If anybody ever wonders which Greek TV Show deserves to be on Netflix, the answer is always going to be Sto Para Pente.

And I have proof.

Because I showed my friend from abroad who doesn't speak nor understand Greek the first episode, found with English subtitles on a corner of the web, and then she wanted to watch the second one too.

And when there was no subtitled second episode, she decided, if it was okay with me, the resident translation graduate who'd have to do most of the work, that we could watch it in Greek.

And that's how we wound up watching the other 48 episodes.

Because my friend liked it. Genuinely liked the show, the characters, the plot, the messages. She found it funny and touching and brilliant.

So, if someone could like it so much even without understanding everything (I tried), imagine how many people it could touch if it ever became fully accessible.

This reminds me of my long term goal to have a character in a fic of mine call Alfred a “spook motherfucker” the second they meet him because they were in the military and they know a spook (retired or not) when they see one.

Bonus points if it’s said like, right in front of Thomas Wayne while he’s trying to hire Alfred. Alfred, who insists he didn’t have anything to do with the military (technically true after a point) and absolutely knows the difference between silver plate polish and silver polish.

If there’s a piece of writing you love, that makes you wish you had the ability to do what it does, the tools you're looking for are inside the story itself. Fiction is rarely mysterious in how it works. All you have to do is pay attention with the right mindset.

What you’re looking for is cause and effect, set-up and pay off. What does that piece of dialogue set up a) within the scene and b) later in the narrative? What purpose does this moment serve for the story as a whole? Can you identify the turning points within the scene and the turning points in the larger narrative? How do they fit together? You’ll find these things tend to fall into general patterns. Don’t get distracted by focusing on character details, analysis, or speculation! Fandom tends to overemphasize character to the exclusion of everything else. You probably already know how to analyze characters, but how much time do you spend thinking about the mechanics of the narrative? If you can figure out what makes the stories you love work, you can teach yourself to do any kind of storytelling you want to.

I think that Jayce is a bit of social chameleon actually, like he tends to "match" the vibe of whoever he is hanging out with, and that's part of the reason why every time he's with Vi things go completely haywire (part of the reason, some of it just seems to be like cosmic bad luck or something).

Because Vi is extremely direct and tries to kind of brute force stuff like a lot, and Jayce going along with that equals things like both of them trying to punch/smash shit until it's better. Vi is someone who views every problem as a nail and Jayce is like "well I guess I do have a big hammer" and it goes poorly.

But it's not just Vi! Jayce does this with basically everyone. I mean he disagrees with people, he's not facetious or a doormat or any kind of yesman. He just also kind of goes, oh, I guess we're doing X now? And then does his own thing in the tone/style of X.

Like when he's spending a lot of time around Heimerdinger, he's a lot more cautious, methodical, but also he lets his idealism run more of the show. He's very cognizant of risk, because Heimerdinger centers risk as his chief concern when he talks with Jayce about his research.

Whereas when he's spending most of his time with Viktor, the priority is innovation. Coming up new ways of utilizing and interpreting their research and data. Testing the limits of what it can do and then figuring out how to take it even further. Caution takes a definitive backseat to the countless possible applications of hextech.

Then when he's with Mel, he gets more image-conscious. How's his research going to be perceived? What will the legacy of it be? He focuses more on his role as a councilor and a social figure, less on his priorities as an inventor, because Mel's focus on hextech is its social clout and what it means for the city, and Jayce starts reflecting that (whereas his initial spiel about bringing magic to the masses seemed more of a "people in general" sense rather than a "Piltover specifically and maybe even exclusively" one).

Anyway I guess what I'm getting at is that whoever Jayce is with, he will try and match their freak. Which is why it's probably a good thing that he was on opposite ends of the narrative from Jinx, but also is contributing factor to why he and Viktor together nearly destroyed the world.

You should wear this instead.” “Hal, I’m not—” “Hold it for me then- as thanks for throwing the trash away and feeding you.” “I didn’t ask to be fed,” Bruce says as he takes the flight jacket anyway, putting it on with a slight smile and an eagerness Hal didn’t expect. “Yeah, well…” Hal just shrugs. They walk, the two following behind everyone in silence, content to listen to the chatter before Hal speaks again. “You know,” Hal looks at Bruce in the jacket, looking at the patch with his last name, heart racing, “my last name does look good on you.” “Is that so?” “It is.”  “Hm.” Bruce smiles a little wider, tone still joking. “I’ll take it into consideration before our wedding then.” Being away from Gotham's stress must be good for the man.
