Finishing my essay.
This week was all about completing my essay. Ive added a picture of all my references as well as the books and image reference. This week i found many other interesting texts. Some about the importance of taonga. This was in relation to me talking on the payment methods for tamoko in earlier days. Some about hourly rates, yet again about payment methods for tamoko however now in present day. And so much more
My process for writing is good. I write for about an hour and a bit, have a little recharge break. Then back at it again. I normally do this after the gym so my mind is fully awake.

This is the one and only image i will be using in my paper. the origins and name is in the image. It shows the equipment used for tamoko. The first ones known in fact. These are called uhi and were used to carve the ink and pattern into the skin.

WK 11
week 11 is when i found those books. It also when i actually began to write my essay. Having Higgins article and the texts i collected was definitely a huge help. I wrote my introduction and my first parargrapgh in this week.
For my intro i wanted to include the origins of ta moko. In Higgins text theres a section that talks of the origins in a maori perspective. This was with. the story of Mataaora and Niwareka. Because of my love for all things Maori, this new knowledge of their mythical story gave me fire to complete the rest of the essay. I am now excited to kept writing which is great

FIRST TIME GOING INTO THE LIBARY!!!
i absolutely loved it in there.
Originally i went in to get a text that i saw online on the AUT library website which was Tamoko:the art of maori tattoo by D R. Simmons. However when i went in i found many other texts that talked on ta moko and customs. they were Moko: Maori tattooing in the 20th century by Michael King. and also Maori: life and customs by W.J Phillipps and John Huria.
I didn't use Maori: life and customs, however the other two text gave me plenty of things that i can use in my essay. Things like in the Moko: Maori tattooing in the 20th century i found plenty of text about maori using chisels then needles for equipment. and in Tamoko:the art of maori tattoo i found heaps of things about the tikanga behind doing olden ta moko as well as the instruments used to preform it.

This week (WK 10) i’ve found the best article/online study for my paper. It holds infomation for everything and anything about ta moko. Which is perfect for my paper.
From this article ive found and know the idea i want to continue to research for my paragraphs. I will be studying the changes in tikanga, uhi or equipment. and lasting talking on why these changes have helped us and disadvantaged us

WK 8
Here we were introduced to your submission details. And this time i know that i would need to this time focus on my strengths. My strengths have to majorly with te ao maori. And for the concepts of design in that, my whole life ive been fascinated in tamoko. So, i thought i would do it on tamoko.
I didn't do much this week other than decided this
WK 9
This week i finalised my essay topic. I have chosen to do ‘How colonisation affected the art, practice, Tikanga and customs of Māori Tāmoko’
It an easy topic for me. And because im passionate about, everything should run smooth.

While doing my Art & design mood-boards i found a huge interest in 1980 Arcade game designs and movie posters. The illustrations, logos, branding and more. I will be continuing my research with these.

The art and design in the years of 1978 - 1980 was bold and/or very honest. This boldness is clearly represented in the fonts used on the poster/arcade games and the protest signs I've added into my mood-board. They used bold modern sans-serif fonts paired with strong eye catching colours. Sometimes, like seen in the arcade games I've added, we see that these bold font were also paired with illustrations. These illustrations were mostly hand drawn my artist then printed on each game. Theres a trend of colour blocking and yet again bright colours in these illustrations, clearly used to draw in the eye. Now when it comes to photography I've dedicated a whole mood-board to this. Because of the whole justice movement of its time as well as many other factors like poverty; people were the main interest of photographers of this time. Loud movements like punk, civil rights, disco and more were topics of these photos.

In 1980 people and culture were loud, bright and colourful. Known for things like Jazzercise with Jane Fonder being a prominent figure. Neon colours. Popular songs such as “Call me” by Blondie, “Rock with you” and “She’s out of my Life” by Micheal Jackson, also and endless list of music by QUEEN. When it comes to movies there were hits such as “The empire strikes back” and “9 to 5″. There was a strong protest/justice movement in 1980 with the Miami Riots being one of the man ones.
All round, In 1980. Thing were colourful and no one was scared to be loud and proud.
