ind. canon divergent & multiverse rachel berry of glee sideblog to @strongfcclings my heart jumps around when i'm alluded to, this will not do... i was raised up, to be admired to be noticed. but when you're withdrawn, it's the closest thing to assault when all eyes are on you, this will not do... i'm faking glory, lick my lips toss my hair and turn the smile on, and the story's brand new. but i can take it from here. i'll find my own bravado

hi so... run joey run... never happened. okay? okay. cool.
she wants to be the best, and okay yes maybe that means diversifying her lineup of performances, but she’s also borderline obsessive in her love for people she cares about. at this moment in time, jesse’s made her feel like she finally has an equal who values her (which hasn’t happened before) and she values him right back??? so she’s never going to try to like... recruit her exes to do some song with her.
not to mention rachel doesn’t care about being seen as promiscuous. as amusing as “rachel berry’s about to become musically promiscuous” is, it’s just out of character for my portrayal and uhhh yeah. she does not do that thing. it’s not a part of my canon, never has been and never will be. she’s freaking loyal as hell and that’s just facts...
and beyond that she doesn’t want to be objectified more than she’s already been in this school. she mentions inappropriate sketches in the bathrooms, not to mention the way jacob talks to her, it doesn’t seem like he’s the only one. she doesn’t want to be seen that way. it’s incredibly uncomfortable for her.

Glee: Rachel Berry [ESFJ]
Extroverted Feeling (Fe): Rachel is very free and open with her feelings. She is easily hurt by others, but also feels comfortable standing up for herself when upset. Other people’s opinions matter to her very much, so she will accommodate them and their needs before herself when necessary, even though she tends to be a diva. Rachel is good at encouraging others, and making them feel good about themselves. She yearns for the approval of others, particularly those who are successful in music.
Introverted Sensing (Si): She has an extensive hair and skin care “routine” that she does every night, without fail. Rachel isn’t always comfortable with new experiences, or with moving past things that have hurt her in the past; even in New York, she finds it hard to move on from her old life and leave her former friends (and relationships) in the past. She gets energy from the Glee Club, and in sharing experiences with others, lending her a sense of “closeness” to them while anchoring her to things she feels are eternally important (music, love, and expressionism). She trains hard and idolizes those who have gone before her in music, often learning from their mistakes and adopting their methods in the hope of success.
Extroverted Intuition (Ne): Her creativity allows her to come up with new spins on her favorite routines and songs, while also entertaining big dreams for the future. Rachel is willing to alter those dreams and change them, as she has new experiences, and becomes more open to trying out new things. But all her dreams ultimately tie back to her desire to pursue a musical career, and she reverts back to her routines and delights in the familiar as much as she entertains new possibilities.
Introverted Thinking (Ti): Being cut off from someone emotionally devastates Rachel, who tends to act primarily on her emotions and ambitions; but her intense desire for success causes her to analyze the careers of others to see what they did right (and wrong), so that she can not only avoid their mistakes but understand the emotions behind them.

ARC 06
living in west ham all her life really wasn’t rachel berry’s destiny. she was better than this place and she was ready to get out. graduating from high school this year and going to new york, to nyada, and soon enough performing on broadway, that was everything she’d been looking forward to since she was a little girl. she really didn’t want to go on this stupid trip, everyone in that stupid school hated her anyway, so what was the point? gosh even most of the theatre kids were popular, they didn’t treat her too well though so she stuck to choir and dance mostly as far as the work she did in school. outside theatre was more her scene anyway, better for her resume.
she drives a pretty nice car thanks to her dads (a gift for her eighteenth birthday), so you’d think someone, anyone might want her on their side for fugitive, but no one really bothers to invite the girl to anything. after all when she posts her covers on her instagram and youtube channels, they’re too busy posting rude (and inappropriate) comments on her feed to bother to acknowledge her as a person with feelings who they might consider including.
honestly the one and only person from this town she sees herself having anything in common with is elle tomkins. the girl is a dancer, like rachel is, and she’s from new york to boot. while rachel’s plan was broadway where elle’s was to be a ballerina for her career, they do have a good bit of an interest collision regardless. they’ve danced together for years now and so they’ve gotten to know each other decently well. the social outcasts with the extensive collection of pointe shoes have to stick together.
her dads make her go on the trip, it’s a time for her to enjoy herself, bond with her classmates one last time. and her sister would be there they argued. but ally wouldn’t be with her, she was two grades below her after all, so realistically they may not truly see each other much. they definitely weren’t allowed to ride on the same bus. rachel was planning on sitting next to elle to at least be around someone who doesn’t hate her guts for the several hour long bus ride (whether this happens or campbell gets the seat is open for plotting but... it could be an interesting au wink wink).
when they have to turn the busses around she’s honestly kind of grateful to be going home. but... then they get home and no one’s there. that’s more than a little bit frustrating for the girl who’s been used to having a good deal of attention from her dads, especially when things become uncertain like this. she only tries contacting them for the first few days however, she tries not to freak out too much because she has her sister ally who she doesn’t want to cause stress for.
rachel does go to the party, but she’s not exactly friends with anyone so she’s mostly on her own. i’d love to see her hanging out with elle at the party, or maybe even pulling elle away from campbell? idk. i just want to give elle friendship because she deserves to be unisolated and imo rachel would be someone who tbh might be a good candidate. if elle hangs out with rachel at the party, she could even go home with rachel and ally instead of campbell... idk idk just ideas.
but anyway outside of that, she’s nervous at the church, but she’s also definitely going to follow orders, at this point while she’d love to be able to stand up and organize things, she knows she’s too disliked among these other kids to get anyone to even remotely follow her. here, in this new empty place, you need consensus, and she can’t get it and she knows as much so she keeps her mouth shut.
she remains forgotten in the background just as she always has been as days go by. she goes and does her shifts, she dances and sings on the little stage in her basement with her sister in the evenings when she can, trying to cheer the two of them (and whoever else that winds up living in their semi-decent sized family home) up. she’s just another member of the community, just, one who no one else really pays attention to. for the girl who’s always been determined to be a shining star, it hurts to be in a place where she’s got no way of going and following her dreams. college was her escape plan, and now it looks like that’s never going to happen.

ARC 02
the ingenue was sick of being taken for granted. she was sick of the torment she received from her peers, the cruel words and inappropriate drawings on bathroom stalls. even her glee teammates threatened to stick her in kurt’s basement, and they’d throw away the key too if they didn’t ‘need her’ for their competition. frankly being at mckinley was becoming hell. none of this behavior inspired good faith, and certainly not the camaraderie she aspired to. being mckinley’s rising star wasn’t working. glee was supposed to be her something special, and it just wasn’t, her so-called friends so often made her seemingly bulletproof self-esteem fall into the gutter.
when she gets the call from carmel high’s show choir recruiters, she at first thinks to turn it down, but that wouldn’t be in her nature. she knew she deserved to be somewhere where she could grow and be challenged, and she had long since noticed that mckinley high and mr. schuester’s new directions simply couldn’t give her any of that. she’s auditioned within a week of the call with her and her dads. given her book is quite large by this point in her life, carefully compiled cuts of different lengths and various compositions that showcase her voice, she’s able to impress vocal adrenaline’s coaching staff quite easily. not to mention they’ve been watching mckinley’s new star.
leaving mckinley is easier than it might be for many others. because yes, she’s got a few good memories here, but largely her high school experience here has been torturous. carmel values show choir; they will actually value her singing and dance abilities that she’s spent her whole life honing rather than ostracize her for her efforts. she knows this all, and it pushes her to go even more than the academic rigor and opportunity of the school ever will. she won’t be a social outcast any longer. the new directions see her at the music store with jesse st. james; they know she’s got her sights higher than what schue offers her, but they never thought she’d actually leave.
with locker cleaned out, the last sign of rachel berry is a gold star sticker they can’t seem to etch off of the underside of the piano’s lid. a ballad performed in the choir room can be heard ringing off the walls of an empty space. she isn’t the number one performer carmel has, but she’s still up towards the top of the pile. they have technical skill and focus on perfection, things she strives for and craves. she and her new friends and teammates go home exhausted every single day after hours of rehearsal, but with all the sweat and time on vocal rest comes satisfaction as she gets an opportunity to truly grow as a performer for once.
