete obedience. He swallows his nerves away, then closes the distance between their lips in one swift motion.
Inside his brain, the little Shinichi with pitchforks rejoices.
Perhaps the liplock is too earnest that a few minutes in, Ran finds her hips moving on its own, attention brought once more to the press of that bulge against her back. They part only for Ran to surge in again, denying them a moment to breathe.
Her hand creeps up behind, feeling the stiffness. She squeezes lightly. Shinichi groans in her mouth. No words are said, yet they seem to understand exactly what the other wants to do. She tugs on the garter of his joggers. His hands travel down her skirt, up her thigh. Shinichi loses his mind.
I'm going to hell, he thinks, as he finds his fingers trailing to the most heated part of her body. This isn't the first time. That's why he desires to get away at the earliest opportunity the moment he feels about to succumb to the universe's temptations, certain the day will end with his fingers buried in her, and she gasping in his arms. Exactly right now. Him stroking her above cotton, before slipping past it and slowly sliding in.
It frustrates him to feel this good hearing her moan his name, and it's only ever third base.
Only ever third base.
Shinichi blames the universe that he isn't yet married to Mouri Ran. Dear god, how the universe knows he's dying to fu—
He freezes at the cold touch of her hand slinking inside his boxers. Something inside him stirred. This is a first time. His fingers pause, his breath gets heavy. Ran breaks the kiss to look him in the eye, panting as she pulls his garments further down, "let's do it?"
Fuck.
Surprisingly, it's Shinichi who comes to senses first. "Do what exactly?", genuine inquiry seemingly asked in jest following a heated french in response to her straightforward request. Though clearly aware of what she’s insinuating, he needs to be absolutely certain of what stage they are about to do. Instead of giving verbal confirmation however, Ran doesn't stop stroking him, and Shinichi feels himself about to short circuit, making it worse when she adjusts the way she's seated to give her hand - and his fingers - more working space.
They are about to do it under the kotatsu.
Shinichi should be thanking the heavens right now, yet a part of him screams to save the end for a later time when they're older, readier. The sane side of him awakens, like a dying star in its last bursts of energy before imploding in on itself, just enough seconds to remind himself that he intends to take this step by step. There must be a way they can do it without doing it.
Hoisting Ran by the waist, Shinichi deposits her body slightly below his torso and leans back a bit. "Maybe we can..." The slight shift in position allows Ran to perch snug above him, legs between his outstretched ones. "Like this."
Ran appears reluctant to let go of her grasp, but in the new adjustment, she feels him against the underside of her thighs, rock hard. It only occurs to her what she just requested, and she flushes, suddenly hyperaware of the wild drumbeat inside her chest, the zero personal space. Her skin sensitive to the squeeze of his hand on her hip underneath her hoodie. His twitch beneath when his other hand finds purchase on the area between her skirt and overknee socks and begs her to 'open up a bit' and he groans her name, "Ran."
Dazed, Ran creates an opening. Shinichi slides himself in. Ran tightens the grip of her thighs. Shinichi moves.
It's like all the air is robbed out of his lungs.
How does he describe this sensation? He feels like a present, she the wrapper. "Been wondering 'bout this for a long time," is what he doesn't say aloud, as he looks over at the way her knees linked close, her upper thighs clamp. There is something sacred in the place where he enters her, an absolute territory he's actually been waiting to explore beyond sight. He's only ever stared in loaded silence, when she walks ahead, or climbs the stairs, or gets a book atop the shelf on tiptoes and skirt hiking up. Thoughts spurring in his subconscious going, what does it feel like to be trapped in there.
Unbeknownst to Shinichi, it's the singular best place to ever be. An absolutely fucking addicting territory to be in.
Ran squirms in place, unable to stray her eyes away from the rise and fall happening beneath her skirt. She needs to confirm that this strange hot activity with Shinichi is real. With shaky hands she lifts the hem of her skirt up and sees him. Wet on the tip. Protruding then disappearing. Rhythm synchronizing with the labored breath by her nape.
Overwhelmed by the budding heat in that area they create friction, she begins rolling her hips, matching his timing.
They are doing it under the kotatsu.
It drives Shinichi crazier when Ran requests to rise up to a kneeling position, her palms flat on the tabletop. They stay connected below, allowing him a more comfortable grip, a more open view of him thrusting between her thighs. Ran tips her head back and breathes the cutest moan when he picks up the pace. If he closes his eyes, he may actually believe they're doing it from behind, the sensation perhaps nearly tantamount to fucking her. And he might really seriously get to fuck her. Except that what they're doing now is already so damn hot neither wants to stop.
"Ah. You're—" something wet oozes slowly over him as he continues sliding in and out her thighs. Understanding what it is and what it means for his girlfriend is about enough to give him a heart attack. His hands enclose hers atop the kotatsu, sheathing and unsheathing faster, beads of sweat trickling down his forehead as he croaks out, "fucking warm, Ran".
He hasn't hung out in her room intending to do anything of this sort with Ran. It's just suddenly happened. And now he's afraid that once he finishes, he'll end up wanting more. The heat in him builds up, ever concentrated at the nerve ends of his shaft, desperately looking for where he can possibly do the unloading in the most respectful way. On the table. The fabric of her skirt. Her socks. Her thighs. He grits his teeth and inwardly curses.
Whatever the case is, he'll make a mess of her.
He blames the universe for how badly that turns him on.
Closing in, he warns Ran by the ear. "S'll be a lot," he says, and Ran, tongue-tied and keening, nods frantically. In a split second, Shinichi makes a decision - spilling over the table will ruin Ran's notes. So the final blow he does, painting the back of Ran's thighs, dribbling down the seam of her socks as he spurts out more, and more, and more, then sliding back again between her thighs, calming himself down with one hand on her hip and the other squeezing her breasts beneath the hoodie.
For Shinichi, everything burns.
"Can I..." Ran speaks first, over quiet gasps of air, "Can I um, remove my socks, I'm..."
"Shit," Shinichi rasps, unable to even out his breathing. "Hold on." Still in a bit of a haze, he slowly releases his grip on Ran's breast, sliding down to join his other hand on her hips. Even in his high, he tries his best to hold her ever so gently. He tries his best, despite the wave of shame that has begun to wash over him.
"Sorry, I couldn't—"
Before Shinichi can finish, Ran turns her head to look at him, and Shinichi knows. The lines of sweat, the slow ragged breaths, the gentle stoke of fire in her eyes, all tell him that for Ran, everything burns, too.
They fall silent for a brief second, holding each other's gaze. Until Ran giggles first.
It surprises him so because she’s giggling. She rolls the socks down one leg and Shinichi assists her in the other, thinking, if only he foresaw the positive feedback he'd get from this, he would’ve done this ages earlier.
“I think,” she begins, after she lets him clean her up with the dry portion of her discarded socks, the pair obviously going straight to the laundry. “That’s such a perverted thing to do.”
“Hey. Tha – !” Shinichi gives his retort a second thought, unable to control the red of his cheeks as he tucks himself inside his joggers. At least he accepts there is no use denying a fact.
“Don’t blame me,” he mutters, abashed, turning her around so she can see him pout. Maybe Shinichi will have to clean himself up too, later, alone, in the shower.
However, he notices that the fire in her eyes hasn’t disappeared.
“Whose fault is it then? Mine?” Ran asks, coy.
Fuck, not again.
Shinichi is supposedly mature enough to own up to his weakness, but until the end, even as he lays sprawled on the bedroom floor drowning in her kisses twice the intensity, even as he finds his hands roaming her backside to flip her so he comes on top, even as he lets her pull him free of his pants the second time that afternoon, the answer that leaves his smirking lips is, ‘definitely the universe’s.’

-Kpop idol Kazuha au
I think Kazuha might unintentionally raise her kids to become fluent in Korean.
During her 3 years of training and 7 years as a Kpop idol, she developed the habit of thinking in Korean/Hanguk instead of Japanese over time.
So even after returning to Japan, getting married, and having children, she still hasn't completely switched her "thinking language" back to Japanese.
Yes, she does speak Japanese with Heiji and everyone around her, but she couldn't exactly get rid of her habits from living in Korea for 10 years.
Especially during the first five years of her return to Japan, she constantly found herself mixing up Korean and Japanese words in her sentence.
Even her arguments with Heiji were often cut short because Heiji always laughed hysterically at Kazuha struggling to find the right words to express her anger and instead just gave up halfway.
So these are a few instances where she exposes her kids to the Korean language without realising:
- her singing Kpop songs when doing house chores
- her complaining in Korean to herself when she's feeling exhausted
- her watching K-drama without subtitles as her kids played in the living room
- her talking with her former group members on the phone
- her baby-talking to the kids in Korean before switching back to Japanese when she amusedly realises that she had a full-on one-sided conversation with her baby in Korean.
- her saying something in Korean by accident before restating it back in Japanese
So imagine her surprise one day when she found her kids watching Pororo on the Korean channel after she forgot to turn the tv off after watching a K-drama earlier.
Then, she offered to switch the language to Japanese, only to be met with loud protests and a "Mama! Pororo sounds better in Korean!"
She was pleasantly surprised, to say the least. She let her kids be as she went back to the kitchen to prepare dinner with a secretive smirk.
..............................................
"Papa can't we tag along with you to Tokyo?"
"I'm telling ya kiddos. I'm headin there for work"
"Aww I thought we could go play with the Kudos"
"Kazuha, help me out here please" Heiji looked at her across the table with plea in his eyes.
Unfortunately for him, Kazuha gave him a smirk before speaking in Korean.
"I also want to go see Auntie Ran"
"What do we do Mama? Papa doesn't want to let us go"
"I think we should go on a secret trip to Tokyo without Papa knowing"
The kids all cheered in excitement.
"on a plane?"
"on the train?"
Heiji looked around the table with wide eyes. "Oi oi since when can you guys speak Korean?"
"We were always able to understand Hanguk"
"Yeah, Mama doesn't realise it but she speaks Hanguk a lot at home"
"Mama also doesn't notice that she talks to us in Korean sometimes"
"Wait really?"
"See! She's doing it right now!"
Everyone at the table laughed while Heiji could feel a headache growing at the back of his head.
..................................................
"It's really nice of Nee-chan to invite me over for dinner" Heiji waited for Shinichi to exit the taxi as they arrived at the Kudo household. "The kids were actually begging me to bring them along to Tokyo the other day"
"Huh? What nonsense are you talki-"
"And get this. Turns out all along my kids could speak Korean. KOREAN KUDO!"
Shinichi was still confused with where this conversation was heading as they walked towards the front door.
"It's not that weird considering that Kazuha-chan lived in Korea for a whole decade"
Heiji's voice was excited to brag about his children. "My kids are bi-linguals! Ya can't deny that my kids are awesome"
Shinichi sighed at Heiji's competitiveness that still hasn't completely mellowed out through all these years. "No one said your kids aren't great, Hattori"
Shinichi took out his keys to unlock the front door as Heiji continued chattering "Anyways I can't stay long since I need to catch the last train to Osaka tonight"
Shinichi, who noticed the louder chaos than usual in his house and his friend's oblivious face finally caught on the actual big picture. "Hattori, I don't think you need to catch the train"
"Hah? What the heck are you talking abou-"
"PAPAAAAAA!!!!"
Shinichi laughed his heart out at the sight of Heiji's dumbfounded expression as the Hattori children clambered all over him.

-Heiji girl dad au.
One of the most horrible cases that Heiji solved was the murder of a young little girl who was barely five years old. The three suspects were the mother, the father and the live-in nanny of the little girl.
Murder cases always had a suspenseful air that he grew used to, but nothing compared to this. The mother wept and howled for her dead daughter. The father sobbed and was barely coherent during the interrogation. The nanny kept staring into blank space and the police struggled to get her attention.
Truly, a horrifying case.
The little girl was found in her bed, a knife to her chest. Despite being surrounded by dolls and plushies, forensics informed them that the little girl desperately hugged one particular toy in the brink of death : a Barbie doll.
Heiji kept staring at that bloodied Barbie doll, feeling a sense that he recognised it, but couldn't put a name to it.
He tried focusing on other aspects. But nothing helped. It was a locked room murder, and they still haven't found any key evidence such as the clothes the murderer was wearing. The suspects were all too out of it to get any more info.
But seriously, he knows he's seen that Barbie doll.
Forensics were finally done tracing and taking photographic evidence, so they began extracting the lifeless body. The mother's screams grew hysterical and the father wept louder and fell to his knees as their little girl was taken away.
Truly, he could only look away solemnly to prevent himself from imagining his own daughter in such a state.
Please, never.
He noticed an officer about to put away the bloodied Barbie doll into a ziplock bag.
"Excuse me, can I have a look?"
After wearing his gloves, he took the doll and inspected it. In true Barbie fashion, it had blonde hair, wore a pink dress and a pink tiara. The only noticeable difference is that this Barbie had a microphone in her hand and a built in necklace.
Wait, a built in necklace?
He realised something and pressed the heart shaped necklace.
A song played.
Everyone in the room stared at him as the Barbie doll in his hand started singing a song he's heard before.
He knew this doll. He knew which Barbie movie this doll was from.
A few months ago, Kazuha and their daughter were having a Barbie movie marathon in the living room and dragged him along. Despite his initial protests, they were able to shut him up by shoving some homemade Okonomiyaki into his mouth. One movie stood out to him because their daughter basically held a concert while watching the movie; Barbie the Princess and the Popstar.
And during a visit to the toy shop last week, she managed to secretly show him a Barbie doll she wanted before Kazuha caught her red-handed.
"Ya already have so many dolls at home"
"But Mama! It's Princess Tori!"
"Nope. Auntie Sonoko just bought ya a Barbie doll the other day. And YA BARELY EVEN PLAY WITH IT!"
"Papa!! Help me out please 🥺"
Heiji took one look at Kazuha's glare.
"Sorry Princess. Your Mama wins"
Their daughter looked at him with such an adorable sad face that he almost gave in. Luckily, Kazuha snatched the doll from his hands in time before walking away to place it back on the shelf.
As Heiji carried their crying daughter and rubbed her back to calm her down, Kazuha walked next to him outside the store.
"Trust me, she's not going to remember that doll at all when we get home"
And sure enough, when they reached home, their daughter turned on Youtube on their smart tv and watched Kpop girl group music videos instead.
"Papa, I like Le sserafim"
"Hmm? Why so?"
"Because Mama's in it"
"Hah?"
Kazuha laughed before explaining to him that one of the members is also named Kazuha. And just like the wonder of childlike innocence, her current favourite K-pop group is simply based on the fact that a member has the same name as her mother.
"How did she even found them?"
"I don't know. I looked away for just half an hour to cook dinner and then suddenly she's now a Le sserafim stan"
" ..... I'll try coming home earlier to reduce her screen time"
Suddenly, he realised the nanny's name: Hirai Tori.
Suddenly, it all clicked together and he started noticing little bits and details that he initially looked over because they were too circumstantial.
And sure enough, within minutes, he figured out where the evidence was and how she managed to perform an almost perfect locked room murder.
Almost.
When he cornered her with his deductions, the nanny stared at him wide eyed and her feet gave away "H-How?"
"I won't deny that you planned all of this really well. Unfortunately for ya, the one thing that gave you away was this Barbie doll"
"that Barbie doll?"
Heiji felt a prick of annoyance. "What the? You're her nanny and ya don't even know her toys? Ahou, this Barbie is a Princess Tori doll"
"Tori???" The nanny asked in rage.
The father, who barely managed to calm down, asked with a strained voice "so, our daughter was trying to tell us who killed her?"
Heiji contemplated whether to tell them the truth.
"THAT LITTLE BIT*H. I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M CAUGHT BECAUSE OF SOME STUPID DOLL"
The nanny lunged towards Heiji but the police were quick to restrain her.
"Even after death, that little monster still manages to ruin my life"
"No. You're wrong"
Heiji looked at her dead in the eyes.
"She's just a kid. She wasn't trying to ruin anything. It's simply the childlike innocence of hugging the one toy that reminds her of her beloved nanny for comfort "
After a moment of silence, the murderer was finally dragged away from the scene hysterically laughing at the irony of the situation. The parents broke down further into tears, holding each other in a futile attempt to console each other.
He heard some officers whisper of the possibility to make the murderer take a psychopath test, but for now he's exhausted and just wanted to go home.
To his own little girl.
..............................
"Tadaima"
"Okaeri" Immediately Heiji was caught off guard by a fluff of pink running into his arms.
"Woah there Princess!" he caught his daughter and lifted her up.
"Papa you're back! You can become Prince Charming and save me from the monster!"
"Who are you calling a monster you little brat?"
The girl shrieked and hugged Heiji's neck to hide her face while Heiji laughed watching his favourite two girls.
"Welcome home" Kazuha smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek. "Dinner?"
He nodded with a smile and three of them ate with the usual scenario of the little Princess chattering away whatever adventure she had today. However, Kazuha noticed that Heiji seemed a bit distracted whilst responding to whatever it is their daughter was saying.
In the background, the night-time news started airing on tv and the news reporter began reporting on a murder case of a little girl that happened just a few hours ago in Osaka.
Despite the tv being on low volume, Kazuha's sharp hearing caught the news reporter stating that the young girl was murdered by her nanny whom police suspected was a psychopath.
"Turn it off. Please"
Kazuha was surprised that the father-daughter conversation was interrupted by the sudden request, but she noticed him clenching his fists.
Oh.
That was his case.
Their daughter seemed unfazed by her mother getting up to turn off the tv or her father's tense face. She gobbled up the last remaining pieces of her meal and drank from her sippy cup.
"Papa! I'm done! Let's play!"
Heiji snapped out of whatever daze he was in. "What? Oh. Alright. But let me help Mama with the dishes first okay?"
Their daughter was about to pout before her mother came back to the table. "It's okay Heiji, I can handle the dishes"
"But.." Heiji looked at Kazuha in confusion. Kazuha smiled and whispered to him to go.
He looked at her once again.
She knew.
She knew exactly what was bothering him.
He thanked the lucky stars for the angel of his wife.
"Okay Princess. Let's go fight that big bad dragon you were telling me earlier"
"Yeayy!" Heiji picked his daughter up from her seat and carried her to the sink to wash their hands together. After drying off their hands, they start heading towards the living room.
On their way, Heiji managed to sneak a little kiss on Kazuha's head and a soft 'thank you'.
..............................
That night, for the first time in a long while, Kazuha suggested a 'sleepover' and have their daughter sleep together on their bed instead of in her own bedroom.
The little girl was delighted to be held in between both of her parents under their warm blanket. After a good night kiss from Mama and Papa, she drifted away to dreamland and slept soundly.
Heiji, who held his family close in his arms gazed at the two people he loves the most. He brushed his thumb over Kazuha's cheek gently, which prompted her to look up towards him sleepily.
"Kazuha"
"hmm?"
"Love you"
Kazuha smiled and held his hand that was holding her cheek. A few moments later, he watched as his wife also fell into slumber without letting go of his hands.
Truly, it was a horrible case that would likely continue to haunt him for the rest of his career. But for now, with his wife and daughter safe in his arms, he's going to be okay.
--------------------------------
I think I read somewhere before that in Japan, it's quite rare for people to actually say "I love you" literally even between parents and children. Something about saying "I love you" too often takes away the sanctity and meaning of it.
I kept going back and forth on whether Heiji would say 'thank you' or 'love you' before falling asleep because it is even rarer for men to directly express their affection verbally.
But you know what, I believe this case took a heavy toll on Heiji who he himself is now a father to his own little girl. And despite trying to (kinda?) hide it, Kazuha still caught on that the case disturbed him and so tried to calm Heiji's nerves by making him stay close to their daughter in small but subtle manners.
And I think that the subtleness is exactly what Heiji needed to calm down on his own instead of direct words and affection.
It would comfort him more to see his daughter jumping around and having fun with his own eyes instead of having someone tell him that their daughter is safe verbally.
Hence, the "love you" had a deeper meaning of thank you for understanding me. Thank you for knowing exactly what I needed. Thank you for being patient. Thank you for marrying me. I love you and I'm truly grateful for you. God damn I should have confessed earlier.
GOSHO AOYAMA MAKE THEM CONFESS PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU.

Just finished book 12 of Snow White With The Red Hair, I love it so much it has the same vibe of an early to mid 2000s manga even in the later volumes. *-*
Lately I've been too busy drawing to...uh...draw (ironically enough) so it feels like there's been nothing but (actual) photo posts around here. Apologies! Still, been chipping away at my to-read comics pile, and thus felt inclined to share/recommend some stuff I’ve been digging. I already posted the superhero stuff on twitter, but! THERE HAVE BEEN SOME VERY GOOD MANGA RELEASES IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS. As in, like, three of my favorite series. XD Definitely check those out if you haven't already! (Especially Snow White with the Red Hair. It's the Best and I need more people to get into it so that we can all collectively weather the hiatus together.)

"Mou, Shinichi. I already married you. No need to flatter me, silly."
She giggled and he couldn't stop staring at her. He can hardly even believe at what's in front of him. To him, she's the most ethereal thing to ever exist, especially in that long, white, silky dress.

Perfect summary. If you have the chance, go see the movie.
I'll forever be upset about how Elemental (2023 Pixar movie) flopped so hard, and it's not even its fault.
Let's be real, going against Across the Spiderverse would be a deathblow for any animated movie, but the marketing team REALLY didn't help matters. Not only did the trailers barely show up (to the point my friends DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT EXISTED), the trailers also did such a poor job representing its actual story.
A lot of people were turned off by the "unoriginal premise" as well as the "forbidden romance", and I can't even blame them but no!!! The story is so much more than just "ooo they can't fall in love because they're (gasp) FIRE AND WATER?!?!?!?" and "what if (insert concept) has emotions but elements this time"!!!!!
At the heart of it all is a personal immigrant story. A story about two fire people moving to another place in order to start a new and hopefully better life (aka literally immigrants). A story about their daughter who feels in debt to them for making the sacrificd to leave their home. A story about her feeling like she'll have to sacrifice her whole life and her dreams in order to repay them and make them happy.
Not to mention how Asian-coded it is!!! The director, Peter Sohn, is clearly writing from his perspective as a Korean-American immigrant, and as an Asian immigrant, I resonated so unbelievably hard with Ember's story. It really felt like the movie held up a mirror in front of me. I've never felt this seen in a movie before this one.
And it feels so good!!! I'm so sad that a lot of people will be missing it out because the marketing team did such a terrible job at their literal jobs. If more people gave it a chance, they'll likely find a story that truly made them feel heard.
Also the romance is really cute. Like I don't typically seek out romance stories, but damn that was good food, that was good fluff. I think it's also a great allegory for interracial couples, but I'm not in an interracial relationship, so I won't overstep too much!
Long story short, if you're unsure on whether you really want to see this movie or not, hear it from me who saw it twice:
Go Watch Elemental!!! You will not regret it!!!

A very fine read, as always! :)
Day 1: Forced rest
A/N: Wohoo, I made it! At least I got one entry ready for ShinRanWeek2023! It had been a hectic and challenging semester because there had been so many new things for me besides studying, but the summer holiday is almost here, and to be honest, I really need it. I started to write this fic last week, and oh boy, how much I have missed writing fics. And I have missed you guys so much! I hope you have been well ❤
But yeah, what can I say... This is based on something I experience some weeks ago, though I didn't have anyone to tell me to rest, but then I thought that maybe I should write about this and make a cute entry for ShinRan week :3 I also want to remind you guys to rest when you feel like it! I know it can be sometimes hard to do nothing when there is so much to do, but remember that after a good rest, you have enough energy to do things ❤
But yeah, enough of this, I hope you enjoy this! (And I'm still so bad with naming my fics so don't worry, nothing had changed xD)
Forced rest
She wasn’t the one who gave up easily. She had always worked hard and done her best. And even though it had sometimes felt like there is so much to do and not enough time to rest a little bit, she had encouraged herself with the thought that it would be over soon. Those busy times always were over sooner or later, and she knew that after that, she had time to rest and take a little bit easy before the next rush period.
But now, as much as she tried to encourage herself, remember the price she would get as soon as she would be done, she felt like she had met her limits. It was unusual and hard to accept, but somehow she needed to face the truth. Even though she felt like she had slept well, she felt awfully tired. She tried to make little goals and do even a little bit of some of her schoolwork - because even though it would be a little bit, it would be progression. But whatever schoolwork or textbook she looked at or tried to read, her eyes felt tired. It felt like there was a huge wall in front of her that kept her from reading and that made her feel desperate. She wasn’t even sure how long she had just sat on the living room couch, staring at that open book in her hands, but she was aware that she hadn’t read at all, not even a word. The only reason why she still sat there, trying to push herself to read, was the fact that the day after tomorrow she would have an exam. She also tried to cheer herself, reminding herself that after she would have read, she would deserve to go on a date, but…
She just… couldn’t. She just couldn’t do it. And only the thought made her want to cry.
She just wanted to shut the book and go back to bed. God, she wanted so badly just go to bed, under her blanket and just be there, cry a little bit. Just forget studying even for a moment, and… and…
But she couldn’t do that! If she would, she would lose time to prepare for exams and continue her school works. And it wouldn’t take too long if she would do them now! If she would just start, she would be done much sooner than if she would leave it for tomorrow with all the other things she had planned to do…
“Hey…”
It made Ran startle a little bit. Fast she raised her head to look at Shinichi, who stood behind her, touching her shoulder. How she hadn’t realized his presence at all? It wasn’t like Shinichi sneaked around the house, but then again, he wasn’t the loudest one either.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing”, she answered automatically and smiled. She saw how he just stared at her for a moment before he let go of her and went around the couch. She followed how he came closer to her before sitting beside her. Those blue eyes turned to her, looking serious and yet gentle.
“I know I can be stupid and blind and what else”, he said, making Ran let out a little laugh. “But this time I can see clearly that something bothers you. Even that smile of yours can’t fool me.”
Keeping that smile on her lips, Ran turned her head, looking down at her book that was resting on her lap. She just saw letters and words that tried to tell her something about the research on Japan’s social welfare and what those results mean, but nothing more. She didn’t know what was examined, she didn’t know the outcomes, she didn’t know if the results were good or bad, and she didn’t know what could be done to make anything better.
She had never felt so powerless. So hopeless.
How did Shinichi do it? They had started their studies at the same time, and he studied criminology, which - in Ran’s opinion - felt much more gibberish than studying social work. At least social and health services were something they faced commonly and got some kind of idea of it already when criminology was something that hid so much more than people could think of. She thought that studying criminology would take much more time and work, but as much as she had observed Shinichi, he seemed always to be okay. If he was tired, it was because he had stayed awake too late, not because he would have studied that much. And he still solved crimes from time to time, which was taken from his free time, but he still got enough time to study and do well in school, with exams.
But maybe it shouldn’t have been a big surprise. Shinichi had always been smart and good with everything he had done. He had been interested in crimes and cases as long as Ran could remember, he had always paid attention and probably learned many things long ago. And if he hadn’t known something, he had always been interested to find out. There were no questions without answers if it came to Shinichi.
Maybe he knew so much more about criminology than Ran had thought. And maybe it was the reason why studying seemed to be so easy for him.
Of course, she was happy about that and so proud of him! Why wouldn’t she? But the thing was, she envied him a little bit. He made studying look so easy.
“Hey, Ran…”
Again she got out of her thoughts, but instead of looking at Shinichi, she turned to look at how his hand touched hers that kept still that book open. His fingers touches hers, and even though the touch wasn’t anything big, it soothed her a little bit.
Actually, she felt like that little touch just made her want to surrender, let it all go and just cry, hide in his arms and just be there, feel calm and safe, forgot the school and everything else.
But she couldn’t do that.
“You are tired.”
And somehow, that one, simple statement made that wall between her and studying to broke. She felt how tears started to slide down her cheeks, and before she realized to do anything, the first one dropped on the open page.
Great. Now she was ruining the library’s property.
She felt how Shinichi took off his hand, making her feel a little bit lonely and lost before she felt his arm on her shoulders, pulling her closer to him. She leaned on him, closing her eyes and hiding her face on his neck. “Hey, no need to cry”, Ran heard him say, and when she felt the book moving away from her hands, she let it go. She knew that she should keep thigh hold on it, but… “It’s okay, you know…”
“How is it okay?” Ran asked with a broken voice and slowly wrapped her arms around him. “Deadlines are coming and a day after tomorrow is an exam, and I still have so much to do…”
“And when you rested last time?”
Ran shut her mouth. She tried to remember a day when she hadn’t done anything to study. “Well, at the weekend”, she answered finally.
“No”, Shinichi said, making Ran get away from him enough to look at him. “I mean when you have time to be just yourself? Doing nothing?”
Ran frowned. “I told you, at the weekend…”
Shinichi sighed. “You met Sonoko and your mother on the weekend, you know.”
“Yeah, and I didn’t do any school work…”
“Doing them or not, seeing and being with others takes energy too”, he said, making Ran only frown even more. “So it doesn’t count.”
Ran just stared at those confident eyes. God, she hated how he was right. She hadn’t had much time to see Sonoko or her family because of school, so when she got a chance, she had agree to see Sonoko on Saturday and on Sunday to spend time with her mother and later to see how her father was doing. She had thought that meeting them would be her time to rest and do something fun, but she couldn’t lie, on Monday she had been so tired. She had felt like she hadn’t rested at all. The weekend had just taken her energy, not giving any, even though she have had a nice time with them.
He was right. Maybe it couldn’t count as free time and rest. But if that’s the case…
She couldn’t give him any answer.
“Let’s go back to bed, okay?”
Ran raised her eyes to look how Shinichi stood up and turned to her. He looked at her gently while offering his hand.
“Back to bed?” Ran repeated. “But…”
“No buts”, Shinichi interrupted her. “You’re going to rest today and do nothing.” He looked away for a moment, like thinking. “Well, maybe I can let you watch some movies or series if you want”, he continued before his blue eyes came back to her again. “But no studying, no housework, no texting or calling friends or family, and no date.”
She felt like something heavy dropped on her heart and sink it somewhere deep down. “What?!” Ran almost screamed and felt so disappointed when she stood up. “No date? But you reserved the table from…”
“I decline it”, Shinichi said like it wasn’t a big thing. “We can go any other day.”
Ran stared at Shinichi for a moment hoping to change his mind, but it was worthless. His expression didn’t change. He had made up his mind. Ran let her eyes drop to the floor, feeling so disappointed. Actually, she felt like a child who hadn’t got a toy from the shop. God, she had really, really waited for that date with Shinichi. She had waited so badly to get dressed in her new dress and just go outside, to enjoy the good food and lovely company, just do something nice together and forget everything else…
Like she wanted to stay at home, on the bed, doing… nothing.
She felt how Shinichi stepped closer, putting his hands on her hips and pulling her gently closer, giving her a chance to stop him. “You really need to rest, Ran”, he said eventually, pressing a kiss on her forehead. “You always do something, but sometimes you need to stop and just take time for yourself.”
Ran lowered her head. She eyed the book on the coffee table. As much as she wanted to take that offer, but… “But I still need to study, you know”, she said and she realized how weak she sounded. “I have an exam…”
“But you are able to read more if you rest well occasionally”, Shinichi said. “Besides, I believe that you do fine without reading.”
Ran rolled her eyes. “Oh, so you want me to fail?” she asked and glanced at him annoyed.
“No”, he answered. “But you are smarter than you give yourself credit for.”
She doubted that. But then again, maybe he had a point. Just now, she would just waste her time just staring at that book, being unable to read anything. She wouldn’t get anywhere and she wouldn’t be any wiser in the evening. She knew she should rest, and after good rest, she would feel better and would be able to read more.
But just being on the bed, doing nothing…
But then again, who said she should stay in bed alone? If she wouldn’t get her date, she would take her date with her to bed to rest with her.
Like Shinichi would stay in bed with her if she would ask him. That was the same for both of them: they weren’t good at staying in bed doing nothing if demanded. It needs to be decided by themselves, and if Shinichi had other plans…
Well, maybe she knew how to make him stay.
“Well, maybe you’re right”, she admitted finally with a sigh and looked at Shinichi. She showed her a hopeful smile. “And after I feel rested enough, I can continue…”
“No”, Shinichi stopped her. “No, you rest today.”
“But…”
“I said already, no buts”, he interrupted determined. “You are going to stay in bed the whole day.”
Ran rolled her eyes. “Come on, I can’t do that…”
“Yes, you can”, Shinichi said. “I make sure of it.”
Ran smiled. “How?”
Shinichi looked at her confidently. “I roll the blanket around you.”
Ran shook her head. “I can always flee, you know.”
Before she knew it, he wrapped his arms tightly around her, making her body press against him, leaving no room to move. “Then I have to keep you on that bed.”
Ran grinned like a winner. It had gone just as she had wanted. “You can’t keep me there a whole day”, she challenged, knowing that he would never want to lose to her…
“Watch me”, he answered, and she felt a kiss on her hair. “I keep you there the whole day if I have to.”
As she wanted. If she had to stay in bed, she would make sure that he would stay with her.
But then she remembered one more problem…
“But if we don’t go to eat, then what are we eating?” she asked. “We don’t have anything ready.”
“Don’t worry about that”, Shinichi answered. “I handle it.”
She smiled mischievously even though he couldn’t see it. “Oh, are you going to cook?”
“You can say that”, he answered, making Ran giggle. Then he let go of her, and before she was prepared for it, he bowed a little to put his arm back on her knees and raised her on his arms. Even though it wasn’t the first time he did that, it was always a surprise, taking her off her guard. This time she didn’t let out a shriek, but her heart still skipped a beat while she wrapped her arms around his neck, making sure she wouldn’t fall…
“And you can wish whatever you want to eat”, he continued and turned, starting to walk towards the hallway. “I can make it happen.”
“Wow, big things are promised”, she said as she started to relax a little bit. She still was a little bit worried about those stairs, but he seemed to be sure to carry her to the second floor. “And who tells what I’m going to do when you leave to get that food…”
“It isn’t that long trip from the bed to the door”, he answered. “You don’t have time to flee, or if you do, I’m going to catch you again.”
Ran rolled her eyes, but still smiled and let herself lean on him. She closed her eyes and somehow felt already a little bit relaxed in his arms.
Well, maybe spending a day on the bed with him wouldn’t be that bad.
