This AU is still going, I just haven’t really had much motivation to do art for it recently. More will come eventually.

Introducing Gorillaz: the self-titled album. Released in 1967, this has a huge psychedelic sound, inspired by The Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, and early Pink Floyd.

I know this is called the 1970s AU, but that title isn’t exactly accurate. As you’ll see soon, it also includes the late 1960s and early 1980s.

Some info on the members!
Russel Hobbs: Russ is a driving force in this band, striving for social change and empowerment. Rather than being killed in a drive-by, Russel and his friends were drafted in Vietnam a few years earlier, fighting the war that none of them wanted. After his friends had their lives taken, his possession issues got him forced back home, where he escaped to England. He helped shape this version of Demon Days into a protest album.
Stuart Pot: This version of Stu had some very difficult drug problems in the mid-1960s and left him with severe anxiety. He still has occasional problems with pills. Often erratic, he has difficulty performing at times, but is kind-hearted and caring.
Murdoc Niccals: Murdoc is still the stereotypical “rock star” of the early ‘70s and has an unfortunate drinking habit. All those playground rumours of musicians doing weird shit? Those all happened to Murdoc for real. Careless and reckless, he’s very similar in many ways.
Noodle: Noodle is much the same here, although she’s a little older at college age: like Russel, she’s outspoken in her activism, especially for feminism. She isn’t quite a hippie, but in this AU she ran away from home at a young age and left her old life behind, since her parents were strict, abusive and unforgiving, like many people born during or just after World War II.

Here’s who the appearances of the band members are based (mostly) on:
Murdoc: Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath vocalist
Stuart: Syd Barrett, former Pink Floyd frontman and solo artist
Russel: Billy Preston, world’s greatest keyboardist
Noodle isn’t based on a person in particular, but rather a fashion style of the time.

Introducing my new Gorillaz AU, Gori71az! Set in 1971, this version of the band swaps the hip-hop and dub influences for funk, soul and reggae, along with some more psychedelic and progressive rock stylings.
