All the Lonely People, Where do they All Belong?
✿ summary: character study on the BAU and what happens after a tough case ✿ - ☽ a/n: this is angsty and trashy and I’m sorry ☾ - ☠︎ warnings: major character death // suicide ☠︎

By the time he got home Jack was already asleep. So was Haley. Putting his stuff away, Aaron Hotchner realized how much he’s missing out. His son is practically growing up without a father and the first thing he sees in the morning is the reminder that his father will never really be there. Hotch set his stuff down in his office before stepping into the shower.
Maybe the water will wash away the horrors of his mind.
—
By the time she got home Henry was already asleep. Not Will. He never fell asleep before she got home. Jennifer Jareau held her husband in her arms as she cried. It had been a tough case, but they all felt like this after a while. It’s what happens when you decide which life is worth saving and which one can wait every morning.
But you can never really save any of them, can you?
—
When Prentiss got home she was greeted by black fur walking on all fours. She picked up Sergio, brushing back his fur and placing a soft kiss on the space between his ears. She placed him back on the floor before moving to the cabinet in the kitchen that held his food. She passed by the mirror in the hallway, not even batting an eye. She knew the only thing looking back at her would be emptiness.
"If you stop being affected by things, you lose part of yourself." And if they never affected you in the first place? What will you lose then?
—
He locked the door behind him being slammed against it immediately. Kisses were trailed down his neck but he wasn’t paying attention. His mind kept going back to the case. They’d all forget eventually, they all still had a chance to move on. He didn’t. So he tried to distract himself the best way he could. After every bad case he’d seduce a random man and lure him back to his place.
Anything to replace the drug he longed for. Anyone could do the trick nowadays. Until the morning, that is...
—
Penelope was greeted by colorful paintings on her wall. She put on a movie on TV and some popcorn in the microwave. She stared as the plate moved in circles. She always compared people to the way popcorn pops. With just the right amount of heat for just the right amount of time every bit of corn pops. With just the right amount of pressure, everyone breaks.
She always wished she was one of those corns at the bottom of the paper bag that never popped.
—
It always hurt Derek more then anyone. He felt a need to play the protector role with everyone in his life, and when someone gets hurt he automatically feels guilty. It wasn’t anyone in the team, but it was someone that had stayed with them through the entire case. And when Derek looses people he loses himself. And when he loses himself he gets quiet - distant - at least until he moves on. After one too many losses, you get tired, don’t you? Tired of the pain... so does he.
He always secretly thought acts like these - razor to the wrist, body displayed in the bathtub - were selfish. He was tired of having to deal with the pain, he was tired of having to move on.
You have nothing to move on from if you’re not here anymore...

They discussed the case as they walked in, bickering about this and that, nothing an outsider would pay attention to. No, an outsider would pay attention to, even though they were throwing shade at each other, they stood way too close to one another. Hell, their hands brushed up against each other multiple times, and neither seemed to have realized— maybe this was far too normal for them to notice. That’s what an outsider would pay attention to. Not the words of annoyance they spat, but the movements of caring, protection even, that they subconsciously produced.
The pair entered the elevator, and after a few minutes the floor beneath them stuttered before stopping abruptly. They looked around curiously, wondering why they were no longer in motion.
“Why aren’t we moving?” Derek asked, as if Spencer had the answer.
“I don’t know...” he mumbled, jumping up and down slightly. Morgan started pressing the buttons while Reid complained and told him to stop.
“What, are you scared, Reid?” He teased the young man who just looked more annoyed. “What if I do this? Huh?” He pressed the buttons randomly, knowing he was getting a rise out of his colleague.
“No, I don’t want to be in an elevator with you, to be honest!” He spat back before the elevated moved again, and they held onto the walls. Derek started freaking out, blindly reaching over for Spencer’s hand, and the boy took it involuntarily. Spencer moved closer to Morgan, seeing how his friend was in clear distress. He placed a hand to Derek’s chest, and his attempt at soothing the other man had somewhat worked.
“Just breath, we’re gonna be ok, Der, just breath with me!” He started taking deep breaths, signaling for the other man to mimic, and he did. Spencer moved the hand on Morgan’s chest to cup his face, making the wandering head of the older man stop slowly, gazing into Spencer’s eyes. Derek was much calmer then he was, but he was still shaking, and he tried to keep in the tear that still managed to slide over his cheek. Spencer was quick to wipe it away before he pressed a soft tender kiss to Morgan’s lips, the latter calming completely.
Spencer moved his free hand to cup the other side of Derek’s face, smiling against his lips as he pulled away. They locked eyes once more, and Morgan swore there was the answer to any question hidden behind Spencer’s eyelids. The young man saw the fear fade away from Derek’s eyes quickly being replaced with something he hadn’t seen in the other man before, something he himself couldn’t really describe as anything else but home.
“See, you’re ok, we’re gonna be ok!” He said softly, and as if on cue, the elevator doors trembled open as the light from the window shined through, welcoming them back to the world outside their heads.

They stumbled up the stairs, reaching Spencer’s apartment in no time. Even though they were completely sober, they always liked to play around each other, almost childlike, as one would when intoxicated. Spencer unlocked their door as the agents made their way inside.
“You want anything, I’ve got.... two month old beer, room temperature water and a pack of apple juice boxes!” Spencer spoke, dropping their keys on the table and looking in the fridge. Derek tried not to look at the way his coworker had to bend down slightly, and how their pants were firm and tight, hugging every inch of skin around the younger profiler. “I probably have some tea around here somewhere too, and I’m sure we can make some hot chocolate if I can find the cocoa powder.” Spencer’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts and his eyes traveled up quickly to meet his gaze.
“Anything is fine!” He smiled as Ried pulled out two juice boxes from the back of the fridge.
“I can’t promise it’ll be good, but you did say anything, so...” Spencer offered a box for Morgan to take while they smirked at him. The agents made their way to Spencer’s living room, setting their beverages on the coffee table between the couch and the TV, and plotted themselves on the leather surface that sighed once it met their touch.
Lighthearted conversation flew between them of their new found discoveries about each other, seeking out information to get to know the other better. They didn’t see it as profiling when they assumed things in their head, and never bother to seek confirmation or denial. They saw it as... theories... thoughts about the other, harmless assumptions they’d make to themselves, and didn’t say out loud. There was far too much respect for that. And though they were currently drinking apple juice in the middle of the night while talking about their pasts, there was this mutual understanding of where the line was.
don’t. get. too. personal.
So they tried not to! And for as long as the night went, it became harder and harder. Personal to them didn’t mean the same as it did anyone else. It meant don’t say or ask about anything that could potentially trigger something bad. And whatever you do, remember: you are co-workers. You will have to go in tomorrow, work together, so don’t do anything you will regret.
Spencer repeated this to themselves like a mantra, but it only became more difficult to oblige as they involuntarily moved closer, and closer. And Derek was telling them a story about his first time, and how awkward it was, and the way he moved his lips, and—
“Spence?” Snapping fingers brought the genius out of their thoughts, forcing their eyes to look back up at Morgan’s. “You alright, pretty thing?” And they were gone again.
It wasn’t difficult for Spencer to zone out. But lately, Derek’s voice, Derek’s body, anything in the other agent made Reid want to run away from reality. And now? Now that they’re out, and though they knew he meant no harm when calling them “pretty boy” it never felt right. But that’s not they’re being called anymore, now is it? No... now it’s “pretty thing”. And sure, Spencer knew they weren’t a thing, but the fact that Morgan, they’re co-worker, is putting effort into their friendship, doing what he can to make sure Spencer is comfortable. Well that just brought out the best daydreams.
They leaned forward blindly, closing their eyes as they placed a kiss on Derek’s lips. And to their surprise it was reciprocated almost instantly. Spencer put their hands on Morgan’s shoulder, pushing him deeper into the couch as they moved to straddle his lap, never once breaking the kiss. Derek wrapped his arms around the doctor as he kissed them fiercely.
Fuck!
Spencer broke the kiss after what felt like ages, but took no time in lowering their lips to meet Morgan’s jaw.
“Wait wait wait,” Derek choked out between pants. They locked eyes for a moment before he spoke up again. “Are you sure want this, aren’t we... moving too fast?” He looked up at genius in his lap.
“Not for me, do you think so?” Spencer returned, furrowing their brows, mind between reality and what Derek’s neck would look like tomorrow if they kept this up. Derek just nodded, placing his kiss back on Reid’s as he began to wiggle out of the couch with the youngster in his arms.
Pushing Spencer on nearly every wall from their couch to their room, the young profiler couldn’t help but notice at how their paintings lifted off the wall slightly with the vibration of the force. How strong was he anyway? They tried not to give it much thought, and focus on how Derek was currently unbuttoning their shirt as he pressed Reid against the door of their room. The young adult also didn’t fail to notice how, with every blink, the room seemed so spin more as they got lost in sensation, and the walls seemed be growing further away as they got drunk on the intoxication that was Derek Morgan.

The cold air in the room ran down his neck and under the covers. It was freezing, and to top it all off with a cherry on top, he had to share a bed with his the man he was in love with.
I’m not sleeping with Reid! The words rang through his mind, taunting at his feelings, slowly draining him of any other thought. Of course, Hotch wasn’t going to let Morgan’s stubbornness get in the way with his meddling so that comment only made him want to put them together even more. He knew about Spencer’s crush, just like the rest of them, and yet, while the others simply settled for “they’ll get together eventually” Hotch and Garcia felt the need to speed that “eventually” along.
You see, Aaron Hotchner is a romantic. And if it weren’t for his high school friends meddling with his love life, him and Haley would’ve never gotten together, and he values that above everything. He values love above anything. So when he sees two people in excruciating heartache and too in over their heads to realize it’s not as unrequited as they think, he wants to help them out. So on more then one occasion, when it’s him booking rooms instead of JJ, the hotels and motels just so happens to not have enough room, and oh how unfortunate it is that they had to double up.
And though this time the lack of rooms wasn’t his doing, he was still going to find a way to meddle, even after Derek’s protest. “Don’t be such a pain, Derek, it’s just one night!” He’d dismissed it, and that’s how they ended up here. With the boys less then 3 feet apart, on a queen size bed, on a freezing hotel room in the middle of Alaska.
Neither were asleep, and they were well aware of it. Morgan knew Reid was awake because of his constant shuffling, and Spencer knew Derek was awake because of his uneven breathing, increased heartbeat, and he could practically hear the static radiating off of Morgan’s brain as the older agent stared at the ceiling.
Spencer kept moving, trying to warm up the bedsheets beneath him, but it didn’t work. He settled for waiting it out, but after a while the room seemed a little too dark for his taste. He stared at the closet next to the bed as he laid sideways, and his eyes could only slightly make out the doorknob for a few seconds before his vision blurred up and the room became too dark. He felt his heartbeat increase at the simple thought of an unsub breaking into their hotel, quieter than anything, and taking his friend away. He started fiddling with his hands subconsciously. He turned around to find that Morgan had closed his eyes, but all the sings pointed to him still being awake.
“Derek?” He whispered, getting a small hum in response. The boy mumbled something inaudible under his breath, and Morgan looked at him with furrowed brows.
“What?” He asked once the younger man hadn’t clarified.
“I- I’m sorry, I shouldn’t’ve asked-“ he stuttered around his words while turning back to his previous position.
“Pretty boy, I didn’t hear you!” He chuckled lightly at the misunderstanding, but his smile quickly faded at the scared look on the boy’s face that he could barely make out as Spencer turned back to face him.
“I uh... I asked if- if you could- you know what, don’t worry abut it-“ he tried playing it off, but Derek wasn’t gonna take no for an answer now.
“Reid, spit out!” He said firmly but soft enough for Spencer to know he meant no harm.
“Can you hold me?” He blurted out before he could stop himself, and Morgan wrapped his arms around Spencer’s waist just as fast. Reid rested his head on Morgan’s chest, wrapping his arms around the older profiler, and sighing in content.
After what seemed like hours of silence, neither had fallen asleep, and when Reid looked up at Morgan, he found him staring right back.
“Hi” he spoke under his breath. Morgan brought a hand to run between Spencer’s curls before responding.
“Hey...” the older man whispered. Spencer moved up slightly so his head rested right next to Derek’s, and he lifted himself up on one hand, looking directly down at the other agent. They stared at each other for so long that they got lost in the stars between their irises and pupils.
Spencer leaned down after what seemed like ages of toying with the hem of Morgan’s shirt, placing his hand flatly on his chest instead, and a chaste kiss to his lips. Morgan reciprocated it with just the same sentiment, reaching under the covers to drape Spencer’s leg across him so that the boy straddled his lap. The doctor moved his hand up to lift Derek’s chin slightly as he licked over his skin. Derek parted his lips slightly letting the young man in, while placing both his hands on Spencer’s hips. He felt as Spencer’s tongue ran over the roof of his mouth, before the boy backed away. They stared at each other again while they regained their breaths. Spencer’s vision started to blur out again after a while, and tears dared to appear in his eyes, as his terrorizing thoughts returned.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Derek asked worriedly. Spencer dropped his head beside, wrapping his arms around his neck him as they held each other tightly, and the boy cried into Derek’s skin.
“I don’t want to lose you!” He whispered between sniffs, as he squeezed tighter.
“You’re not going to lose me, pretty boy!” He responded, every bit of comfort in his voice projecting onto his movements as he ran one hand up and down Spencer’s tigh, and the other toyed with his curls.
“But it’s so dark... in here, and out there,” the boy sounded so broken, Derek’s worry grew with every second. “In my head...” the tears had stopped falling, and the sniffs had lowered their obnoxious volume to something more of a background noise.
Derek flipped them over so he laid on top of the young man, and he looked deep in his eyes for a moment, and found a sudden brush of color paint over the emptiness that had been brought up in the boy’s gaze. He smiled down, placing a pec to his lips before turning on the worm out lamp that rest on his beside table.
“Then I’ll keep the darkness away in any way I can!”

They’ve never been here. Not really. Sometimes in daydreams and fantasies, but that’s what they were. Just all in their head. Now, however, after some persuasion from the goddess among them, Penelope successfully dragged Reid out to the bar. And after a while Morgan drove them home. They were sober. Spencer wasn’t one for drinking, and Derek was the designated driver, so they both stayed sober while their friends released themselves of sobriety.
“What’s going on in that big ol’ brain of yours, pretty boy?” Derek looked over to Spencer as he pulled into the doctor’s driveway. “Everything alright up there?” He reached over, booping Spencer’s nose with the tip of his finger, while the youngster just stared ahead.
“Do you... do you believe in the two genders theory?” They asked, not once lifting their eyes off the building wall in front of the car. Morgan dropped his hand, taking Spencer’s into his own.
“Short answer?” He hearted, making the genius look over and shrug. Any answer, he read the expression on their face. “No.” He nodded, looking away for a second before looking back into Spencer’s eyes. “Actually, I’ve uh... been meaning to talk to someone about that...” he scoffed, avoiding his friends gaze once more, not being able to return to it this time, so instead, Morgan looked at where Spencer’s eyes had been previously fixated.
“Yeah, me- me too...” Spencer scoffed, as they poked holes on the side of their friend’s face with their eyes. “Derek I’m...” he trailed off, raising worry on the colleague that sat beside them, making him look back at Spencer again. “I’m non-binary...” they said voice barely audible, only slightly above a whisper. Derek squeezed their hand, giving them a warm smile and a nod. “I uhm... I use they-them, pronouns...” they kept going, a little less tense then before, but still nervous.
They didn’t have to worry, they were aware. But that didn’t stop them. Because what if Derek, though accepting of the possibility of someone not falling into boy/girl gender spectrum, might not be too eager to accept that someone being his friend. They looked over at Morgan to catch the end of what sounded like a happy sigh. They noticed the way Dereks eyes flickered between their own, from one to the other, while a smile broke out on his lips.
“I’m uh...” he hesitated, looking down at his free hand, before looking back up at his best friend’s eyes. “I’m genderfaun!” He watched as Spencer’s face lit up like a christmas tree. “I’d say 'you probably haven’t heard of it' but you’re kind of a genius, so...” he continued with a playfully mocking eye roll and a smirk as they both chuckled lightly. As their laughter died down a little, Derek took that opportunity to finish. “I uhm-“ he swallowed before he continued. “I use he-him and they-them, and though I’m more... mask presenting, occasionally I like to uhm... explore more of my androgynous side...” he kept pausing in between his sentence, trying his best to find the right words.
He looked over to find Spencer biting at the inside of their lip, trying to suppress a smile. The young doctor nodded at Derek as they both smiled. Morgan let out a puff of air he hadn’t realized he was holding, and loosened his grip on Spencer’s hand.
“We ok?” He asked, looking down lightly, trying to hide the slight blush that crept onto his face. “We’re ok, right?” He looked back up, remembering the dimly lit atmosphere hid his redness for him.
“Yeah...” Spencer breathed out, rubbing their thumb over Derek’s knuckles where the agents still held hands. “Yeah we’re all good!” The brightest smile was still shining bright on their face before they changed the conversation slightly. “Do you uhm... do you wanna come upstairs... for a little bit, maybe we could...” -they fiddled with Morgan’s base knuckles before continuing- “...talk... some more?”
Derek smiled at that, looking over at them fondly. “I’d love that, pretty thing!” Spencer looked over at him suddenly, a few butterflies flapping around in their stomach, as they gasped at the nickname change.
Though they’ve both been here in their heads, it wasn’t nearly as welcoming as right now. Feeling accepted and not as alone anymore, they knew they’d always have each other. Even if they weren’t ready for the rest of the world, they knew they’d always find love and acceptance in each other’s arms, and maybe, for now, that would be enough.

“Pretty boy! Whatcha doin’ tonight?” Morgan sat on Emily’s desk as he leaned over the divider to talk to his friend.
“Oh, I was going to re-watch this hour-long documentary on seahorses! I’d ask if you want to come, b-“ before Reid could finish his sentence, Morgan interrupted him.
“Sound good! I’ll be there at 8!” He spoke as he leaned off the table and moved towards his own desk. Spencer’s face lit up like a Christmas tree as he gasped.
“Really?!” He said with the brightest smile on his face as he frantically started packing his stuff. Morgan stared in adoration for a little bit before he started pacing his own belongings, but Reid spoke up again before he could say anything.
“You are going to love it! In my opinion, seahorses are one of the most fascinating creatures, and I re-watch that documentary every now and then, and even though I have it all memorized, it never ceases to amaze me!” Derek gave him a small smile, and the young man mumbled something about leaving now to get everything ready- including popcorn, earning a chuckle from Morgan. He was on his way out when he turned around and sprinted towards Derek’s arms, burying his face in the crook of his neck. Morgan hugged back immediately, furring his brows in confusion before he heard Reid’s muffled voice, barely above a whisper. “Thank you!”
<- —————— ->
It was about 7:50 when Morgan left his apartment, making his way over to his friend. He wore a tight black t-shirt, a grey hoodie, and some dark rifle green cargo pants to match. He made his way out the door and into his car, making sure to pass by the trusty coffee shop, getting him and his boy their favorite deserts. He knocked on the door once he reached it, and was met by Spencer’s shy smile on the other end. He stepped out of the way to let Derek in, beaming happily when he noticed the bag on his hand and sniffed, getting a whip of the pastries.
“You didn’t!” He locked the door as quickly as he could, trying not to waste any time, as Morgan just chuckled, kicking off his shoes to the side.
“Oh yes I did!” The smiles across each other’s face could make anyone wonder just how their cheeks weren’t hurting. Derek made his way around Spencer’s couch, but before he sat down, Reid stopped him.
“Oh no no no no no, we’re staying my room because the CD doesn’t work on the player here for some reason, and besides, I wanna be laying down, so...” he said, as he cooked his head towards his bedroom, disappearing behind the door, with Morgan following suit after.
There was a bowl of popcorn on the nightstand, and the bed was set on the corner of the room, a TV at its feet above a drawer cabinet that seem to be a couple hundred years old. There was this rustic design to Reid’s bedroom that didn’t seem to match the rest of his house, and though Morgan had come over may times, he’d never actually enter the boys room, despite the desire to do so. You see, Derek Morgan had a problem. One he’s had for about 8 years. This... problem... had evolved within the very first year of him knowing the boy.
He realized his problem the very first time Spencer got hurt. They were at some station in the middle of a case, when someone with a bomb around them decided to enter, their goal being to take out as many people as they could along with them selves. The team had all been injured, along with most of the officers at the station, but Derek could only think about Spencer. He realized then, his problem. This said problem being... he had feelings for the young man. He’s kept quiet for all this time, but there was something - a feeling in his gut - that told him he wouldn’t be able to keep this charade up for much longer.
“Are you gonna keep staring or do you wanna sit down?” Spencer mumbled with a smirk, looking at Derek through his lashes.
“Right, sorry...” he breathed out, taking off his sweatshirt and laying next Spencer. He’d completely forgotten the pies until he heard a slight hum come from beside him. He looked over to see Spencer biting into his pie, furrowing his brows in concentration, with a slight smile as he tasted the treat.
“You’re doing it again...” he said, turning his head to meet Morgan’s gaze, snapping the him out of his thoughts once more. Derek blinked rapidly, before chuckling. “Anything you wanna tell me?” The boy whispered, looking at the TV and away from Morgan.
“Yeah, actually...” he started, sitting cross-legged, facing the boy laying next to him. Spencer lifted himself upwards, holding his upper-body up on his elbows, looking at Morgan in curiosity. “When was...” Derek looked at him fondly before continuing. “When was the las time you washed your hair?” He smirked down that the boy, as he sat up to hit Morgan’s chest.
“Morgan! You scared me! I thought it was something important!” He kept hitting the older agent’s shoulder as they laughed. Morgan grabbed the controlled from Spencer’s nightstand, pausing the documentary they were no longer watching, and he shoved the boy off the bed, making him nearly fall before he was able to catch himself. “I can shower later!” He whined, but Derek wasn’t listening.
“Nah nah nah! You go wash that head of yours, I’m not gonna play with no greasy hair!” Spencer raised his brows at that, before scoffing, never once dropping his smile. He nodded slightly, smirking as Derek winked, before he grabbed the towel behind the door and disappeared into the bathroom. Derek watched as the boy walked away, eyes traveling all over.
Spencer stepped out about 10 minutes later, noticing Derek’s pie was gone, and there were a couple extra bite marks on his own that weren’t there before. He rocked a white t-shirt with a brown cardigan and grey sweatpants. Morgan moved the cardigan out of the way to read the letters on the shirt once Spencer reached the bed again, drying his head with a towel.
“Plain t-shirt” Derek whispered and chuckled as he read, poking Spencer’s side where the drawing of a paper plane was outlined on his shirt.
“Did you eat my pie?” Spencer asked, earning another laugh from the older agent. “Derek! You had your own!” He smacked Morgan’s chest as he complained, and Derek spun him around, sitting the boy on his lap.
“Shhhh, here”- he picked up the remote, and handed it to his friend -“watch the pretty seahorses!” He changed the topic as he started running his hand through Spencer’s hair, taking another bite out of the pie before handing it to him.
“Hey, I saw that!” The boy complained again, as an untrustworthy smile crept onto his face, and blush rose to his cheeks when Derek just smirked and placed a soft kiss to the young man’s cheek. “This conversation is not over!”
“Uhum!” Derek furrowed his brows and nodded, turning the boys face back to the TV in front of them, as he resumed interlocking his hand with Spencer’s hair. He made braids in the boy only to destroy them again once he got to the ends, and repeated this for almost half an hour. “Spence?” He whispered once he noticed how relax the boy was and how he swayed slightly from side to side. He placed a hand under the boy’s chin, turning it sideways as he peaked from behind him, startling Reid awake.
“Hm?” He asked, completely oblivious to the butterflies violently flapping their wings in Morgan’s stomach, some having the utter audacity to rise to his chest. “‘M sorry...” he mumbled softly closing his eyes again for a few moments, before opening them again, trying to brush it off as a long blink. “Tht’s weird, m’never happened before”- he mumbled again, rubbing his eyes as Derek stared in adoration once more. “I don’t usually fall asleep watching documentaries...” he said a little more clearly before a yawn.
“Don’t worry pretty boy, here,” Derek lifted Spencer so he could slide off the bed, grabbing the pretty paper that had come with their pies, and bawling it his fist. He laid Spencer backwards onto the mattress, before pausing the CD and somehow managing to remove the covers from under Spencer, draping them over him as the boy closed his eyes again. “I’ll be right back, ok?” Reid nodded against his pillow while Derek left the room.
The older agent returned to room a few moments later to find what it seemed like a fast-asleep-doctor-reid. He smiled at Spencer, letting his mind wander off again.
“You really got stop doing that...” Spencer’s voice rang through the quiet room, bringing Morgan back down from the clouds. Spencer patted the bed behind him, moving closer to the edge to give the older agent enough space. Derek raised is brows as he made his way to lay next to Spence. “‘M take off your pants” the boy sighed out, earning a confused look from his friend.
“Excuse me?” He took a step back, looking over the boy.
“Don’t want your dirty pants in ma’ bed!” He mumbled grumpily. “You’re not getting in here with pants on, so if you want cuddles you gotta take them off!” He raised his brows as he spoke, not once opening his eyes, yet sounding much more awake them before. Derek just chuckled at the boys attitude, trying his hardest not to read into this.
And he didn’t! He didn’t read into the situation until he was laying next the Spencer, and the boy sunk into his chest. He didn’t read into anything until Spencer turned around and was just a few inches away from Dereks face. The young man moved down a little, nuzzling his face onto Dereks chest, and placed one of his hands on Derek’s chest, draping the other one around his torso. It was impossible for Derek not to read into it. So he let his mind wander.
He wandered what it would be like if they did this every night, and the next morning when they woke up? Would Spencer be angry? He didn’t want to think about that, so he played into the fantasy where he didn’t. Instead he thought about waking up next to a sleeping Reid. And the thought was enough to send him away into his own dreams.
He woke up to the sound of a phone vibrating from under the pillow. Spencer was laying completely on top of him, with his head directly next Derek’s on the pillow, facing inwards where he breathed small puffs of air onto the older man’s cheek in his sleep. Morgan had a hand around the boys waist and the other draped to the side. He moved it to find the source of the frequency, answering the phone once his eyes had adjusted to the lighting from the window.
“Morgan!” He mumbled sleepily as a squeal came from the other end of the phone, loud enough to startle Spencer awake.
“What the fuck Derek?” The boy’s tone was annoyance, but a blush formed in his chest and made its way onto his face once he rose to his elbows and realized how close their faces were.
“Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!!!” They heard Penelope squeal through the phone interrupting their longing stare. “You know what, hotch wanted you here in 30 minutes, but you have an hour!” She said right before she hung up, not giving them any chance to explain themselves. When Morgan looked at the screen he realized he had Spencer’s phone in his hand, and he looked back at the boy above that was still staring down into Derek’s eyes.
“I- I’m sorry, Morgan, I don’t know what happened, I just- I- I’m sorry!” He stuttered as he lifted himself off the bed, and made his way into the bathroom before Derek could give him a response. Morgan closed his eyes and sighed out as he got up to put his pants back on.
“Hey Spence, I’m gonna... I’m gonna head out, I’ll meet you there, kid!” He spoke into the bathroom door, earning an ‘ok’ from the other side. As he was making his way out he heard the bathroom door open.
“Wait!” Spencer called out, making Derek turn around. “We have an hour so... um, I was thinking, maybe we could pass by that coffee shop and get something to eat?” He asked shyly, fiddling with his hands. Derek smiled at him, as he made his way to the couch.
“Sounds good! I’ll wait out here so you can uh”- he gestured his hands up and down Spencer’s body from across the room, making the boy look down.
“Right! Ok, give me five minutes! The remote is on top of the TV, if you wanna watch anything...” he whispered, making his way back into his room, coming out minutes later with a white button up, and a 3 pice suit with different shades of brown.
<- —————— ->
They sat at a table for two near the door, and Derek went up to the cashier while Spencer stayed behind, staring at the waving flag the was placed on the other side of the window. Derek came back a few moments later with their pies and coffees.
“Oh thank god! I’ve been dying to have one of these!” He said picking up the pie, taking a big bite out of it, making Morgan chuckle.
“Pretty boy, you had one last night!” He laughed as Spencer tried to explain with a mouthful. He furrowed his brows as he spoke, covering his lips, as Derek just laughed harder.
“Derek!” Was the only thing the other man could make out. Spencer’s fake-annoyed tone rang between them, along with muffled and incomprehensible explanations and, of course, the older man’s lovely laughter. The boy finally swallowed his food before he began “complaining” again.
“As I was saying,” He mocked, widening his eyes and shaking his head playfully, making Derek giggle - giggle! - as he kept up his fake-annoyed rant. “I wouldn’t be craving this if someone” - he emphasized -“hadn’t eaten like half of my pie yesterday!” He smirked, knowing damn well Derek was having the time of his life. The older man put a hand across his stomach, trying to calm down his laughter - it didn’t work.
“Alright, alright!” He threw his hands up in surrender, never dropping his smile, instead making Spencer smirk harder as he dug back into his breakfast. “I won’t eat your pie next time, I promise!” This earned him a skeptical look and a grin from the man in front of him, as he started on his own treat and beverage.
They finished pretty soon after, and rushed to work as fast as they could. They reached the bullpen about 45 minutes after Garcia’s call, and made their way into the briefing room.
“Why are you two so la- you know what, I don’t wanna know, just keep it professional at work!” Hotch told them from his place in the briefing room, and they shared a look. Before either one could explain themselves, however, Penelope winked at them, as she resumed where they’d left off.
Penelope Garcia, Derek thought to himself as they sat down, what have you done?

⊹ 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: Jennifer Jareau/Kate Callahan, Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid ⋆ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭: 946
⊹ 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: After a wrong assumption was made by Derek, he discovers his friend isn’t all she seems, leading them to form new relationships.
⊹ 𝐀/𝐍: AU where they don’t have husbands, and Derek tells JJ to shoot her shot! For the prompt: 6 ➺ “Maybe if you actually stop staring at her and talk to her, you might have a chance.” Also, Derek and JJ’s friendship is so underrated!!!
They’d just gotten back from a case, when Derek snuck up behind JJ. She was standing by the glass doors of the entrance to the bullpen, looking inside where Kate sat at Spencer’s desk, laughing at something the boy said. He snuck up behind her, placing a hand between JJ’s shoulder blades, startling the woman.
“Jesus, Derek, you can’t just sneak up on people like that, you scared the shit out of me!” She sighed out, looking at him for a moment, before turning her attention back to the pair in front of them. She gave a small smile as she placed her hand atop her chest, playing with the hem of her shirt.
“Maybe if you actually stop staring at him and talk to him, you might have a chance.” He told her, as he rubbed a small circle on her back, and she leaned into the touch.
“He’s not the one I’m staring at...” she responded, absentmindedly, only realizing her words after they’d already passed her lips. Derek stopped his movements, and raised an eyebrow at her. “Be... cause I wasn’t staring! I was just, uh... you know, looking ahead, not really thinking about anything, anyway, would you look at that, it’s getting late, I shou-“ her rambling was stopped by Derek’s amusing chuckle.
“Miss. Jennifer. Jareau! I didn’t peg you for the type!” He said with a smile, still chuckling lightly. She dropped her head, as he pulled her in for a hug. “Well, then, let me rephrase... Maybe if you actually stop staring at her and talk to her, you might have a chance!” He said, laughing slightly, as she scoffed and smiled upwards at him.
“Do you really think that?” She whispered lowly, resting her head on his chest, facing sideways so she could keep looking at the view in front of her. Kate looked upwards at her, making JJ suck in a breath when the brunette smiled through her lashes, before turning back to the conversation with the boy sitting at the desk below her. JJ let out the breath she was holding, only making Morgan smile more at the interaction. “You really think I could have a chance with her?”
“Oh, yeah! Definitely!” He chuckled as they pulled apart, placing a soft kiss at the top of her head before letting her go. “Now get out there, and go. get. your. lady!” She chuckled softly at that, and nodded, turning to open the glass doors before Derek grabbed her arm ever-so-slightly. “You know I love you, right?” He said to her fondly. “And this changes nothing?” She smiled at him, turning back around to hug him again. She wrapped her arms around him, nuzzling into his chest as he hugged back.
“I know!” She smiled, pulling away, and looking at him directly in the eyes. “Same goes for you!” She winked at him before walking away, heading towards Spencer’s desk. He chuckled shyly to himself, following after her.
“Hey you two!” JJ said as she approached his desk, Morgan standing by her side in a matter of moments. She looked at him for a few moments, and he nodded in confirmation. They’d been friends for so long that it was so easy to decipher what the other was thinking, and it came all too naturally to them. “We were thinking, we wanted to kno- we thoug-“ she stumbled around her words, but luckily Derek came to the rescue.
“Would you guys wanna go out with us? You know, like a double date?” He watched as JJ gave him a 'thank you' look, and Kate and Spencer looked at each other with wide eyes.
“Oh, no- we’re not-“ Reid started, pointing between him and Kate, but was stopped by Morgan’s hand being placed softly on his wavering one.
“That’s not what I meant, pretty boy...” he looked down at the boy fondly, as realization broke his expression. Kate bowed her head, looking at JJ though her lashes again, as she smiled, making the blonde blush furiously. She looked at Spencer as the boy's lips curled upwards and he took Derek’s hand in his own. He looked up at Kate and they nodded slightly at each other before he spoke up.
“Yeah, we’d love to!” He breathed out, as Derek let go of his hand to caress his face. Kate pulled away from where she was leaning on the desk, and stood closer to JJ, barely inches away from her face.
“Sounds great!” She smiled, as she stepped away to grab her coat. JJ closed her eyes as she let out the breath she didn’t know she was holding, before a long black coat was draped over her shoulders. She turned to see the older woman right behind her, and below her chin, she could feel the heartwarming smell of Kate’s jacket. Kate pressed a slight kiss to her cheek and a palm on her waist. “You ready?” JJ nodded, at her, smiling softly when Kate pulled back just enough to see her full face.
As they were getting their stuff to leave, and Morgan draped his arm around Spencer’s torso, the boy noticed Penelope and Rossi at the end of the room, slightly watching the interaction. Rossi rolled his eyes, pulling out his wallet and handing what Spencer could only assume was a 50 dollar bill, judging by the tones of pink at the end of the paper. He tried not to think about it as his attention got snatched away again by his friends, and soon to be boyfriend. And at that they walked out, to what they could only imagine to be the best night of their lives.

She was shot. Morgan could’ve been there, he could’ve prevented the situation. But no! He let her go on that stupid date, and now she’s hurt!
“This wouldn’t have happened if it were me, baby girl, I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!” He cried as he held her hand, making her shuffle awake. She rubbed his thumb before redirecting her hand to his face. He lifted his head, giving her a hopeful look, as she swiped her thumb under his eye, wiping away a tear that dared fall down.
“How about you make it up to me huh?” She said in a playful tone that earned a small chuckle from him.
“Ok!” He whispered under his breath. “It’s settled! When you get out of here, I’ll take you on the best date-“ he said, voice breaking harder at every word. “-one where you won’t get hurt!” He tried to sound playful, but she heard the amount hurt in his voice for it was still present. “I’m so sorry, baby girl, I promise this’ll never happen again!” He rested his head on the back of her hand where she held on to his own, and cried softly. They stayed silent for a while, and he zoned out long before she spoke up.
“Derek this isn’t on you!” She comforted him, rubbing at his thumb once again. “If anything, I should’ve listened to you! I mean, you told me I shouldn’t’ve gone on that date in the first place!” She tried to reassure him, even though she knew he wasn’t paying attention. Simply holding onto her hand for dear life.
After a while, she’d run out of things to say that would comfort him, and simply began telling him stories. She’d notice he’d fallen asleep, but she couldn’t just stay in silence, so she talked and talked until sleep came knocking at her door, and exhaustion overtook her. And so he slept, holding on tightly to her, knowing he’d be ready to fight anyone that so much dared to think of hurting her.

⊹ 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid ⋆ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭: 1492 ⋆ 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: Alcohol Use! (nothing violent though, this is pure fluff)
⊹ 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: Spencer finds out about the Dinosaurs In Love song, and he gets really soft over it. Cue a shit ton of fluff.
⊹ 𝐀/𝐍: I didn’t plan on posting this, but here you go! There’s a little bit of angst if you squint, but I’m sure it can be over looked by the fluff! (Also this the type of thing where if I hadn’t added a literal kiss scene I would’ve been like "cOuLd bE rEaD As pLaToNiC!1!1!")
Spencer sat on his motel bed, hugged to a half empty wine bottle, as he stared ahead singing mumbles under his breath.
“Pretty boy, you alright?” Derek sat at the end of the bed, and placed his hand on Spencer’s knee, bringing him out of his thoughts. Spencer sniffed, wiping away his tears, and nodded slightly.
“‘M fine,” He sighed. “I was just thinking about the dinosaur song.” He smiled, shyly when Derek grinned at him. He rubbed Spencer’s knee, and brought his other hand to the boy’s chin, making him look at up.
“You sure that’s all?” He gazed into Spencer’s eyes, deep enough to recognize he wasn’t, in fact, ok.
“I was just thinking...” a tear slipped down his face, as he looked anywhere but Derek’s eyes. “We’re the dinosaurs!” He scoffed with a sad smile.
“Ok, I think you, Mister,“ Derek started, getting up and removing the bottle from his hands. “Have had too much of this!” He wiggled the bottle in the air, placing it on the counter on the other side of the room, and he moved to lay next to Spencer.
“I mean think about it!” He tried to convince Derek as the older man pushed him back on the mattress, and lifting his leg so the heel of Spencer’s foot rested at Derek’s chest.
“I’d rather not,” he smiled, untying his shoe laces, and sliding the shoes off his feet, placing them in front of the nightstand before moving to Spencer’s go bag to find his pajamas.
Spencer sat back up right, staring at his mismatched socks. “Where did my shoes go?” He whispered under his breath, causing Derek to chuckle. “Anyway, just think about it!” He looked back up at Morgan, who was currently removing a white tee shirt, and a pair of black sweatpants from Spencer’s duffle bag.
“Ok, doctor, enlighten me!” He sighed, raising his brows sitting next to Spencer on the bed.
“What if-“ Spencer’s voice broke as he started sobbing uncontrollably. Derek furrowed his brows and stared, surprised at the way his mood changed in the matter of seconds. “What if one day our Big Bang-“
“Our Big Bang?”
“Comes, and- yes! You know like, like-“ he stuttered “like an unsub...” he whispered, sighing in frustrated. Derek nodded, whispering a small ‘ok’ before Spencer kept explaining. “What if our Big Bang comes, and I can’t say goodbye?” He leaned over, resting his head on Derek’s shoulder, as he cried.
“Ok, yeah, you are definitely drunk!” Derek said to no one in particular. He knew Spencer wasn’t too drunk so he’d remember this in the morning, but he still didn’t want to admit that the kid had made himself a really good point. He ran his hands up and down his back, as Spencer sobbed into his chest.
“C’mon, pretty boy,”-he started, lifting them up untill they were standing between the hotel beds-“get changed, at least, ok?” He said, softly. Wether Spencer would remember this or not, Derek still tried his best to take care of him. The young man nodded, taking the clothes that had once been forgotten on the bedside table, into the bathroom to change. He came out a little while later, rubbing his eye with his palm, stumbling and sleepily making his way to Derek’s bed.
“Pretty boy, what’re you doing?!” Derek said, automatically scooting over, and letting Spencer lay next to him. They stayed next to each other, with Derek’s back against the headboard, and Spencer’s head on the pillow beside him. Spencer looked up at him, causing the older man’s eyes to dart down to meet his.
“What?” Derek chuckled lightly, as Spencer stared fondly. He nodded 'no' against the fabric, and lifted his head so it rested on Derek’s lap. The older man ran a hand through the boy’s hair, as Spencer fell asleep, waking up a few hours later to a pair of strong arms wrapped around him.
He moved carefully, trying not to wake up whoever was next to him and turned to see Derek, pressed directly against him, holding him tightly in his arms. Spencer’s eyes went wide, as he tried to remove the pair of hands that interlocked behind his back. Once he was finally free, and off the bed, panic started to rise, and he stormed off to the bathroom. He came back out to see his best friend sprawled out on the bed, and he couldn’t help but stare for a while.
The golden lighting from the window matched perfectly with his dark skin. Spencer memorized this moment like it was the most important thing in the world. He memorized the way Derek’s back muscles fit perfectly on the white bedsheets, creating a beautiful contrast. He memorized the chirps from the birds that passed by the open window, and the way Derek breathed in his sleep. He sat on his bed, not taking his eyes off the older man even for a second.
Derek huffed and moved slightly, the soft sunlight hitting his eyes, giving him a morning kiss. He woke up with a heavy sigh and big smile as the memories from the previous night flowed back into his mind. He turned to find Spencer staring directly at him with the most mesmerizing softness to his expression.
“Good morning my little dinosaur!” He teased, snapping Spencer right out of his thoughts. They boy blushed lightly, bowing his head in hopes that Derek didn’t notice his rosy cheeks. “Like the view?” He chuckled, making Spencer smile a little. The young man might’ve been filled with embarrassment, but Derek always found a way to make him smile. It took a while for the previous comment to hit him, but once it did he was confused as ever.
“‘My little dinosaur?’” he questioned, making Derek chuckle, as he sat upright on his own bed, directly across from Spencer. The beds were close enough that their knees brushed up against each other, but not too close where it would make them uncomfortable.
“Dinosaurs eating people, dinosaurs in love...” Derek sang, and Spencer gasped, trying not to laugh as the events from yesterday slowly came back to him. He lowered his head, hiding his embarrassment in his hands, and Derek laughed. “C'mon, it was that bad!” He loved marking Spencer blush.
“Oh god!” Spencer’s laugher was muffled by his hands, but still audible. “I’m so sorry!” They laughed and smiled, and Derek made his way to sit next Spencer, bumping him in the arm as the boy died inside of embarrassment.
“Y’know...” Derek started once the laughter had died down, and mood had softened. “You did make... an interesting point...” he moved his hand to rest atop Spencer’s, and the other man took in his own, subconsciously, as they both stared down at the soft movements. “If... something ever happens, out in the field...” he darted his eyes to look up at Spencer’s, hoping he would mimic the movement, and he did. They looked at each other for a moment, and it was Derek’s turn to be overwhelmed by beauty.
He stared into hazel eyes, as the sun kept rising, lighting up the room, brightening it more and more by the second. He moved his free hand to where finger tips met Spencer’s jaw line as they stared at each other. “I need you to know...” he trailed off for a moment, as they moved closer and closer. “How much you mean to me...” Spencer nodded, tightening his grip on Morgan’s hand, leaning forward and pressing his lips to the other man’s. There weren’t fireworks, there weren’t sparks, there wasn’t anything special. It was just a kiss. A long, soft, the most chaste kiss of Derek's life, but still just a kiss, and the sun sparked golden shadows on their faces as they broke apart.
“Derek I-“ they pressed their foreheads together, as Morgan dropped his and to hold Spencer’s. “Nothing will happen to us, ok?” Spencer moved back just enough to look into Derek’s eyes. The older man nodded lightly and smiled, for what had he now to fear? Spencer dropped his head on the crock of Derek’s neck, and let go of his hand, pressing them to his chest, and pushing him back down on the bed. He moved to sit on top of his stomach, as Derek wrapped his arms around his waist, and Spencer rested his head on the older man’s shoulder.
It’s a quarter past 6, and they knew they didn’t have to go into work for another 2 or 3 hours, so held they each other in their arms. Spencer recited the song lowly, running his fingers over Dereks collarbones, while he thought of nothing in particular. Derek, on the other hand, couldn’t stop staring out the window, seeing the birds chirp and dance around one other, praying they’d never get their Big Bang, as he held Spencer tight, hoping the same for themselves.

⊹ 𝐀/𝐍: 🕊 requested by @everything-is-alrightt, for my 400 sleepover.
Underestimated, you are
And they mock all around
But as I watch from afar
They turn your smile to a frown
But they don’t know you
They’re just little shits
With no clue what to do
So close to losing it
They find it funny
We find it annoying
And it’s getting so old, oh honey
Do you even see what you’re doing?
Shit like this is so fucked up
But they probably already know that
They don’t give a shit about others
And they’re just whiny little brats
So to the hate anons, do me a favor, baby
And leave my friend the fuck alone
Cuz y’all’ve been so unoriginal lately
Before I have to go there, and break your bones 🥰
