Intention-setting ritual for the Spring Equinox
The Spring Equinox (or Ostara) takes place around the 20th of March in the Northern hemisphere, and 20th of September in the Southern hemisphere. This day, on which night and day are equally long, marks the beginning of spring. From now on the days will get increasingly longer until the Summer Solstice (Litha; Midsummer) around June, 20. As the Earth comes back to life and plants begin to grow, it is the perfect time to set intentions.
Tumblr media
Ideally this ritual would take place at sunrise, but any other time of the day is also fine.
What you need: at least four candles, a newspaper page, scissors, a pen, soil, water, a seed
Prepare yourself for the ritual in whichever way you prefer. You might ground yourself, do a ritual bath, burn some incense, meditate on or use divination tools to reflect on what you are grateful for and would you wish to see come true, cast a circle, ...
Begin the ritual by placing the candles in a large circle around you. If you have limited space, it also works to place them in a smaller circle in front of you. Then, light them one by one beginning in the East.
Think about the intention you wish to set. If you are unsure, take your time to reflect on it. Then, visualise it. Imagine what it would be like if your intention was already coming true. See it having its effect as the days grow longer and warmer, as more and more plants grow from the ground. When you feel ready, take your pen and write down your intention on the piece of newspaper. It can be a word, a sentence, a paragraph, or simply a symbol or sigil.
If you are doing the ritual with more people, you can talk about your intentions if you feel comfortable with it.
Fold your newspaper into a seed starter pot (instructions can be found here) and fill it with soil. As you water the soil and place your seed in it, visualise the seed growing into a strong and healthy plant and your intention manifesting to become reality.
Say the following words:
"The light has returned and life begins to grow
Along with this seed an intention I sow
By the warmth of the Sun
By the strength of the Earth
My will be done
To [your intention in one word] be given birth"
End the ritual in the way that feels best to you, i.e. by giving thanks to your god(s)/ ancestors/ the Earth/ the universe/ ..., closing the circle, ...
Let the candles burn down or, if you can't do this safely, snuff them out.
Tumblr media
Feel free to adapt this ritual to fit your practice - make it your own!

Note
Hello! Is there any rituals/spells for beginners that are based on the spring equinox you could share?
🍃 This is a great time to do some spring cleaning! If it’s warm enough you can even open the windows and let some of that spring breeze in to stir up and move out the old.
🌸 It is also a great time to plant seeds or purchase some flowers. I’ll be decorating my altar with budding branches. Or a bowl with floating petels in a ring can be a powerful tool for manifesting spring energies in your home.
🍯 As for foods: seeds, honey, and eggs are popular but the list just goes on and on.
🐇 It might be a little taboo but sex and masturbation are also very much intune with the theme of the season.
🐣 If your new, most Easter traditions have roots in pagan practices such as dying eggs, the Easter bunny, so on. Feel free to keep these familiar traditions.
Heres A Very Very Basic Ritual for Beginners, Closeted, or Practical Witches:
Make yourself a snack highlighting a seasonal food/drink. Spring onions, honey, eggs, seeds, edible flowers, whatever is local or easily accessed by you.
Find a sunny spot to lay or sit in the sunshine, soaking it in with your snack in your lap.
Break off or spill a small portion of your food and hold it gently in the light making a toast or offering. (This can be done inside but maybe dont spill grape juice or wine on your floor). My spring well-wish is “ A warm spring to you and yours”. Its simple, but its genuine and its me. I like it. Feel free to use it or make your own.
Take a bite/sip of your snack with one hand and leave the offering portion in the sun.
Continue to sit there and soak in the sunlight. Feel it dethawing your bones and awakening your core.
While this may not be the big circle of candles with specific ingredients and chants, it can be just as meaningful for people who prefer or are required to take a more subtle or practical approach. Personally I’m not huge on elaborate formal rituals and these little acts are what stir me inside, I hope some of you enjoy this as well.

Samhain
Activities
Put up wards to keep out unwanted spirits
Put jars of salt by your door to protect your home
Sprinkle some salt in your mouth right before you go to bed to protect your dreams
Light candles to help guide spirits
Tell stories of dead relatives and friends
Write about the dead in your book of shadows
Give offerings to your ancestors
Pray at your altar
Cleanse your space with incense
Drink hot drinks
Bake bread or pies
Add fall recipes to your book of shadows
Paint and decorate pumpkins
Contact spirits through divination
Ask for advice from your ancestors
Be thankful for the food you have
Dust and tidy your altar
Look at pictures of deceased loved ones
Dress in fall colors
Go for a walk in nature, observe the leaves turning. Consider the cycles of life and death that govern our world.
Light a bonfire/small fire (safely!) and burn papers with things that no longer serve you, that you cannot afford to take into winter.
Make an offering to your deities or ancestors
Make food with seasonal ingredients symbolic of the final harvest: squashes, pumpkins, grains, apples, spices. Even wine, if you’re allowed to drink.
Prepare your home and yourself for the coldest part of the year. Redo protection spells, clean out clutter, develop sustaining spells for winter.
Reflect on the past year. What did you lose? What people left your life, what things no longer hold meaning for you? How did you change as a person?
Work with various forms of divination, like runes, pendulums, tea leaves, or tarot.
If you do work with ouija boards you better be SUPER DUPER careful. Do not neglect protections, and if you feel uncomfortable, stop, protection spells and cleanse, cleanse, cleanse.
Give some time or money to a cause you’re passionate about. If your harvest is abundant, give back to those who were not so fortunate.

Magickal Misconceptions
There are so many types of magick and along with them, so many types of witches! Learning from other witches is a wonderful way to make friends and immerse yourself into witch craft.
Sadly though, things get mixed up or lost in translation, so I asked some of my witchy friends to help me come up with some misconceptions about magick and witchcraft. Feel free to add anything!
Misconceptions about Witches:
Witches don't worship the devil. In fact, most witches have no involvement with the biblical devil. (a lot of witches don't even believe in the biblical devil tbh) That being said, there are certainly some witches who do.
Witches are not evil. Some of the nicest people I've ever met are witches. Even before I started practicing, most of the witches I met were sweethearts. That being said, witches are still human so there are 100% some mean witches out there. Steer clear of them, we do not claim them.
Witches are not inherently wiccan. Wicca is a religion started by Gerald Gardner in the 1900s. The religion has branched off and created different types of Wicca since it's creation.
Witches aren't strictly female. Without going too deep down the rabbit hole of gender, just know that male and nonbinary witches exist and are just as magickal as female witches.
Not all witches deal with spirits/ghosts/other worldly beings. You don't need to deal with any other worldly existence to be a witch. If you just want to use earthly items like herbs and stones and never touch spirit work then that is totally fine.
Not every witch follows the wheel of the year. That is a neopagan creation, melding Celtic and Anglo-Saxon holidays. There is no right or wrong to this fact. So long as you're honoring these holidays by learning their origins you are doing great.
You don't have to sell your soul to be a witch. That's it, that's the end of the fact.
Misconceptions about Witchcraft:
You don't need every single item in a spell book to make a spell happen. I am a college student so obviously I don't have the money to buy every herb and rock I want. (though that'd be nice) But the idea that you need all of these things to create magick is wrong. Ultimately it is your willpower and intent that will create magick.
Smudging is not smoke cleansing. Smudging is a specific ritual used in some Native American cultures. Smoke cleansing is using a bundle of herbs or even an incense to create some smoke and use that to cleanse an area, person, or object.
Magick isn't free, in the sense that spells don't suddenly make things appear or make things be how you want them to be. If you don't put any work into whatever it is that you've done a spell for then it's not going to manifest.
Your practice will be different from others and that's ok. Witchcraft is a very personal thing. You're more than welcome to learn from other witches and teach other witches but just know that it's ok if people practice differently from you.
Pop culture magick isn't "fake magick". This one is more of an opinion but I think ragging on pop culture magick is distasteful. Magick now, even if you try your best to be as close to ancient rituals and magick as possible, is different than how it used to be. Magick evolves with magick users.
That's all that I can think of right off the top of my head, but feel free to add to this! If you would like clarification on any of these let me know either by replying to this or sending me an ask.
Have a wonderful day!

A simple water spell to ease depression
And live authentically
⭐🌌🌙✨💜
This spell is something I came up with for my own personal use and i decided to share for anyone else who ever feels like they are drowning in depression. I of course always recommend professional medical help, but some days can be especially tough and this spell is designed to be easy and helpful.
Tumblr media
For this spell you will need:
- water
That’s it.
I like to do this in a bath surrounded by lavender and rose quartz but I believe spells should be highly customizable. Add to this any herbs, stones or extra elements you feel will enhance your intentions! A bath is not the only way to use water. Try making a refreshing moon water spray bottle and mist yourself for the spell! Or make it into a potion and drink it! As long as there is water it will work!!
The spell itself:
In this water let me see
An image of tranquility
Of my heart and of my head
Wash away doldrums and dread
Let this cleansing set me free
To live my life authentically
By the power of water which flows in me
As I will it so mote it be

Happy pride month to gay men who don’t fit the idealised “skinny white boy” image! To black, brown, Latino, and Asian gay men who are constantly assumed to be straight just because of your ethnicity. To gay Sikh and Muslim men who receive far to little recognition. To fat gay men who have to deal with fatphobia and body shaming in a community that is supposed to be safe and welcoming. You are all valid and important members of the gay community, and the lgbt community as a whole 🌈
