i am leaning towards i think i had a more visceral reaction to kyoka and the erza torture scenes when i was younger because i was around 14-15 when it was airing. it for sure did something to my brain chemistry in a gay way but i also remember it being much more upsetting than it was rewatching as an adult.
still don't like it though and still don't particularly like kyoka and i'm pretty sure its 50% bad writing and 50% she's written very easily to be disgusted by.

#this this this this this#i lean towards Bad Writing but man i also think the point is that she is supposed to be disturbing#there's a running theme in FT with the humiliation of strong female charactersTM (usually erza sometimes lucy) at the hands of other women#antagonists like minerva and kyoka that is just. fascinating thematically to me.#but i know its a fucking fetish thing.#thematically the way you could disect the themes is fascinating. unfortunately it is fairy tail it is a fetish thing.

not to sound like a hater of all time but i really wish that lucy's magic and the designs of the celestial spirits felt less gimmicky. i love lucy as a female protagonist for a lot of reasons and now that i'm rewatching again i think one of the only reasons she doesn't fully click with me is simply bc i find the way celestial spirit magic to be portrayed to be pretty gimmicky.
i wish star dress had become a thing way sooner but i also feel like star dress is sometimes just an excuse to play dolly with lucy (which is fine it just also can lead to the same sexualization problem as erza's requips). i don't necessarily know how i would fix it but i really wish the spirits felt more like loke did during his little backstory arc.
