An evening recounted

Crows caw in the tree tops.

A blue-gray tarp obscures my view.

I rustle and roll,

Uncomfortable,

Pinched between a concrete slab

And a rock at my hip, a log

To halt my morning stretch.

Up! At em!

Where am I? How did I end up

As a log among logs in the woods?

Am I dead? Not quite,

But over the levee

Are bodies, plenty.

I must be living,

Ah, yes! Living and loving!

Striving to do anything,

Everything! For no reason

Other than,

"I think I can,

Let's make a memory."

Oh yes, my memory!

He comes back to me,

Like a fog lifting,

And with it, I'm carried

Through the midnight streets

Under incandescent bulbs,

Pack slung over shoulder,

Blue-gray tarp in hand.

Digging into the land,

Willfully homeless for the evening.

Sleep is second when blessed

With crisp, cool, creek air

And shrubbery coddling you.

What more is there to need

When the oak reaches down,

A spiritual extension,

To brush her finger along your cheek.

frankly? ban all plastics. require all public buildings to be solar powered. public community gardens in every neighborhood. ban all pesticides. ban fossil fuels. put wind turbines on every sky scraper. gardens on every rooftop. tax cars and fund public transportation. build bike lanes across every city. train/railroad infrastructure across the country (tear down highways). every state mandated to have a certain percentage of land be a wildlife preserve. local/organic farms get huge tax breaks. raise the minimum wage. aquaponics farms in every city. every family has chickens in their backyard. community composting. jeff bezos’s body for fertilizer. i have a clear idea of what i want the world to look like and i want it now. hire me
