i know everyone wants the legendary stalker to be cool but i'm obsessed with the fact that besides being like, badass or whatever, the only things we know about her is that she a) liked fancy wine, and b) was rude to a kid. PLEASE if we ever see her let her be the most competent stalker of all time AND a disaster as a person. just unpleasant vibes all around.

since as per the survivor's mask description, rookie stalkers are made to wear "embarrassing" animal masks by their seniors, i know in my heart that both carlo and romeo would've started out as stalkers with donkey masks....

one of geppetto's worst crimes (definitely in the top 5) was giving romeo's puppet body human feet. he should've had claws. or hooves.

it's such a shame that sophia as a character is so reliant on keeping everything about her a mystery until.... literally the last chapter, because it makes her a lot weaker as.... one of the main characters. she's intended to have the same level of importance as geppetto in the narrative, however, in execution..... you can't really get invested in her because she doesn't really offer anything meaningful to you until the very end, and by then it feels a little too little too late. (and so much of it is wrapped around simon's plotline, which i have already expressed i don't really care for.)
i think it's why i try to make a bigger deal of things like the hermit's cave, or the thing about being a listener being "the devil's power", according to sophia's mother. these bits show her as an existing part of the setting she's in, and not as the walking Big Reveal set-up she... kind of is, honestly.
sophia is meant to be p's guide through his growing humanity, a counterpoint to geppetto, and i wish more was done with it!!!

<- guy who accidentally proved arlecchino right on his "murder is what makes us human" or something nonsense by getting the max humanity <your heart is beating...> message for the first time right as i killed him

everyone has their own niche media to unnecessarily bring up when thinking about the other thing they enjoy. and unfortunately mine is like, a brazilian miniseries from 2008 adapting a classic.

reading about the history of computer science is very fun for having thoughts about the technology of the game's setting (which i assume must exist in the same level to one extent or another outside of krat, even if puppets are a monopoly of krat's. i mean, geppetto is not even from krat and he's been established to be a genius inventor even before he came there and invented puppets)
do you think puppets are programmed through some form of punched card on a real version of the analytical engine. do you think ada lovelace existed in this world or that she at least had an equivalent.

considering venigni is ~the prince of high society~, and puppet ripper is strongly suggested to have been arlecchino's weapon... it really is a weapon befitting of a kingslayer, huh

carlo's inherent tragedy as a character means that if he hadn't died young he would've gone through something worse. the horrifying realization that he inherited his father's personality <3

the thing about romeo is that he's the equivalent of those cars that have all their parts stripped bare and replaced in order to maximize their speed. absolutely no safety measures to prevent him from exploding or collapsing in on himself but he can do 0-100 kph in 2.2 seconds so hey

these are sooo interesting to me.... i'm not sure if i'm misremembering if she actually says it later or if it's just implied that sophia tried to reach out to other people before, but due to the nature of the petrification disease no one before p could really help her. also, considering this:
Tumblr media
is the idea here that she tried to reach out to her friends first...?

part two of that post about geppetto talking about p not inheriting carlo's memories but his personality instead: i think it's very easy to make a case on him being wrong on the personality front as well and present p and carlo as fairly different people even without the circumstances that shaped them? in fact, i feel like most people do (me included!) to one extent or another.
and honestly? it works very well for his character. geppetto is presented with his son disobeying him, and immediately goes "oh you're just like my other son who also disobeyed me", like the extent of both of their personalities is how compliant they are to him. that's consistent character writing, baby!
