i love soft mutual pining roadtrip aus because they boil down to “local dumbasses need to travel thousands of miles together in a cramped vehicle and needlessly share shitty motel beds in order to finally admit they’re in love with each other”

I just listened to the Infinite Noise audiobook, and now I'm hella curious what reading this book is like for people who's never listened to the podcast.
Cuz the book brings up a bunch of things and drops them, like Damien and Chloe and even the AM. I almost wonder if book-only people ever expected a sequel or continuation. Also their break-up/make-up situation only takes up the last 10% of the book, which just feels weird pacing-wise. IDK just seems like it would be trippy to a newcomer

in honor of Damien Gorham's 35th birthday (yep, you heard me, I'm not only celebrating a fictional character's birthday, but the birthday of my own character), I wanted to share my favorite Damien-related excerpt from Some Faraway Place.
it wasn't a conscious choice when I was first sketching out the three Bright Universe novels, but Damien is the only character from the podcast who appears in every book. he's a character I have such complicated feelings about (a feeling I think a lot of listeners/readers share), but with SFP being the last time we hear from him in the universe, I wanted to make sure we left him in a place where he finally was growing.
you don't always get the forgiveness you want from the people you hurt. but that doesn't mean you don't deserve forgiveness at all, or that you can't do better in the future. it's been six years since Damien sent this letter and, while I imagine he's still got a lot of work left to do, I like to think he's out there somewhere, doing better, letting himself love.

Mark and Damian did Barbenheimer and both very stoically pretended not to cry. Mark spent time looking up the history he missed on nuclear weapons when they got home. Damien secretly bought himself a ken doll the next day.
Caleb and Adam did Barbenheimer and both immediately told their moms how much they loved them. Then Adam talked about how much of a douche Oppenheimer was, while also pointing out all the celebrity cameos that went over Caleb’s head

So now that this has been public for a while, can I ask @thebrightsessions to PLEASE add a cw for sexual coercion for the Order and Chaos mini series? Spoilers and CW for sexual coercion below the cut:
:readmore:
The basic summary of this story involves these two characters, who do not like each other, are coworkers, and generally have many reasons to dislike each other. They are trapped in some pocket dimension, which is also inhabited by two women who are romantically involved but are ghosts.
The ghosts essentially offer the two people an ultimatum: Let them possess their bodies to have sex, since they haven't touched each other in years, or be trapped in the pocket dimension forever.
Most of the mini series is the two humans arguing about why they don't want to, discussing ongoing events that require their presence, and eventually pushing down their discomfort to consent to the ghosts do with their bodies as they will, just so they can leave.
It is depicted as ultimately the correct choice. The ghost wives are depicted as tragic lovers, and the humans are depicted as being brave for "putting aside their differences" and making the "right" choice.
Is there a one-to-one comparison to any real world form of sexual coercion? Probably not. Is it still a form of coercion that forces people involved to consent to sexual acts without complete free will? Yes.
I listened to this when it came out on luminary. I also made a post about this then, but to be honest, I just don't think enough people were listening to the show to the show to generate any sort of conversation about this.
I'm bringing it up again because, a year later, I still find it upsetting and triggering. I can't be the only one. I still think about how no one looked at the script and raised a single question.
Look, I'm not trying to cancel TBS or anything. I just want a content warning. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Joan: We call that a traumatic event
Joan, turning to Caleb: Not a "bruh moment"
Joan, turning to Adam: Not a "major L"
Joan, turning to Mark: And definitely not an "OOF lmao"
