Hi everyone! This is an illustrated guide I made as part of my co-admining work at The Middle Eastern Feminist on Facebook! It will be published there shortly. The technique that is displayed here is a genuine one used in psychology - I forgot the name and couldn’t find it again so if you know about it, feel free to tell me! Some could say: “Yes but you can use that technique for instances of harassment other than Islamophobic attacks!”, and my reply is: Sure! Please do so, it also works for other “types” of harassment of a lone person in a public space!! However I’m focusing on protecting Muslims here, as they have been very specific targets lately, and as a French Middle Eastern woman, I wanted to try and do something to raise awareness on how to help when such things happen before our eyes - that way one cannot say they “didn’t know what to do”! I’d like to insist on two things: 1) Do not, in any way, interact with the attacker. You must absolutely ignore them and focus entirely on the person being attacked! 2) Please make sure to always respect the wishes of the person you’re helping: whether they want you to leave quickly afterwards, or not! If you’re in a hurry escort them to a place where someone else can take over - call one of their friends, or one of yours, of if they want to, the police. It all depends on how they feel! For my fellow French-speakers: I will translate it in French and post it on my page as soon as I can :) Please don’t hesitate to share this guide as it could push a lot of people to overcome bystander syndrome!! Lots of love and stay safe!

Jewish Voice for Peace supports human rights and dignity for all in Israel/Palestine and supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) non-violent international movement so that Israel:
Ends its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands occupied in June 1967 and dismantles the Wall; recognizes the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and respects, protects and promotes the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN Resolution 194.
I get the opportunity to work with JVP every-so-often and here are some shares.Â

“The legitimacy (not privilege) that you get from looking obviously one race is something I don’t have. But it’s okay. It’s not always okay with others — and therein lies the rub.
Here are seven things...”

Viral video we put out of Sacramento campaigners shared by 18 Million Rising.
Fast food workers struggling for a wage of $15 an hour and the right to unionize participated in a nonviolent civil disobedience action last week.Â
This is Emily Nguyen (ponytail) and Kalia Vang (visor). Emily is 20 years-old and a sophomore at Sacramento City College. She’s worked in fast food for a year and a half and makes California minimum wage ($9 an hour). She says, “I’m just working to breathe, to stay alive. I’m not really living life. We won’t stop till we meet our destination, till our wages go up.“
Watch the emotional video of their arrest here, and be sure to support them on Facebook here!

The power of the rainbow is in full glow this summer. The significance of the June 26 Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality is concretely meaningful for so many, and symbolically meaningful to everyone.
#LoveWins this summer, but not for everyone and not if you plan to get married in a Black church. Because it is a summer of hate this year as well.
Parallel to the civil rights victory of same-sex marriage is a growing state of emergency of violence against Black people in the U.S. Late this June, eight African-American churches were set on fire in a period of ten days in the South. It is a time of terror.

Two Mile Wines Launches Oakland Spirits DistilleryÂ
New article!
Most of us will want or need a drink on the way to the revolution. A favorite urban winery in Oakland has new releases, and is launching Oakland Spirits. They'll be distilling gin and later vodka, bourbon and other infused liquor. They're also starting an incubator for small distillers, and working with funders to help job growth in non-tech in Oakland. Both the wine and people here are on to something. (Wine excellent too).

"…with a string of wage-hike victories in the past year, low-paid burger flippers and french fry servers are becoming a political force."
HUGE thank you to reporter Kevin Fagan for this incredible article.
