She recovered from automail surgery in six months, a shorter time than the main character of the series, who previously held the record for shortest recovery period. She took on not one, not two, but THREE immortal beings and came out alive from every encounter. She cut off her own arm. She blew up a town in her first appearance. She blushed a lot. She cut off her own arm. She was the key to a more important character accomplishing his goal. She was arguably the most loyal character out of a giant cast of hyperloyal characters. OC: David Rica

Name: Jackson David Rica (usually goes by David, but uses ‘Jack’ and ‘J.D.’ as aliases)

Hydrokinesis - Rica has the ability to create, control and manipulate water in its various forms.

Regeneration - Rica’s body regenerates from any injury almost instantaneously. He can regrow limbs, mend wounds and even recover from being exploded. As long as a single cell of his body remains, he will eventually regenerate - although the worse the damage, the slower his regeneration will be. It’s unknown how his body decides which ‘part’ is Rica if he’s splint into multiple pieces, but he will never duplicate because of his regeneration.

Basic Backstory: David was born in Florida, near the border with Louisiana, and raised in an incredibly abusive home. His mother was a junkie and his father was a horrific prick. David ran away from home at the age of fourteen and two years later he lied about his age and joined the army. Given his abrasive personality and hatred of authority, he did poorly in the army - but his Hydrokinesis was discovered and he was taken by the CIA for... experiments and training as a Special Operations agent to deal with people with powers. During these experiments, his regenerative abilities were awakened and he was eventually subjected to tests to find the limit of his regeneration... which was exactly as fucked up as it sounds. Rica was left mentally unhinged by the experiments. He worked as a special agent for a secret government organization for years, chasing down people with powers and sending them off to secret prisons. Hating this job, Rica turned to crime to build himself a fortune so he could disappear - something he would eventually do. Over the years, he’s had many flings and romances and one-night-stands, some of which have resulted in children - Emmeline and Robin he didn’t even know existed. However, eventually he met a woman named Kanna Narroh who was every bit as fucked up as he was and she became somewhat of a twisted soul mate in Rica’s eyes. They had children (it varies on how many are his, but usually at least two, sometimes all three - Jason, Melanie and Laila who is always his) and he met a man doomed to be his rival and in some ways, he closest friend - Ethan Vire. Rica’s not sure if he should murder him or not. At some point he also became a cop, mostly to hide behind a badge and help him get away with his crimes easier.

Personality: Rica is smarmy and sarcastic, disrespectful, rude, crude and lewd - and always has a massive smile on his face. He can casually kill a strange like it was a thing to do. He sees very little value in most people’s lives - but when it comes to his family or his few friends, Rica will go to any length to help them. He’s disillusioned with society, hates the government and has no qualms doing the worst things imaginable.

He lives in New Orleans and often tells people that’s where he’s from because his family moved there when he was very young, but he was born in Florida, making him the legendary Florida Man.

Basic Backstory: Verity Solomon is the only daughter of an extremely wealthy couple. Her father was a business mogul who ran a massive tech company and her mother was a world-renown scientist with PhD’s in numerous fields. They believed they had invented a serum that would allow humans to learn much faster and easier than normal and unethically tested it on Verity as a child. The experiments left her able to learn incredibly fast, but when she had a college degree before she hit puberty, it left her incredibly socially isolated and lonely. Her parents died soon after and she inherited the company, their vast wealth and their secret laboratory... but left her alone. Verity decided she needed a new family and so she built three super-advanced androids - Valencia, Vespa and Vincent - and dubbed them her siblings.

Personality: Verity doesn’t really know how to get along with others, talks a lot and is literally a “know-it-all” because of how easily she learns. She can be a real handful, and sometimes comes across as a bit of a possible future supervillain - although Verity definitely isn’t one. She’s just not very in-touch with most other people beyond her robotic siblings.

Fun Facts: Verity dresses very unusual with a jacket she describes as a “Ringmaster’s coat!”, and she sometimes calls her house the ‘Circus of Science!’. She refuses to wear a normal lab coat because she likes to be unusual.

Verity did eventually meet fellow unusual genius Lara, whom she decided was going to be her friend.

She often falls asleep in her lab, but luckily her brother Vincent takes good care of her and always carries her back to her room - though sometimes she wakes up, jumps from his arms and scampers back to her science.

Intangibility - Robin can turn her body intangible, allowing her to move through walls or objects. She is able to extend this ability to clothing worn or objects carried.

Basic Backstory: Robin is the illegitimate daughter of a dangerous criminal named Rica, whom did not know she existed. Her mother was from Egypt, and the two only met once. Robin originally inherited a bit of her father’s regenerative powers, but was subjected to an experiment as a child that changed her powers into the most ghostly powers she now possesses. She’s ended up on her own, and eventually she became somewhat of a spy with her abilities.

Personality: Robin is sentient sarcasm masquerading as a human. Okay, in reality she uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism. She hasn’t had the best luck with family, and can be a bit of a loner - although she really doesn’t want to be, she just has a hard time trusting people. She’s very good at remaining calm and quiet, but if she feels comfortable she can get very loud.

Fun Facts: Robin’s mother was originally from Egypt, who briefly worked as a model in New Orleans where she met Robin’s father.

After learning just how bad her father is, Robin was inspired to do some good in the world and prove she’s not like him.

Thievery - “What? No, this can’t be your wallet, this is definitely mine.”

Basic Backstory: Leah always had a talent for alchemy, but she ran with the wrong crowd and ended up falling into a life of crime, largely due to an elf named Davin who caused her a lot of problems. She eventually cleaned up her act - mostly - and now works as a traveling alchemist.

Personality: Leah is bright and bubbly, very energetic and loves to crack jokes - usually at the expense of making other people uncomfortable. She can be a huge flirt as well. When angered, Leah will throw a bottle of liquid fire at you, or simply a bomb.

Fun Facts: Leah easily could have studied magic and become a wizard, but she enjoys messing with potions and chemicals more.

She has a brother named Lucas who is a world-renown detective and was able to get her out of some... legal issues... related to her past. She enjoys teasing him.

Transformations - Seiryu’s true form is that of a massive Eastern dragon, but can also take on human forms as she wishes. The human form she takes on is inspired by her current Avatar,

Basic Backstory: Seiryu is one of the Four Divine Dragons, the ultimate living incarnations of the elements. Like her sister, Ahri, Seiryu took pity on the mortals in the Eastern lands and helped to save the land during the Era of Darkness when Oni and Yokai ravaged the lands. She would occasionally choose and empower Human Avatars, giving them a bit of her power.

Personality: Seiryu is a brilliant, but stern goddess who rules over ice and water. She can be both as calm and gentle as a spring rain, or as cruel and bitter as a winter avalanche. She has very little patience for stupidity and despises cowardice. She’s not too interested in specific humans, but does want to protect them as a whole - although when she does find someone interesting, she will want to look into their lives, study them - and possibly even making them her new Avatar.

Fun Facts: Seiryu’s current avatar is Nanami Nomura, a powerful and dangerous shinobi whom Seiryu became interested in. Her current human form is based on Nanami’s physical body, although it is Seiryu and not Nanami.

Seiryu is one of four similar Divine Dragons, but each of the Dragons created a “Guardian” for the land of Kurosawa. While the other Dragons created independent Guardians, Seiryu simply created a copy of herself - it is that copy who is the Seiryu here. The true, full-powered Seiryu, is the full on Dragon Goddess.

Name: Parfait

Saiyan Physiology: As a Saiyan, Parfait is significantly stronger than a human and capable of rapidly growing in strength from training. She also becomes stronger every time she almost dies. She has a monkey-like tail, a never-ending appetite and transforms into a kaiju-sized monkey in the full moon.

Flight: Parfait can fly.

Ki: Parfait is trained in harnessing her inner life-force, or ‘Ki’, to allow her to fire energy blasts, fly and do other weird shit.

Talents: “I’m a Saiyan! I like to eat, I like to fight and I like to fuck, and I’m real good at all of ‘em! Better than some stupid fuckin’ cat, I’ll tell you that!”

Basic Backstory: Parfait is a Saiyan, although she never knew her parents. Like most saiyan children she was blasted off in a pod, which was found by a group of strange Bounty Hunters who followed a rigid code. They decided to keep her and raise her as their leader’s child. Parfait eventually learned she was a Saiyan, and has picked up some bits and pieces of her culture over the years and has become a proud warrior, although she still lives as a bounty hunter.

Personality: Parfait is dumb as a box of rocks and as polite as an angry bulldog. She loud, arrogant and loves to get into fights and will throw hands with minimal prompting. She is also highly food motivated. Extremely crude with her words and her actions, Parfait just doesn’t care. Unlike most Saiyans, she loves weapons as well.

Fun Facts: The bounty hunters who named her only knew that Saiyans were traditionally named after food, but didn’t realize it was usually vegetables, so he just named her Parfait.

Never let her pilot the starship. She doesn’t know how to fly one and would intentionally crash it.

She doesn’t know her Saiyan family, but often wonders what they were like.

She’s a character in a Starfinder game I’m in, and the party definitely doesn’t absolutely hate dealing with a Saiyan. Definitely.

Kitsune Magic: Athena is a kitsune and possessed several magical abilities from her magical tails. She can transform into a small fox, has the ability to create life-like illusions, and is especially skilled at the creation and manipulation of fire.

Nogitsune Magic: Due to some bad acts in the past and immense guilt over them, Athena became a Nogitsune. She gained a powerful control over the shadows and darkness.

Talents: Fencing, Survival Skills, Painting

Basic Backstory: Athena was the firstborn daughter of a tyrannical dictator who impersonated a god. For many years she stood at his side as his most faithful lieutenant and the commander of her 12 other siblings. She was eventually sent to suppress an uprising, but unknown to her the magical scroll her father gave her was essentially a massive bomb and when she activated it, she destroyed an entire city. Horrified by what she’d done, Athena cut off his tails, lost her power and fled from her homeland where she was eventually found half-dead in the snow by a tribe of Gnoll Vikings who took her in.

Personality: Athena is detached and quiet, living in constant guilt over the horrific things she did in her past and her help in establishing her father’s brutal empire. She rarely jokes or smiles, often remaining quiet.

Fun Facts: She became best friends with a gnoll named Sakura whom is the one who saved her life. She’s completely aware that Sakura has feelings for her, but Athena does not believe she deserves to let herself have too much happiness, so she pretends to be oblivious. (Wait, that’s not fun)

She was once an unbelievably powerful warrior and a eight-tailed kitsune, but she lost most of her powers when she cut off her tails in shame. She’s afraid to truly get that power back. (Also not fun)

She is a GM-controlled character in a Pathfinder game I run, and I was originally going to kill her off years ago to shock my players, but I got too attached to her and instead drastically increased her role in the story by retconning her to be the daughter of one of the main villains.

Basic Backstory: Moira is the oldest daughter of a strange couple, the Jacksons. Her mother was an angelic being from another realm of existence and her father was a criminal wizard, but they fell in love despite it. Moira inherited a powerful eye for magic from her father, but when her parents disappeared when she was in high school, she was forced to raise her younger brother, Connor. She eventually opened a coffee shop, given her love of coffee, and sells magically infused coffee. She’s become a very powerful spellcaster, able to twisted magic to her own whims. She also adores music and really likes to read.

Personality: Moira is highly sarcastic and very grumpy if approached when she doesn’t have her coffee. She’s fiercely independent, and doesn’t always get along well in a group. She cares deeply for her brother, although she finds him naive. She ran with a bad crowd in her youth and it caused her to become fairly distrusting of people.

Fun Facts: Moira adores music and in a modern setting with always have earbuds in. It helps her ignore people.

Moira is addicted to coffee, drinking an insane amount every day. If she doesn’t get her coffee, she’s going to be incredibly cranky and a bad time to be around.

One day, he disappeared without a trace and Olivia went off looking for him. She eventually became involved with a group trying to end the horrendous civil war in her nation, only to later discover that she was actually the long-lost daughter of the previous King, and her adopted father had been the assassin who killed him! She then discovered that the ‘Holy’ Sword that gave her father the ‘right to be King’ was actually a shame magical item created by a nefarious, shadowy cabal!

Personality: Olivia grew up without nearly any friends in a country ravaged by civil war. She has very poor social skills and prefers to be alone. She feels more comfortable in the outdoors, by herself, than she does with people.

Fun Facts: Olivia has a pet, a massive horse-sized wolf called Midnight.

Basic Backstory: The younger twin sister of Musashi and the baby of the three Miyamoto siblings, Misaki always had incredible Ki potential as a child. As the granddaughter of the Divine Stormdragon, she was taken into the tradition of being a Shinto Priestess and trained from a young age, keeping her away from her siblings most of the time. She takes her duties very seriously and is incredibly dedicated to helping people and to banishing evil. She was also trained in martial arts by the Priestesses, specifically in hitting pressure points to disable people without causing serious injury.

Personality: Misaki tends to be soft-spoken and very polite, befitting her station as both a princess and a priestess. She is always eager to help people, but has poor social interaction skills from her isolated childhood. She wants desperately to believe the best in everyone, but won’t hesitant to go after someone she finds doing wrong.

Fun Facts: Misaki loves the outdoors and exploring, specifically in forests and caves. She doesn’t do it often as it it “reflects poorly on her station” but she often sneaks away to do it when she can.

She dearly loves both of her siblings and is often the voice of reason when the three are together.

Basic Backstory: The oldest child of the Miyamoto Dynasty, she was raised with the assumption she would take the throne. As a child she was highly schooled, trained in diplomacy, politics, taught of the world, science, history and trained to defend herself. She grew dreadfully bored of this world of comfort and political intrigue and longed for the life of adventure her brother had. Eventually, she sneaked away from the palace to a tavern by the docks where she laughed, danced, flirted and eventually decided to run away and hitch a ride on a ship... but it was a pirate ship. When they discovered she was a princess, they tried to tie her up and ransom her, but she escaped and killed the Captain, becoming the new captain and setting off on a world of adventures. Eventually she met Lily Hawkins, a sane and stable redhead who helped keep her in line (somewhat) and fell in love. She also later tricked a Yokai and stole his powers, giving her the ability to control flames.

Personality: Haruka is crazy. She had a very sheltered childhood and adolescence, living in a palace under guard and being taught to be a prim and proper monarch - something she hated and rebelled against it. She embraces a hectic, out of control life, doing whatever the hell she wants whenever she wants. She steals, destroys things, starts fires and lives as a pirate - but Haruka isn’t evil. She takes pity on the innocent and the weak and only preys upon other pirates, shipping conglomerates and assholes. She has a strict code for her crew and only uses as much force as necessary.

Fun Facts: Haruka utterly took to the pirate lifestyle and loves to live on a ship. She uses her control of the wind to blow her ship’s sails.

Haruka LOVES explosions, a little too much. It’s very dangerous.

The Imperial Rings: Musashi is in possession of the Five Imperial Rings, forged from the scales of the Five Divine Dragons. Fire, Water, Air, Earth and Void - with the rings he can channel that element to a limited degree, he can also use the rings to enchant his swords. He’s best with the Air and Fire Rings, less talented with the Water Ring, and poor with the Earth Ring.

Magic Eyes: Musashi has the Eyes of the Dragon, piercing red eyes that allow him to perceive the flow of magic and manipulate it with his own energy.

Talents: Swordsmanship, Strategic Mind, Incredible Reflexes, Poetry, Encyclopedia Knowledge of Swords, Cooking

Basic Backstory: Musashi is the son of a powerful Emperor and the grandson of the Divine Stormdragon, but despite such a prestigious background he left home at a young age seeking adventure. He travels as a wandering Ronin, always dressed ostentatiously. Unlike his sisters, he has poor Ki Control and it was a struggle for him to learn to use his. Eventually, he returned home, stole the Imperial Dragon Katanas and the Imperial Rings, and set off to fight a rising tide of evil. He eventually falls in love with his best friend, Shiori, although before that he is utterly obsessed with girls.

Personality: Musashi is a goofball, who frequently seems like an absolute idiot - although he is actually fairly intelligent and just plays up his idiocy to throw people off. He loves to crack dirty jokes, and is always seeking adventure. He gets angry at injustice and hates cowards. Musashi firmly believes that wielding a sword is a promise and will chastise those who aren’t ready to use them. He frequently gets involved in other people’s problems trying to solve them.

Fun Facts: Musashi was forced to become a good cook because of all his time alone traveling and training, but he ended up really liking it.

Musashi composes haikus, but he’s not very good at them and often gets them wrong.

He should also have electricity powers, but after his uncle betrayed the family, his grandmother sealed them from the Miyamoto bloodline. It is possible for him to awaken them, but he hasn’t done so in most universes.

“Not So Fun” Fact: Musashi frequently gets injured, usually involving fire, and bleeds a lot, but somehow he always survives.

Pyrokinesis: Nanami also has a lesser secondary ability to create, control and manipulate fire. Not nearly as skilled as she is with ice, she can still do some impressive things with it.

Magic Eyes: Nanami has the ‘Eyes of the Dragon’ which allow her to perceive the flow of magic and manipulate it with her own energy.

Talents: Combat, Driving, Stealth, Sarcasm

Basic Backstory: Nanami was born into a clan of shinobi, her mother being their leader. She was raised from a very early age to be an assassin. Her childhood was cold and devoid of most fun, aside from her loving goofball of a big brother, Taichi - who tragically died freeing her from her mother’s grasp. Nanami grew up isolated and alone, but learned incredibly deadly skills.

Personality: Nanami can be quite cold and detached, and pursues her goals with ruthless zeal and absolute focus. She has poor people skills from her traumatic childhood and is bad at expressing herself. She tends to be quiet, although she has found a few close friends who mean the world to her. She has no qualms about doing whatever it takes to protect them, or to finish whatever job she’s on. Despite it all, she does truly try to make the world around her a better place, although her methods are often questionable.

Fun Facts: Nanami’s bracelets are made of an unbreakable magical stone, and when activated they channel her innate powers into the bracelets, making her super-humanly strong but preventing her from using her normal powers while active.

Nanami’s hairclip was a gift from her brother, something she constantly wears. She also typically wears yellow or gold because her brother loved sunflowers and used to bring them to her as a child.
