Hey, do y’all remember how Tencent said they were developing faceID AI to identify people in riots, and then they suddenly created an AI art generator to turn your selfies into anime?
Do y’all remember that time that someone discovered facial recognition cameras couldn't see through Juggalo makeup, then Facebook had a fun “see what you'd look like with Juggalo makeup” thing, and then facial recognition cameras could suddenly see through Juggalo makeup?
Do y’all remember how, on Twitter, Elon started a tirade against artists who ask for credit when their art is reposted, and he suddenly he created one of the first big art AI programs?
Do y’all remember how AI destroyed the field of freelance translation, despite the inferiority of the machine translations, because companies didn’t care about the quality of the translations? They just wanted it done for free?
Do y’all know how companies will see a lot of money going into a New Tech Thing (like, say, AI art apps) and will jump to try and implement that New Tech Thing into their tech? For example, how it felt like every big company and celebrity had an NFT to sell?
Just wondering.

It’s actually disgusting me that people are choosing to forget about Palestine not even a full year into this ongoing genocide. Nothing is better. Nothing has slowed down. It’s just underreported. It’s just that western media outlets aren’t pretending to care. The iof is still targeting aid distribution centers, it’s still killing hundreds of Palestinians a day, it’s still preventing medical aid from entering North Gaza. So many diseases are robbing families of their loved ones. It is worse than it has ever been. Less people are talking about it now because they no longer want to be bothered to care

The International Court of Justice in January found that Israel is plausibly committing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza. More recently, the ICJ found Israel guilty of apartheid and its military occupation and annexation of Palestinian territory to be illegal.
This means that all states, local governments, corporations and institutions must immediately end all forms of complicity in Israeli crimes and violations of international law, and the root cause of all this: Israel's 76-year-old regime of settler-colonialism.

ok realizing this needs to be said because not everyone knows:
building affordable housing is a red herring. a scam. a multilevel marketing scheme.
there is far more housing than there are people. you would think housing is expensive because the supply is too low and the demand too high. we’re taught to believe in the ‘law of supply and demand’ but that’s invariably a gross simplification.
real estate is always a great investment because land is a fundamentally finite resource, and fundamentally necessary for life. most investments tend to fluctuate, to increase and decline in value, but real estate almost always increases, and often at far higher rates than ‘the market’ at large offers.
so what does this mean? it means that there are many times more vacant homes than there are homeless people. it means buying a home and renting it for more than the mortgage while the equity only grows is an incredible investment. heck buying a home and not renting it is still a great investment. SO no matter how many homes you build, ‘affordable’ or not, they will be bought up and hoarded by the rich and housing will remain unaffordable for everyone else.

I don't know how many of my followers are furries but we just lost one of ours.
He died because the medical industry in the US refused to help. He was murdered in a million little ways, with a million automated systems.
He was on bluesky no more than five hours ago, now he's gone.
Dragoneer ran FurAffinity, which is more or less the furry art site. It looks like its' from the early aughts, has no native pdf support, and has zero discoverability or algorithmic function. It's home to me, it's always been home.
No matter how often I moved or how often my life radically changed, there was FA. I met my husband on the forums. Through the majority of its' life, Dragoneer kept it running. He never sold us out, never tried to keep up with trends. It's a community.
And there is something bitter about losing someone who was key to keeping one of the relics of the internet before corporations took over.
We have our home, but it's lost its' keeper.
Good night, Neer. You kept the lights on.

Can't express how stress free being open minded is.
Some lesbians use he/him? Oh cool.
Some people have people inside their head and sometimes it's fictional chars? Sick your brains like a pirate ship they're all working to run.
Some people like being treated like a pet dog? Bark bark bro.
Being fat isn't unhealthy but a perfectly normal type of body to have? Kinda beautiful how different we can all be.
Something doesn't make any fucking sense? Cool an opportunity to learn. And even if I can't figure it out it's cool we still have mysteries today.

You own the home you live in. The last owners painted the walls of your bedroom a horrible off white.
You fucking hate it. Every day you wake up to off-white walls and off-white ceilings and pass through your off-white door to get to the rest of the house. You feel like you've been locked up in a padded room. It makes you want to die.
So what is there to do? Well, you own the home. Go out and get some paint, a roller or two, and a drop cloth. If the color makes you want to kill yourself, you should obviously change it.
But what if you didn't hate it. What if it just mildly perturbed you? Or maybe what if you didn't, like, reeeeeally mind it all that much, but you knew that another color would make you a lot happier? Does the decision that you come to change?
Sure, it's work moving the furniture out, setting up, painting, making sure you get the edges, cleaning up, letting it all dry, etc, but isn't adding joy to your life worth the effort? Don't you owe it to yourself to subtract mediocrity and add happiness? Do you need to be miserable to envision a better life?

I suspect somewhere along the line we collectively decided internet safety meant only avoiding sexual predators & that's one of the reasons cults and hate groups can thrive online
A holistic internet safety curriculum would be maybe 10% avoiding and dealing with sexually predatory behaviors, 40% mental health skill teaching focused on self-regulation and self-esteem, and 50% How To Spot And Avoid Manipulation (anti-scam, anti-cult, anti-misinfo, anti-advertising, etc). Hell, most of the skills you use to steer clear of harmful groups also help protect against sexual predators online!

The idea that sex traffickers are kidnapping random children off the streets and brainwashing them is pure conspiracy with one foot in antisemitism.
