main interests: reading, writing (poetry and short fiction), music (both consuming and creating), cooking, Dungeons and Dragons, video games, cartoons

smaller/niche interests: DIY emo music (feel free to ask me about this!), terrariums/vivariums/etc, DnD podcasts, alt/goth fashion

i like reading both YA and adult genres, and i like fantasy, historical fiction, horror (especially paranormal), and most nonfiction books :) (depends on the subject ofc)

Smoke and Snow (a poem)

(TW, just in case: cigarettes/smoking)

my head on his shoulder,

i look through the curtain of deep brown curls

to the window, between the blinds, to the world

where the white winter light comes in

and tells me that it’s morning again

my head on his shoulder,

he holds me and says goodbye

and i drive home with my headlights on high

even though it’s morning still

because the snow is fast and heavy but the cars heater warms me well

this winter has felt colder

even though the planet’s heating up

but i don’t think nature cares too much about what i think

she’ll bring the cold winds

and the ice on my balcony

and the heavy blinding snow

and she’ll bring no rain as my world goes up in smoke

so there is truly nothing colder

than the feeling of a snowy night when the silence is deafening

while i stand on my apartment balcony

a lighter in one hand, a cigarette on the railing

and i’m wondering if the smoke i see

is really smoke at all

or just my hot breath in the cold air

we named it the computer mouse because it fit so comfortably in our hands and it reminded us of ancient times where our ancestors put their palms over the backs of cave mice and shuffled them across the ground to move the cursor on their cave wall mounted gaming monitors

I love it when people use "shrimp" to mean "beyond the human range". like "shrimp colors" but applied to other things. "shrimp emotions" "shrimp sounds" "shrimp morality", as if shrimp are living some kind of transcendent existence that humans can never comprehend

I hope everyone understands, when I say “most endangered habitat on earth”, I mean temperate grasslands.

They’re more endangered than tropical rainforests, coral reefs, the arctic tundra, all of those go-to environments that get more of the spotlight.

Where I live, maybe 25% of the prairie remains in a natural state and that number is dropping. Even these fragments are mostly missing the keystone species that maintain their health, like bison, wolves, and prairie dogs. I know this is the case for other grasslands like the pampas and steppe as well. Vast lands empty of many species that used to call them home.

If you live on temperate grasslands, hold onto them tight, because they’ve been exploited like no other land and most people don’t even know how far the devastation goes.
