the sky was black and stars were littered across it as the two of you walked down the side of the road closer to your house.

“i had a good time tonight,” edward began “this was the first time in awhile where i’ve felt-“

“happy?” you interjected

“… normal.” he corrected. he knew you didn’t know about the creatures that go bump in the night and he certainly didn’t have plans to tell you.

it felt nice, it was just him and you doing whatever you guys wanted to. being young and in puppy love made the both of you want to be out, whether it’s edward watching you eat your food from the burger joint across from the movie theater or both of you walking through the woods for hours and just talking about everything.

“do you have any homework tonight?” you checked your phone for the time. 10:06. “what time will you get home?”

edward snickered at your worry. “i have my paper for english but its due next week.” he doesn’t like when you worry, “once i say goodbye i’ll be home in 15.”

“you live more than 5 miles away from me! how could you possibly manage that?” you asked.

“i’m a fast runner!” he laughed “seriously y/n i could be on a cross country team.”

“if you say so!” you smiled, noticing that you’re coming up towards your house you grab your key out of your purse and walk slightly slower so you have a few more seconds with edward. shuffling up the three stairs that lead to your front door you look up at him and your heart flutters. his face dimly lit, thanks to the light cascading down on him.

“thanks for taking me out tonight, it was really nice to get out of the house for a couple hours.” you stared at his face, your eyes moving from his eyes to his lips and back again.

“it was no problem, really. i like going out with you, you know?” he cracked another smile. “you make me feel alive.”

you love him but his humor really throws you off sometimes. you chuckle anyways and throw your arms around his waist as his hands run up and down your arms trying to keep you warm. edward looks down and kisses your forehead twice. after a couple more minutes of being wrapped up in each other you let go and take a half step back.

watching as he goes down your steps and starts walking to your lawn you call out, “goodnight edward, get home safe!” he turns nods his head once and calls back to you,

“i’ll text you when i get home dove!”

“text?” you whisper to yourself shaking your head. “call me!”

you wake up due to the strong aroma of coffee and esme gently whispering your name. opening your eyes you first notice her smile and then the way the sun dances in, making her glow. sitting up and smiling back at her, she sits on the bed and places a lavish tray on your lap. looking at the food she made you, you couldn’t help but feel your heart swell, four thick and dense pancakes sat on one another with maple syrup drizzled on top and a dollop of butter that was slowly soaking into the top pancake. next to the pancakes was a steaming mug filled with your coffee and a single dark red carnation. you lifted the tray off your lap and set it down on the empty side next to you and leaned forward, embracing your lover as you thank her.
