jerome will always be the first, he will always be the original valeska. jeremiah despises this, and therefore devoted everything - his plans, his goals - to being his opposite in a futile attempt to erase his impact. he knows he can't replace jerome in bruce's life, so instead he targeted the one event even more significant to bruce, his parents' deaths. however, in doing so, he has done a complete 360, driven himself mad, and became jerome regardless.

even though jeremiah made jerome, bruce will always find jerome to be more impactful to him (this is because of how young he was when he got caught up in his plans---he doesn't meet miah till he's 18). jeremiah finds this endlessly infuriating and thus he spends his entire life trying to outdo the memory of his dead brother
