Zero responded with a regal nod of the head.

“Demon King Zero. Sovereign of the Demon World, kind of a parallel version of this world. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. I presume judging by Kura’s address; that you are named Enzo, correct?’

The Demon King seemed rather amused by the way in which Enzo had made his appearance.

"Oh! Zero! Welcome back! Where have you been? I could not access the Dark World for a while..." Zero would recognize the mole speaking as Kura, who seemed both happy and concerned about the ice demon.

He seemed to perk up at the sound of Kura’s voice.“Oh! I was going to contact you after I got some other loose ends tied up. There was an… incident. It was unsafe to have our worlds connected until that was dealt with. I am actually surprised Momo did not contact you, as I did not have time to give her any details before I was forced to seal the Demon World.”

Zero smiled and actually managed a small laugh. “It’s weird to see you this positive... but at the same time, it’s refreshing... “

He found his mind wandering back to several past hardships Kura had been through. If he were honest with himself, Zero couldn’t be sure that, if in Kura’s position, he would have been able to keep on the path of redemption.”

By now, the familiar had calmed down, so he lowered his hand.

“So... what have I missed? I know things are usually far from dull in the World of Mortals.”

"Oh! Zero! Welcome back! Where have you been? I could not access the Dark World for a while..." Zero would recognize the mole speaking as Kura, who seemed both happy and concerned about the ice demon.

He seemed to perk up at the sound of Kura’s voice.“Oh! I was going to contact you after I got some other loose ends tied up. There was an… incident. It was unsafe to have our worlds connected until that was dealt with. I am actually surprised Momo did not contact you, as I did not have time to give her any details before I was forced to seal the Demon World.”

Zero sighed.

“Yes, I can thankfully say the brothers made it out alive, although we had a few close calls. All three of us. We are busy rebuilding, and we are going to make arrangements with Princess Momo to give a debriefing about exactly what happened. I only had time to tell her we had to quarantine the Demon World and to NOT try to re-establish contact unless we did so first. We could not risk that... thing... learning about other worlds. We had no way of knowing if it could jump to other worlds.”

Zero reached up to pet the familiar around his neck, who had started to run in her sleep in a rather adorable way.

“We have not been able to determine the origin of the artifact it came from. Especially since the artifact was destroyed during the termination of the entity. If it DID come from our world, that would mean it was unfathomably old. Possibly the oldest artifact in the Demon World before its destruction.”

“... If you can, I might need to ask her about the void beasts. I have absolutely no proof that’s what that thing was, but right now it’s the only thing that even FAINTLY resembles a lead on what that thing was that almost killed us all.”

Now that it was all over, Zero was kind of in that weird phase where he was overfocused on everything that could have gone wrong but didn’t.

“Frankly we were lucky we only got away with THAT many casualties. Our initial assessment of the threat set the death toll to 10 percent of the population... “

Zero raised an eyebrow.

“So, a partial lockdown? “ Internally, Zero wondered if there wasn’t somehow another one of that artifact in Lorelei’s world... The Demon King silently prayed he was wrong. “Has Lorelei said anything about an artifact of some kind?”

“Positive. We took utmost care in making sure the Demon World, and only the Demon World, was completely cut off from every other world as soon as we decided lockdown was the only way to prevent other worlds from being affected.” He sighed. “Which actually caused a second problem. A mortal became trapped in the Demon World sometime just prior to the incident. She had crossed into our world by accident, and no one knew the child was there until after it was too late to safely get her back.”
