very tired of the ‘Dick Grayson is mostly a pretty boy with bad puns, golden retriever vibes’ trope. Give me German Shepherd Dick. Give me the ‘consummate performer’ Dick. The one all, brilliance, bloody smiles and showmanship, the one with razor sharp wit and charm made weapon. Dick who seamlessly switches between a million personas. The one who doesn’t know what to do when the show’s over. Give me the Dick no one wants to be on the wrong side of because Nightwing might not start battles, but he finishes them. The only one whose threats the entire Batfam (including Bruce) takes seriously. The one fear toxins can’t affect because he’s been to hell and back.

The Dick who unlike Jason doesn’t even mention how much he’s been fucked up and survived. The one the Joker knew he couldn’t break.

I'm screaming again. He keeps going to call Dick "Robin" before switching to "Nightwing". You could interpret that as "he is used to work with Robin not Nightwing", but for me, it's "Dick may be all grown-up, but he will forever be his baby, his Robin. And rn, Bruce misses his babies, he misses his Robins, with Jason's death and Dick too far away".

my great burden as a talia stan who believes she’d still give damian mental health issues is when people assume i’m talking about her post-morrison character abusing him or telling him gay people burn in hell or sth when i think it’s more like. she and bruce are haloed figures in his mind and the thought of needing to live upto them keeps damian up at night wracked with shame and guilt. and to talia damian is her baby she gave away and failed to keep safe so she is also up at night wracked with shame and guilt. they’ll never talk openly about their issues ever <3

Sometimes I miss the early Dick and Damian dynamic so much like you are in your late twenties you've been through so much too young and now your dad is dead and you're worn out and grieving and here comes his larger than life youngest son dumped in your lap. You are fighting a deeply personal and grounded internal struggle and meanwhile your new little ten year old brother is a ninja with PhD level education who likes joyriding the batmobile. It's like a team up between baby Wile E Coyote and the world's most depressed Road Runner.

I think it's a combination of two kind of contradictory things, which is: 1. I love that they are not terribly impressed by one another and don't take each other too seriously and 2. I love that they are Abnormal about each other and devoted beyond all measure.

Like, one hand, 10-year-old Jon meets this weird intense older kid who introduces himself by kidnapping Jon and he's an assassin and super serious all the time and Jon is like "Lol. Lmao, even. Can I see your cow?" And Damian meets a half-alien demigod who is in at least one timeline prophesied to destroy the world and is like "Actually you're kind of a twerp. But yes you can see my cow." Like they meet each other on such a human level where mostly all they want to do is annoy each other and they accidentally become friends about it, and it's so charming. They see Jon and Damian, not a Kryptonian and the Son of the Bat.

But on the other hand, they are NOT NORMAL ABOUT EACH OTHER. They swear a solemn oath to Clark to protect each other!!! Like almost immediately!!! Jon is apparently just constantly monitoring Damian's heart for Reasons! He travels a thousand years into the future and immediately goes back and gets Damian because he thinks his friend will like it! He travels to another dimension and picks a fight with that universe's Batman over being mean to that universe's Damian, just because he killed Dick a little bit! Okay maybe it's mostly Jon who's Not Normal about Damian but to be fair, Damian is Not Normal about anything.

Anyway yeah, it's that combination of "just two buddies! WHO ARE OBSESSED WITH EACH OTHER" that I enjoy so much. And also height difference. (I am a Short Damian truther.)
