( @rewrittenstart ) ‘ now stretch forward without losing your balance - ’ she says , teaching by example in her makeshift THERAPY-YOGA studio that she definitely didn’t threaten some poor wimpy old rich man into giving to her for rehab from the stark tower fall down . ‘ focus on what’s in front of you . ’
It feels silly to be here doing yoga. Miguel doesn’t know why he allowed one of his new coworkers to convince him into coming here but it was less about learning how to balance and more about maybe loosening up. Which is fair. He doesn’t have any problems with doing the poses at least due to his acrobatic fighting style when on patrol. Not the point! His body stretches forward, staring intently in front of him. “And then what?”

𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐊 has been one of jim’s favorite places in the city since his return in the modern age, though slightly out of the way of his usual routes. it’s beautiful and filled to the brim with so many very human things, and it makes him smile slightly. the weather is cold, but the air around him warms as he walks, an almost unconscious thing. he stops by a bench, hands tucked into his pockets as he glances at the other occupant. “ would you mind if i sit ? “
( open for @rewrittenstart. )
Central Park certainly looks different than Miguel remembers it but that could be said for most of the city in 2099. He likes watching the people but at the same time it was too bright out here. His eyes sensitive to it but it feels like these sunglasses weren’t always enough. He can deal with it for now . . . purely to see what society is like in this point in time. He’s sitting on the bench, leaving half of it empty while hands are stuffed into pockets of his jacket. Life seems so simple here and yet it wasn’t at the same time. Someone pulls him out of this thoughts with a question. “You can sit, I don’t mind at all.”

it was sort of odd that he clarified that, because he thought peter was the only spider-man in this time. “fangs? now i’m intrigued,” he admitted. he admired them, quite impressed, really, but tried to maintain polite and not gawk. “is that normal of humans in 2099?” thor asked curiously. he felt a bit of pride wash over him. he was still alive, and more over, he had his own religion. “thorites. how fascinating. how did that happen? oh, really? you must be very important, then,” he settled. at the question, thor frowned and nodded, listening intently. now, if thor thought the fangs were interesting, this was truly fascinating. “you’ve lifted mjolnir?! that’s incredible! it’s enchanted, you know. ‘whosoever holds this hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of thor,’” he recited by memory. “no wonder you are so important. mjolnir is very powerful. it gives you incredible power. power most mortals can’t wield. when did you get the opportunity?” he asked, full of curiosity.
“No, I’m the only one.” Miguel doesn’t know how to explain it . . . never really been in the position where he had to. “I spliced my DNA with an arachnid. This is the result . . . half of me being human and the other half being spider.” Which is the easiest way of explaining it. He never really felt important, not in the way all the Thorites saw him. He eventually came to enjoy having their support. It meant that there was someone on his side.He should have eased more into mentioning Mjolnir. “I was asked me to hold onto it . . . so I did for a while. I never really left it out of my sight and even took it to work.” Which feels ridiculous now that Miguel says it out loud. He smiles though, feeling proud of finding out that he was special. “I spend months trying to figure out what made me worthy, you know? I could never figure it out but it sure made me feel good at the time.”

as he gradually learned about the different spider people in the vast multiverse, it was both confusing, and a comfort. for so long, peter felt like he was so alone. no, he wasn’t the only hero, and he didn’t have to carry the weight of things by himself, but it often felt like it. for ages, no one was doing what he was doing. knowing he wasn’t alone was comforting, even when no one else was around. but here? everyone seemed to be here. it was pretty wild, actually. kind of suspicious, if he thought about it too hard. it was a wonder he ever patrolled without seeing someone around. kind of a relief, too, honestly. not everyone knew his secret, which was how he liked it. as he spotted a friend a few blocks down, he sped up, dropping down next to him. “hey, man. how’s it going, being in the past for so long?” @greatguilt
Miguel had been used to being the only Spider-Man his entire life but for him it was more about picking up a legacy. He came from the year 2099 and Peter was nothing more than a figure in history books. There wasn’t any other hero with these abilities so after the gene-splicing incident . . . it doesn’t surprise him that the citizens of Nueva York decided to start calling him Spider-Man. They didn’t really have as many heroes as this point in time. He found comfort in having other individuals with spider powers to lean on. They were a family in a way and it feels good to have people accept him. Life back home is complicated and this is a happier time in comparison. This isn’t his first time being thrown into the past but it’s his first time without it being on his own terms. Miguel doesn’t know what he’s doing but decided to try figuring out the layout of this place. He shouldn’t be surprised that Peter drops down next to him. He doesn’t flinch, looking over at the other from behind his sunglasses. Miguel does flash a fanged grin his way though, feeling more comfortable in showing them since there was no reason to hide his features from someone that has seen it before. “It’s definitely an adjustment. I managed to get a job at Stark Industries so that has been a good use of my time. Doctor Doom isn’t the president yet so being here isn’t all bad.” He slides his phone into his pocket, giving his friend his full attention. “It’s nice to see you. You want to go on patrol? I don’t have anywhere to be.”

“ i’d have to say it’s the shared experiences that makes it slightly easier for us to trust one another . ” at least it is for jess . she finds a level of comfort to know that there are others like her . and she can’t help but take in the younger generation of spiders . provide some level of guidance no matter how messy her life got . “ no hate to tony , he knows how to throw a good party , ” she chuckles . “ i haven’t actually decided . maybe another bar ? you got any suggestions ? ”
The shared experiences might not always be glamorous ones to have in common with someone else but Miguel is glad to have someone around that seems to understand at least. It make him feel normal even if the reasons are a little messed up. He doesn’t like being alone and fuck it was lonely being the only one in his time period who has powers like himself. Nobody to really support him. He’ll take in Jessica’s guidance always. “It was a good party, I’ll agree with you on that . . . just wasn’t my scene.” The suggestion of going to a bar catches his interest though! “I could go for a drink so going to another bar sounds great but I don’t know of any places yet. One of the disadvantages of being from 2099 I suppose.” He never knows where everything is but Miguel is learning. Each day he’s swinging around this version of New York teaches him something new. The layout surely changed as decades went by.

when scott first got out, he really had no idea what to do or where to go. he managed to get to the avengers, and that was a start, but he was still pretty lost. he hadn’t found cassie and he hadn’t found hope, which also meant he didn’t have a suit. he felt pretty useless, actually. but, he had managed to make a friend, and miguel was nice enough to let him live with him, which was extra great, because the place he found himself was just terrible. “so do you like, eat regular food?” he asked as he stood at the stovetop, pushing around some vegetables in a pan. @greatguilt
The apartment Miguel has gotten for himself is better than staying in a motel room. He did that for a few weeks and decided at a point that he couldn’t handle it any longer. He wanted a place of his own with space that felt more private. He had an extra room so inviting his new friend to live with him was an easy choice to make really. They got along and Miguel even explained his secret. It would only be fair if they’d be sharing a space together. It’s hard to hide his features that were obviously unusual. His fangs and vibrant red eyes were what everyone notices first. He can’t retract the fangs so it’s nice not having to hide them at home. “I do eat normal food. Consider me curious though . . . what did you think I ate instead?” He raises an eyebrow after walking into the kitchen, a little amused actually. “Whatever you’re cooking smells good.”

“this is hell, isn’t it?” she asked, though she was mostly thinking aloud. she didn’t really believe in hell, but if she were to guess, this was it. it was either that, or sophie had actually been brought back to life, and she wasn’t really sure how she felt about either. @rewrittenstart
“I don’t believe in Hell but if this is meant to be it? How disappointing.” Miguel admits, being fairly honest in his statement and shrugging his shoulders slightly. He lived through Doctor Doom being president and just about every other chaotic thing that has spiraled in 2099. What could be worse? “It’s starting to feel like it though.”

thor had to admit he found it odd that in the future, there was another spider-man. he’d met spider-man, and he was very different. and how many people really would turn into a spider-man, anyway? it seemed highly unlikely that such a thing would happen to more than one person. “this must be especially odd for you, then,” he said with a smile. “are you the only spider-man in your time? am i not around much in 2099? i can’t imagine why i wouldn’t be. why yes! i find it fascinating that you somehow ended up here!”
It’s not easy to describe 2099 to someone that has never been there before. Miguel can try since if anyone who deserves to know about what it’s like, that person is Thor. “I’m the only Spider-Man in my time. My genetics are half-spider and half-human due to a gene-splicing incident. I’m a little different than the other one. I have fangs so for starters . . .” He shows them off by opening his mouth a little more. It feels good having someone else that knew. “You still exist. You have your own religion. There’s a giant church in the city with your symbol on the front. Thorites is what your followers call themselves. You’re an important figure to us so . . . yeah you still exist in 2099. Many people even called me the harbinger of Thor.” Miguel does have something to bring up though, something silly, but it has plagued his mind for quite some time. “You want to know something? I’m worthy enough to lift Mjolnir and have done it but I’ve never been able to figure out why.”

“ nah man, you’re completely valid for feeling that way. ” miles says, admittingly feeling the same way. normally he has no problem with large gatherings but of something of this caliber and this fancy, it’s foreign to him. he’s still the kid who grew up in the streets of brooklyn with a single mom and they barely made it by. so, to say he was uncomfortable was an understatement. the mention of the mexican holiday sparks interest in miles, his family celebrating it at home in honor of his father. he’s half puerto rican but he grew up with the holiday, so it brings a comforting smile to his features. “ i’ve never been to the celebrations in mexico but i’ve seen pictures. ” he begins. “ it’s always beautiful, i celebrate it with my momma at home. ”
“I feel like I’d be doing more good stopping some bank robber than mingling around this party.” Miguel sighs softly, knowing that he promised himself to try making new friends. He can’t stick around only the other spiders even if that’s what he really wanted to do. They’re familiar is all. He watches some of the guests move around the room, adjusting his sunglasses that rest over his eyes. “I’m giving everyone a chance at least.” Miguel knows they’re going to need each other for whatever will come. However, getting the chance to talk about Día de Muertos makes him smile. This is something that he’s happy to spend some time talking about. “It’s really beautiful. You should go if the chance ever presents itself. You want to know a secret? My Spider-Man suit was originally a costume I wore to one of the celebrations in Mexico.” It was the only clothing that he owned made of unstable molecules and the design just stuck all these years. “You celebrate it with your mom and that’s the important part. Celebrating it this year will be different. Maybe we can do it together since our families aren’t here?”

❝ you sound like a man who knows what he’s talking about, ❞ he remarks easily, & really, he should be more surprised by the implications of time travel, but he isn’t, not anymore. god, he misses the days when he was. he’d thought that the craziest thing he would face in his life was turning into a giant green rage monster, once. it’s — weird. missing the days when it was just him & hulk is weird. but he can’t even properly long for the life he had before. before he was hunted, before the avengers, before he caused so much harm. it seems so far away. like it happened to a completely different person, & maybe it did. maybe he’s changed, & maybe not for the better. ❝ i suppose i’m just slightly cynical, after everything. ❞ understatement of the century.
It feels strange living in the past and constantly be surrounded by people who had no idea of what awaits for them in the years to come. Miguel paid attention to some of the history books. “My names Miguel O’Hara. I’m originally from the year 2099 before we all started getting brought here.” He doesn’t mention being Spider-Man yet but can give some other fun information. “We have flying cars and Thor has his own church in the city. It’s very different from all of this.” His fingers push through the brunette stands of hair while coming to the realization that they’ve all lost something by being displaced from their own sections of the timeline. “You aren’t the only one. People like us living through so many traumatic experiences will have an impact. I don’t remember what it’s like to be someone without powers anymore.”

at this point in time , jess is sure that her past self is doing business in london . but it’s nice that she at least still has her apartment here . “ it’s instinct at this point , y’know ? ” and acute paranoia but let’s not focus on that . she chuckles , returning the smile to miguel . “ i think i’m gonna call it a win because i haven’t thrown a single punch tonight . though i’ve come close , ” she lets out a light laugh . “ no hate to tony , pepper and diana , ” finally reaches up to untie that blasted bowtie . “ but this gala just feels like a little too much given the predicament we’re in . ”
It’ll be interesting to see what everyone messing around with the timeline will do it later. How many changes will there be? Maybe Miguel will get lucky and Doom won’t become president this time. He could only hope but he wasn’t really that lucky. “I get it. Sometimes it feels like all we can trust is each other and the other spiders.” He’s always hesitant with people’s intentions but it’s easy to let down those walls around Jessica. “They put together a great party but it’s not my scene. I’m sure we can find something more worthwhile to do with our time.” He says this playfully actually, a lighter tone than one might have expected. “Where are you headed once we leave?”

admittedly, there are a lot of people in this timeline that he is not familiar with. he isn’t really sure what happened. but when he heard that one of the people in this timeline was from a further future than the one he knew, he had to meet him. “you are from the year 2099, correct?” @greatguilt
This is one of the first experiences where someone approached Miguel with curiosities about the year he came from. Although what he doesn’t expect is to see Thor be the one to walk up to him. This is the God everyone worships in his version of Nueva York. He even has his very own church! His followers are always preaching somewhere in the city. “You’re correct, I’m from 2099. My name is Miguel O’Hara . . . also call myself Spider-Man. It’s an honor to meet you. You really came looking for me?”

‘ only if your date isn’t getting drunk without you . ’ her date is … around here . somewhere . probably getting drunk without her , which is so unfortunate really . but it’s okay , lorna’s used to being alone . ‘ or if your date is getting drunk with you . did you come with anyone ? ’ she asks with a raise of her brow , interest peaking when he mentions 2099 . ‘ which xmen ? oh - everything they do is for humans , they don’t even help their own species . ’
“Why are you still talking to me?” This is said playfully, words paired with light laughter before continuing. “You should go join your date! Since we’re here though . . . I’m Miguel O’Hara.” The spider can imagine that getting drunk alone isn’t fun at any party but hasn’t been to enough of them to know all the ettiequte. “I came alone. There are plenty of familiar faces around to keep me company so I’m not really bothered by not having a date.” It’s also easier to mingle without one. Miguel has only ever had two relationships but the longest of them ended in tragedy. He doesn’t like thinking about that day. Miguel smiles when it seems like his fact about 2099 seems to peak her interest and pushes all other thoughts out of his mind. “I’m sure none of them were born yet in this era but their leader calls himself Desert Ghost. I’ve heard that one of his abilities is matter disintegration which is really cool.” He tilts his head. “Well that’s shocked up. Doesn’t being a hero mean you help everyone?”

anya winks at the other’s response with a chuckle and a click of her tongue “thanks, well you see sometimes you just have to get shitfaced to enjoy yourself.” she says with a shrug and a grin. truthfully anya wasn’t the type of person to be in these types of places but she went for the sake of mingling with others and a lot of alcohol would have to be involved. her eyes follow his hand as he shows her the suit and she chuckles to herself and raises her glass “bottoms up, my friend, first of many.” she replies as her gaze runs over the many bright suits in display “let’s see who will end up carrying who home.”
//
How shit-faced could any of them really get? Miguel is curious just how many of the superpowers individuals were immune to the effects of alcohol? He might sober up quicker due to his regeneration factor but at least he’s able to feel it for a little while. He wouldn’t view this as a waste of time anyway since it’s a bonding activity with Anya. “Especially when it comes to attending events like this.” He still thinks that there are better ways to learn about your allies. You won’t know how well you’d fight alongside someone by mingling in dress shoes and drinking alcoholic beverages. Miguel is trying to enjoy himself and in this moment? He absolutely is. “Just no swinging while intoxicated. I’ve never done it but I’m sure that’s very messy.” The spider nudges the other gently with his elbow before downing his first shot. Maybe they should order a few rounds of shots to have them ready with the rate this is going to go. This is a nice way to let loose too that’s for sure. “Now lets see what else we can find . . . “

“They always give small portions at these things which I’ve always thought to be unfortunate. I’ll never understand fancy dining.” Miguel isn’t that kind of person and would rather have something greasy. “You like spicy food? There’s a decent Mexican place nearby that’s open late.” If his memory recalls correctly, they should have menu items that doesn’t have a kick to it too.

tony was sure that the explanation felt like it was needed, but surely in the time this guy was from, he had heard of tony stark, right? he maybe didn’t have quite this level of tech available, but he understood it. “yeah, no, i get that. i have one, too. he doesn’t have a visualization, though. can’t do like physical things, like bring me a cup of coffee or something. but he’s laced through this place. runs the place, really. i used to see him as middle aged man, but now i just see vision when he speaks,” he explained. “though the vision and i share a voice, i am not him, nor he i, sir,” jarvis added. “yeah, yeah, i know. i was there, remember?” tony offered a grin to the hologram, though he felt it was unnecessary even as he did. “nice to meet you, lyla. how did she manage to come with you on your long trek through the ages?”
It feels good talking with someone that doesn’t need this kind of technology explained to them. He knows all about Tony Stark or at least what was taught to him over the years. This isn’t about a history lesson though and this is a first impression situation. Miguel doesn’t want to ruin it but it’s going well so far. “You do? Well now you’ve become my new favorite person because you’re the first person who does get it.” His red eyes watch as Lyla moves around the room, looking at the different decorations displayed around the shelves. This lasts for a moment until she makes her way back over to sit down on a chair. “You’ll have to tell me more about this Vision sometime. It’s nice to meet you as well . . . what did you name yours?” The spider asks when his focus turned back to Tony. He wonders what would happen if they left Lyla and Jarvis alone to talk for a few hours but decides to keep that curiosity to himself. Instead he pulls his jacket sleeve down to reveal a communication device. “Her program is all in this.” It’s wrapped around his wrist at the moment. “I was wearing it when I got thrown into the past. Which is a relief since I would be lost without her, really.”

❝ you have to wonder, once in awhile … how many more times this city can get back up. ❞ he’s seen new york in ruins too often. hell, the hulk tore through harlem. & it’s still here, rebuilding, over & over again. he’s not sure if it’s strength or the definition of insanity. bruce doesn’t like cities, generally, has plenty of reasons to hate new york, but he can’t, not really. it’s not home, but it’s something. he pushes his glasses up, eyes back to their normal brown, no longer flashing dangerous greens as they were earlier. it’s been a long day, trying to help everyone that he can in the emergency field hospitals. he actually misses his room in stark tower. he never thought he would.
This is one of the rare moment when Miguel didn’t have his sunglasses on, vibrant red eyes looking over at the older man standing near him. “Nueva York isn’t going anywhere, trust me.” Miguel is proof enough of that fact. He has never lived anywhere outside of the city but there was never any reason to leave. His job kept him there but now his excuse is different. He stays since it’s vaguely familiar. Although, most of the buildings don’t appear the same but that was expected with how many decades separate his era from this one. “People always find something to believe in that helps them get back onto their feet. It’s different for everyone but can act as motivation.” He sighs for a moment, thinking about all the people who spend their time worshipping Thor as an example.
